I would trade back my Samsung and wait for the iPhone 8 if I were you. At least I would not have to worry about my smartphone blowing up :)

Jokes aside, do what you feel is the best for you. Currently, you have a capable phone, that is for sure. I just have a soft spot for Apple iOS and am eagerly waiting for the iPhone 8.

S8 capabilities over existing iPhone 7...
Nothing on that list would make me change that I like native video and message which is important. 5 years of support and regular updates without the hassle of android and windows.

but if those features in your list are important, rock on. Apple and iOS is my preference. Apple goes well because it gives customers what they want and font need a spec sheet to sell their product.

5 years of crippling devices is Apple's "support".

FaceTime nor iMessage work with Windows which make them inferior to Skype and WhatsApp.

It seems you are in the minority of 1.3 billion devices whose are crippled. Since we're discussing anecdotes my 64 bit devices on iOS 10 and iOS 11 are running quite well this includes 2 iPhone 5s on iOS 11, iPhone 6,6s,6s+,7 in iOS 10.3.3. Those 5s are just speed demons on iOS 11. No crippling here.

FaceTime and iMessage are just better apps, which makes them superior to skype and whatsapp as both run on my Mac and both have no backdoors unlike skype.

At least post ios 11 with an iPhone 7. Posting with a 5 year old phone doesn't make any point period.

Nothing much has changed since then. iOS 11 may have fixed the browser extra lag to be inline with rest of UI. But general scrolling in iOS 11 UI is still slower than Android from years ago. You still need 2-3 times more swipes to scroll the same amount.

That's what I'm saying, you're out of touch with things outside of android. Assuming you have tried iOS 11, it's ui experience is just better and smoother than android, even in the s8 imo, and prefering slower or faster is subjective. However having said that iOS 11 beta has faster inertial scrolling than iOS 10.

I only need one reason to pick iPhone over Samsung - having an Apple Store 5 minute away to deal with any issues and questions I have with all my Apple products.

Until Samsung opens a store everywhere and starts selling computers with their own OS, they can't compare.

When I read this my first response was "Yes!" ... then I stopped and thought for a moment.
While I do use an iPhone, I have owned the Note 4, Note 5, and S6 Edge - when I think about it, I have had more quality problems with iPhones than Galaxy phones. Glad there was an Apple store near. For those times it can be a convenience.

There is no minority. Once Apple has you trapped on the latest version you have to put up with it like it or not

Take out your iPhone 5s put it up against a Moto G and do a basic speed test. It's absolutely embarrassing.

FaceTime and iMessage are just better apps, which makes them superior to skype and whatsapp as both run on my Mac and both have no backdoors unlike skype.
Can't evaluate them whether they are better or not since my computer doesn't support them in the first place.

Every corporation is in cahoots with the government. Difference is MS and Google are straightforward with their policies unlike Apple.

It can't be better than Android as it was ripped off from Android. If you use Chrome on iOS 10 or view Google AMP inertia scrolling has already been there.

This is why as cool as the s8+ looked when it debuted, coupled with the the fact I have a almost 3 year old 6+, I still decided to wait it out. When the iPhone 8 gets revealed I will make my decision then. Most likely I will stay with apple, but I will be pissed off if this shortage is true and I have to wait several weeks / months to get one. That is when I will just say screw it and go with Samsung.

Ditto, your take on UI experience of iOS 11 is better and smoother is also subjective.

It took apple years to catch up (or not). So all these years actually iPhone is the one that has more lag than any Android in this aspect.

If you think slower scrolling by design is lag, what is it that happens on android with the freezes, microstutters and other display anomalies?

So now inertial scrolling was ripped off from android? What did the iPhone 1 have then? And yes, it can be better.

There absolutely is and your posts prove it.

Take out your iPhone 5s put it up against a Moto G and do a basic speed test. It's absolutely embarrassing.
Embarrassing for the Moto I'm assuming. I think it's a fair comparison as long as the moto g is 64 bit.

Can't evaluate them whether they are better or not since my computer doesn't support them in the first place.

Every corporation is in cahoots with the government. Difference is MS and Google are straightforward with their policies unlike Apple.
Mine does and iMessage and FaceTime are the best for me.

Difference is Microsoft and google have this stuff buried in the fine print. Once you can find the info its clear They Are open about their policies; unlike Apple which sprinkles links to privacy and security liberally.

