Except Apple is incapable of using an actually good graphics API. Why would you want to ruin Nintendo as a gaming brand?

And just like Apple, Nintendo went overboard focusing on simplicity instead of technology which is why the Wii U was such an enormous flop.
If you think the Wii U went "overboard on simplicity" with it's huge, awkward controller that is bigger than the Sega Genesis Nomad I had in the 90's, then I have a bridge to sell you.
Get over your hate-boner for Jony Ive.

I would happily pay the money, but the fact that a constant internet connection is required is a no-go. If I pay for it, I want to be able to play it offline.
I agree with you in part as I would like to play the game whenever and on whatever device I want as I've paid for it, but how often do we find ourselves offline on our mobile devices these days? But I do find the idea of being checked on to make sure my copy is legit a bit over the top as those who will eventually pirate it will find a way to stop the check-in thing.

I absolutely love the partnership of Apple and Nintendo. I always saw the parallels in their ideologies and it just seems like a no brainer to finally see them working on something together.

Can't wait to see more on the iOS versions of Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem! It'd be so cool to see Nintendo design a controller attachment for the iPhone as well (I can dream, right?). Both companies love to sell accessories, and the iPhone is sorely missing a high quality game pad attachment.

They are trying to prevent piracy, so this is why we can't have nice things. Surely people can just play something else when they don't have a connection.
That's not even slightly reasonable. "Just play something else"? For a game you paid $10 for so you could play it?

While offline would be nice, I think it's over-dramatic for someone to not purchase the game for that reason.
It's not "over-dramatic" at all, it's called having principles and putting your money where your mouth is. However, people saying they won't buy it because of this actually need to follow through and not buy it. Way too often people say one thing and then do the opposite. Probably will happen in this case as well, sadly.

We are finally getting a quality mobile game that isn't plagued with ripoff micro-transactions, we need to show the industry that there is a market for good games.
Abusing customers with always-online is still abusing customers.

how often do we find ourselves offline on our mobile devices these days?
About 90% of the time, seeing as my mobile devices are an iPod touch and a (wifi) iPad.

Simplicity would not require a constant internet connection to play. Sadly Nintendo and Apple of new have too much in common , the Nintendo wii U would be a product that Tim Cook would approve.

This came has a premium pricing , but it needs an offline mode. Poor user experience . Most of the time is use games as time fillers on the underground, this game is kinda useless even before launch, way to miss user exeperience testing Nintendo .

As somebody who has been on the developer program for longer than I care to remember, the first page of this thread is depressing reading.

Imagine having to pay for software ??:eek:

I'm happy to pay a developer £10, but if they ask for £10 and create a ***** user experience because they want paying customers to have a poor experience to prevent piracy for people who would never buy rhe game anyway......don't be shocked if I complain on here and decide or keep my £10. Hint for developers, don't make the user experience ****, while you think you are clever preventing piracy, it will be hacked, and you have lost lots of would be customers with something as silly as needing a constant data connection, when most users tend to play games while commuting these days, which means poor data connection, be it train or underground....way to miss a major use case cause of free. Nintendo is very very similar to Apple, and this is not simple....but I guess they can't force dongles on us...

They sure see eye to eye on living on their past and no longer innovating anything. Hey, maybe they'll re-release the Lisa with Super Mario ported to work with a one-button mouse and the keyboard for only $149.95.

I think this is a stupid game and Miyamoto said stupid things too.
There is nothing that can be compared between an American company and a Japanese one. In American companies creativity and freedom of thinking are very appretiated exspecially at Apple, where nobody has to worry too much about the hierarchical position when expressing himself. In Japanese companies you are just a robot who has to follow a strict algorith, and stupid useless meeting are counteless. This is the reason why working hours are double but productivity is much, much less compared to any western company.

In the UK we embody both, countless useless meetings in an 8 hour day !

this really. Its actually a decent and powerful system.

Nintendo's stagnation is lack of IP's really. And they don't have the clout to get exclusivity for 3rd party IP's.