So now inertial scrolling was ripped off from android? What did the iPhone 1 have then? And yes, it can be better.
Does iPhone 1 have smooth scroll like Android?

There absolutely is and your posts prove it.
There is no minority as everyone is on the same hardware. The variable is the user. Can you put up with it or cant yo?

My iPhone 6 is taking the same time as a Moto G 2016 to open Spotify,Uber,Chrome, subway surfers

They are not multi platform which makes them inferior

You mean Apple misleads users. Where are all these ads in the App Store coming from?

Does iPhone 1 have smooth scroll like Android?
Not sure did android 1.0 have a smooth scroll? I dont know.

There is no minority as everyone is on the same hardware. The variable is the user. Can you put up with it or cant yo?
Not true at all. There is a very definable
minority of people who complain the loudest or even inconsistently.

My iPhone 6 is taking the same time as a Moto G 2016 to open Spotify,Uber,Chrome, subway surfers
Okay and that proves what anecdotally for you? That you can't tell the difference?

They are not multi platform which makes them inferior
The software is better which makes them superior.

You mean Apple misleads users. Where are all these ads in the App Store coming from?
They are random; everyone gets ads.

Why did you go back? just curious

The S8 just didn't last the day for me compared to the iPhone 7. The S8 Plus was great in terms of battery life but it was too long and I decided to sell it and get the S8. But, the S8 just didn't measure up in terms of battery life so back to the iPhone 7 until the 8 comes out.

There is a definable minority who speaks out against this rigging which Apple does in iOS

Okay and that proves what anecdotally for you? That you can't tell the difference?
It proves that a $600 phone's performance equals the performance of a cereal box phone after just 3 yars

The software is better which makes them superior.
The question of superior software only arises when you can run it in the first place and Facetime does not work with 90% of the planet's computing equipment

They are random; everyone gets ads.
Apple keeps google as default search.
Apple shows ads in the App Store
Apple has also given info regarding KAT torrents ot the govt on demand.

Apple is no different than the other 2 companies except for a reality distrotion field

No iPhone has smooth scrolling like Android
I guess you call Android smooth when you get used to the glitches, artifacts, microstutters and lag that's continually being report across the internet.

Right the keyword minority, most don't have issues. With 1.2 billion devices out there, all sorts of oddball things happen causing anecdotal issues.

It proves that a $600 phone's performance equals the performance of a cereal box phone after just 3 yars
Maybe your cereal box, but as I said, most don't seem to have issues in the real world.

The question of superior software only arises when you can run it in the first place and Facetime does not work with 90% of the planet's computing equipment
Facetime works with 100% of IOS devices and does not need an install. That is why it's superior. If you are on android and have whatsapp and your friend has hangouts and neither wants to install any other video software, video calling works 0% of the time. To me that's inferior.

Apple keeps google as default search.
Sure google pays them, why not. My default search is duckduckto.

Apple shows ads in the App Store
Random ads, because they certainly aren't relevant to me. That's how I know they are random.

Apple has also given info regarding KAT torrents ot the govt on demand.
On demand, means court order or if their infrastructure is being used for illegal purposes and apple is legally obliged to turn over the info, just like FB, just like google, just like any other company. Does apple give the government they keys to your imessage encryption?

Apple is no different than the other 2 companies except for a reality distrotion field
The are two types of people: The first type are those people who keep believing the world is under this very popular meme and anybody that buys an apple is under the apple influence. The second type of people are those who like the products apple makes and wonder if the first type of person is looney tunes.

I am returning my S8 and getting an iPhone SE until the iPhone 8 is available. I love the S8 display, but I feel I can wait a few months.

Do you really want me to pull out similar links for the iPhone 7?

By the way, that link invovles Samsung's launcher which is easily replaceable with Nova Launcher

Right the keyword minority, most don't have issues. With 1.2 billion devices out there, all sorts of oddball things happen causing anecdotal issues.
I said the minority speak out agaist this crap. The majority just try to deal with the issues anyway anyhow

Maybe your cereal box, but as I said, most don't seem to have issues in the real world.
This is the real world where an iPhone 6 IS LOSING to a $180 phone.Planned obsolescence slider dialled up to 11

If you are on iOS which has a market share of 44% and the other guy is on Android which is on 50 plus than you can't communicate without installing third party apps. Worldwide its a steamroll as iOS is nowhere close ot Android in marketshare so the chances of you interacting with a person using Android is a virtual certainty

Sure google pays them, why not. My default search is duckduckto.
So Apple dont mind their customers being the "product" as long as they get paid?

Random ads, because they certainly aren't relevant to me. That's how I know they are random.
Download enough apps from the store and the ad suggestions are fro mthe same category I usually download from

Yes they do. The govt has keys to everything in your phone. Its delusional marketing to think otherwise

You can belong to any category but the facts remain that Apple's products aren't any more unique than the Android competition

However you feel it necessary to respond. Iphone 7 on 10.3.3 is smooth as silk.

I said the minority speak out agaist this crap. The majority just try to deal with the issues anyway anyhow
You don't know anything about the majority. All you know is what a internet search reveals, or based on your personal experience or your associates/friends experience.

This is the real world where an iPhone 6 IS LOSING to a $180 phone.Planned obsolescence slider dialled up to 11
Of course, it is, when a 2014 phone is compare to a 2017 phone. Next year is the last year of support for the iphone 6; 5 years. The g5 will cease to have updates in 2 years. However, there is no doubt comparing the latest iphone with that phone or even the 6s, would be quite different. In the car world a 1960 Ferrari would probably be schooled at the track by the latest Civic-R. Same type of analogy.

If you are on iOS which has a market share of 44% and the other guy is on Android which is on 50 plus than you can't communicate without installing third party apps. That's a problem with Android fragmentation, not ios. All ios comes standard with the same software.

So Apple dont mind their customers being the "product" as long as they get paid?
They are much less a product than google. That is why google is back-peddling on some of it's recent policy decisions. Apple has nothing to back-pedal about.

Download enough apps from the store and the ad suggestions are fro mthe same category I usually download from
I haven't seen that happen. Maybe you are just winning the luck of the dice.

And yet they raised such a fuss when it came to unlocking a terrorist's 5C
Completely different. They don't want to be forced to hack their own hardware and software.

Yes they do. The govt has keys to everything in your phone. Its delusional marketing to think otherwise
Prove it.

You can belong to any category but the facts remain that Apple's products aren't any more unique than the Android competition

So why is no one complaining?

1.They dont notice it
2.They notice it but bear with it

Of course, it is, when a 2014 phone is compare to a 2017 phone. Next year is the last year of support for the iphone 6; 5 years.
Wrong. Next year the iPhone 6 is 4 years old.Last year of support is 2019

The g5 will cease to have updates in 2 years. However, there is no doubt comparing the latest iphone with that phone or even the 6s, would be quite different.
This is a $800 phone being destroyed by a $180 phone in 3 years. The iPhone 8 is costing over 1k. Are you suggesting its perfectly normal for a $100 phone to beat a $1000 phone and that too badly, after 3 years?

That's a problem with Android fragmentation, not ios. All ios comes standard with the same software.
What does Android fragmentation have to do with this?Everyone on the latest Android will get Allo and Duo preinstalled and almost everyone on Android uses WhatsApp which can be regarded as good as a native solution.

However my point is that worldwide you are a part of the 14% using iOS which means 86% of the time Facetime is useless

They are much less a product than google. That is why google is back-peddling on some of it's recent policy decisions. Apple has nothing to back-pedal about.
If Google is the default search, they are minting money on Apple's platform making Apple's customers their product

I haven't seen that happen. Maybe you are just winning the luck of the dice.
Its happening

Completely different. They don't want to be forced to hack their own hardware and software.
You said they dont want their iinfrastructure used for illegal purposes and here we have a terrorist in possession of Apple's hardware and they didnt cooperate.

In the era of Snowden and WikiLeaks and that massive dump of vulnerabilties on iOS and Windows and Android which leaked a couple of months ago ,you really wwant me to prove it?

The safest place for my data is my encrypted external HDD.

You can keep thinking that incorrectly, of course, it's your opinion. Where do you fit in?

Tell me one unique aspect about the iPhone which isnt on the S8 excluding iOS itself.

Isn't there something closer to 10.3.3 and not a year ago?

Is everyone on the same hardware?Yes
Is everyone's phone the same? No. Are there apps like facebook that are known to be problematic? YES.

Yes, some people see things that aren't there. That's been proven in countless past threads.

1.They dont notice it
2.They notice it but bear with it
Or, it's not there.