At least exclusivity that drives say sony or M$ sales. Now I love splatoon, its one of the few rays of light on that console. I'd place it as one of the best and innovative FPS' of recent times even. Would I tell a person to buy WiiU just for that....no. Its the lack of follow up.

Vice say M$ where when you get that gears fix or desire to be the master chief take care of...you have a wide world of other things to do.

Sony gets its exclusives as well. And a wide world after to explore.

then we have Nintendo. Mario IP...beat to death. I respect the franchise for its history but its dated. Much better options out there for the genre's Nintendo does in house. Founders in some genres? Yes they are. those who followed can and are doing it better in some cases.

Link (of Zelda fame) their other IP they get blood from a stone on. New game will see how that breath of life goes. Not expecting much rush and buy Nintendo sales though tbh.

this...does not make stellar sales.

What also kills Nintendo is regionalization. So in this way simplicity is killing Nintendo so they are kind of correct here.

1 country 1 console. they are the last holdouts here. Most others could care less on your trip to say Tokyo if you bought a Japanese market game. All that Japanese writing is in the game lol...shown as a graphic like any symbol in the game. it means nothing to the console really. Or should not anyway.

Install and hope you can read or figure things out. Its not on the system to say nope in this day and age. this loses them money as lots of otaku's in the states would be down for throwing down cash for many Japanese market games.

I'm still kind of sad that a company with the imagination and talent of Nintendo, who have arguably produced the greatest games over the last thirty years is now forced to sell its software on Apple devices. It's a changing world.

Nintendo has fallen very far behind in the video game world. They still hold a nostalgic appeal which can be seen in the NES Classic they released recently and also in the the handheld world, but on a console level they are so far behind it's funny. Switching over to apps makes more sense for them than another console.

Only that Apple hasn't been focusing on simplicity for ages now. But, in all fairness, nobody has. All major platforms have grown to become usability nightmares.

The Nintendo Switch is architecturally more similar to iOS devices than any of the other consoles.. Will be interesting to see if this is partly a long term insurance plan so they can port Switch stuff over should that not succeed in the marketplace. I doubt it, but the control scheme on the switch is no different to a small tablet+standard controls, for a change.

I think Switch is going to do well though.. depends somewhat on price and how quickly they wind down the 3DS.

Apple and Nintendo do make sense as a partnership, I'd love to see a proper animal crossing on iOS, that'd be the perfect place for it.

It was important for us to be able to offer Super Mario Run in a way that parents would feel assured that they could buy the game and give it to their kids without having to worry about future transactions.

Super Mario Run will be free to download and try, but unlocking full gameplay will require users to pay $9.99. As was discovered last week, an always-on internet connection will be required for security purposes.

yeah. make sense!!

Should have been buy it for 9.99 and that's it from the start!

So, unlike a normal $9 iOS game that can be shared with my Family, this game requires an in-app purchase. Does that mean each person in my family that wants to play the full version will have to pay for it?

Do in-app purchases not transfer across devices that are connected via Family Sharing? Genuine question.

Seriously, just make an official Nintendo controller attachment for iPhone and iPad then add full Nintendo titles. Would sell like hotcakes.

I'd pay full £29.99 for a new Super Mario game for Apple TV. 8 worlds, 10 levels on each world, a ton of unlockable mini games (that also worked on iPhone?) - Bring it on!

Unlike other $9 apps, this one can't be played on the tube, in flight, or in areas without Internet connection.

Yeah, we really need watered down versions of Nintendo's tired old boring franchises. I'm sure they will make some money, but gaming has moved on. Nintendo are only on iOS because they are struggling.

However, give me Pilot Wings on iOS and all is forgiven.

That is my only issue with it.

Pay up front = easy share.

In-app payment:
* no sharing
* doesn't work if it is ever pulled from the App Store.

I have apps that include IAPs to unlock features and disable ads. I cannot disable ads anymore since the app was pulled.

wow. that really sucks for a company that claims to be user-friendly =/