Wrong. Next year the iPhone 6 is 4 years old.Last year of support is 2019

This is a $800 phone being destroyed by a $180 phone in 3 years. The iPhone 8 is costing over 1k. Are you suggesting its perfectly normal for a $100 phone to beat a $1000 phone and that too badly, after 3 years?
Wrong, iphone 6 came out in 2014 and you are comparing exponential advances in mobile phone solutions across three years. It's like the 6s destroying most of the current crop of phones and that is a generation behind.

This is not an ios issue, plain and simple. I have no issues with other iphone users, no software to install or configure. The only thing needed is an email or mobile phone number. That is why this is an android issue. Whatsapp is no native solution.
If Google is the default search, they are minting money on Apple's platform making Apple's customers their product
Sure google is paying apple for that, nothing wrong with that. But you are still the product to google. No way to wiggle out of it.

Its happening
I haven't seen it, you are just winning the unluck roll of the dice.

You said they dont want their iinfrastructure used for illegal purposes and here we have a terrorist in possession of Apple's hardware and they didnt cooperate.
First it's a terrorist. Then a speeder, then a jaywalker. You are missing the point completely in attempting to be self-righteous.

In the era of Snowden and WikiLeaks and that massive dump of vulnerabilties on iOS and Windows and Android which leaked a couple of months ago ,you really wwant me to prove it?

Yes you should prove your blanket statement.

Tell me one unique aspect about the iPhone which isnt on the S8 excluding iOS itself.
Nothing like moving the goal posts from Android to the S8. Two easy ones, facetime and imessage. But the post seems like spec sheet mentality.

Okay
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8028815?start=0&tstart=0

Even freezes
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7966752?start=0&tstart=0

This a very popular misconception that iOS is smoother than Android which in fact it isnt. They both are the same, maybe iOS is a little bit smoother. However due to Android's goolge play services update method, Androids dont slow down over time while iOS devices do so Android wins in the long term

Is everyone's phone the same? No. Are there apps like facebook that are known to be problematic? YES.
Yes its the exact same hardware with everyone.I am talking about lag on a clean install. No external conditions involved.

Yes, some people see things that aren't there. That's been proven in countless past threads.
They are there to the extent that a phone like the iPhone 6 now competes with a Moto G. Everything is there. The only question is whether to deal with it or moan about it?

Wrong, iphone 6 came out in 2014
You said it would be 5 years old next year which is false

and you are comparing exponential advances in mobile phone solutions across three years. It's like the 6s destroying most of the current crop of phones and that is a generation behind.
Nonsense.A high end PC from 2014 would still demolish the current budget PCs on the market. The same goes for tablets

This is not an ios issue, plain and simple. I have no issues with other iphone users, no software to install or configure. The only thing needed is an email or mobile phone number. That is why this is an android issue. Whatsapp is no native solution.
Android and Windows are iOS issues.None of iOS's apps work with the world's most prevalent softwares which make them inferior.WhatsApp is installed on every Android as thats the only way to communicate on Android as Allo and Duo dont have widespread adoption so far.

If Google is the default search, they are minting money on Apple's platform making Apple's customers their product
Sure google is paying apple for that, nothing wrong with that. But you are still the product to google. No way to wiggle out of it.
So if Apple is paid, its fine and dandy to do whatever you want on Apple's platform?

Yes you should prove your blanket statement.
Its already been proven with that massive batch of vulnerabilities which leaked months ago. And those were just the leaked ones. There may be tons more which are with the authoritires

Nothing like moving the goal posts from Android to the S8. Two easy ones, facetime and imessage. But the post seems like spec sheet mentality.

I brought in the S8 because its currently the most innovative phone on Android and for all intents and purposes Samsung=Android. If Samsung goes, Android goes with it.

FaceTime and iMessage have equivalents in the form of Skpe,Allo,Duo,WhatsApp etc. Does iPhone have unique features like iris scanner,OLED displays, edge displays etc?

iOS 10.3.3 please. Now you are just grasping at a straw man argument. Android seems to roll over with age based on the internet.

Yes its the exact same hardware with everyone.I am talking about lag on a clean install. No external conditions involved.
It was a rhetorical question for you. Badly written apps/programs can bring down any computer.

They are there to the extent that a phone like the iPhone 6 now competes with a Moto G. Everything is there. The only question is whether to deal with it or moan about it?
Doesn't change that people see things that aren't there. But still you are comparing phones from different silicon generations, compare a 7 against the G5.

You said it would be 5 years old next year which is false
No it's true, 14, 15, 16, 16, 18.

Nonsense.A high end PC from 2014 would still demolish the current budget PCs on the market. The same goes for tablets
What nonsense. A high end pc from 2004 would lise handily to a budget pc of today.

Android and Windows are iOS issues.None of iOS's apps work with the world's most prevalent softwares which make them inferior.WhatsApp is installed on every Android as thats the only way to communicate on Android as Allo and Duo dont have widespread adoption so far.
No issues for me at all and I suspect most iOS users. Cross platform is problematic due to android fragmention. All iOS versions since 6 support FaceTime and iMessage.

So if Apple is paid, its fine and dandy to do whatever you want on Apple's platform?
But that's not the case. Google pays Apple for you to be googles product. Apple doesn't pay google for you to be apples product.

FYI, the KAT owner wasn't even using Apple's infrastructure for illegal purposes. Apple gave info regarding his location through an iTunes transaction.
So what? Apple has to comply with existing regulations, same as Facebook, google and Amazon. They do not have to comply with whim requests to hack their own devices.

Its already been proven with that massive batch of vulnerabilities which leaked months ago. And those were just the leaked ones. There may be tons more which are with the authoritires
Moving goalposts. Now vulnerabilities are the same as embedded back doors?

I brought in the S8 because its currently the most innovative phone on Android and for all intents and purposes Samsung=Android. If Samsung goes, Android goes with it.

FaceTime and iMessage have equivalents in the form of Skpe,Allo,Duo,WhatsApp etc. Does iPhone have unique features like iris scanner,OLED displays, edge displays etc?
You are still moving goal posts by talking about android then shifting to a specif C model. Android will survive without Samsung just fine.

Thankfully the iPhone doesn't have oled or edge displays and look like a generic slab. Does the s8 have a custom designed soc?

You just proved my point about video and messaging.

iOS 10.3.3 please. Now you are just grasping at a straw man argument.
The first link is iOS 10.3.3. The second is 10.3.2 which is no biggie as 10.3.3 was just a minor bug fix update

Android seems to roll over with age based on the internet.
Nothing but an Internet meme which has already been disproven

It was a rhetorical question for you. Badly written apps/programs can bring down any computer.
It cant bring down iOS as each app operates in its own silo unlike Windows or Mac

Doesn't change that people see things that aren't there. But still you are comparing phones from different silicon generations, compare a 7 against the G5.
So let me get this straight. If I shell out 1.2k for an iPhone 8 its perfectly normal for it to lose to a $100 phone in 3 years?

No it's true, 14, 15, 16, 16, 18.
At least get your numbers right.

Sept 2014-Sept 2015 1st year
Sept 2015-Sept 2016 2nd year
Sept 2016-Sept 2017 3rd year
Sept 2017-Sept 2018-4 years

What nonsense. A high end pc from 2004 would lise handily to a budget pc of today.
I am comparing a 3 year old phone not a Nokia 3310 so logic suggests you should compare a 3 year old computer to today's budget computers

No issues for me at all and I suspect most iOS users. Cross platform is problematic due to android fragmention. All iOS versions since 6 support FaceTime and iMessage.
There is no problem on Android as Skype,WhatsApp,Allo,Duo work on all computers and cross platform

Does Facetime sync with Windows? If not its useless

But that's not the case. Google pays Apple for you to be googles product. Apple doesn't pay google for you to be apples product.
Apple accepted payment and allowed their customer's to be Google's product. This doesnt bother you?

So if the govt asks for an key to iMessage communications,Apple will be forced to hand it over. And this is not something which will be disclosed to the public.

Moving goalposts. Now vulnerabilities are the same as embedded back doors?

Do you really think if there are any backdoors Apple or the authorities will tell them to the public? This is nothing but marketing

You are still moving goal posts by talking about android then shifting to a specif C model. Android will survive without Samsung just fine.
Thats because the S8 is the only relevant flagship on Android. Without Samsung there goes 80% of Android and the entirety of Android's profits.

Thankfully the iPhone doesn't have oled or edge displays and look like a generic slab.

iPhone 8 with an OLED edge display and no bezels (generic slab)

iphone-8-screen-protector.jpg

Does the s8 have a custom designed soc?
The S8 loses to the iPhone in performance tests if thats what you are implying but the OnePlus already beat the iPhone in performance

You just proved my point about video and messaging.
What I proved is that its not a USP. Facetime and iMessage dont work with Windows or Android which makes them more of a liability than a unique feature
