Sketchy Rumor Claims 'iPhone SE 2' Could Feature a Glass Back and Support Wireless Charging

I'm guessing you don't own an iPhone X? And if you do, does the notch actually bug you when using it? Most of the notch hate seems to be from people who don't even own an X and just think they'd hate it
That only makes sense if having a notch is preferable to not having a notch.

Mature people can learn some things from inference. Less experienced/mature people learn those same things from first-hand experience. Other things can only be learned from first-hand experience. This is not an insult, but an observation.

Tell a child not to put their hand on a lit stove. They may or may not listen... but if they don't listen, they'll get burned and know that for the future...based on their first-hand experience.

Not everyone needs to buy an iPhone X, and use it for weeks to determine whether or not the notch is an issue for them. Inference and experience with other devices can be used to determine whether or not the notch will be a problem.

The odd thing about this rumor is the original SE was designed to have less features given its lower price, and so the SE2 having the latest features doesn't really jive. Space inside the small form factor is at a premium and I'd rather see them add other things, like force touch instead of wireless charging

Totally agree with this, although a redesign would be nice, 3D Touch would be much better then wireless charging! Because that’s an interface feature and the SE is the only device on sale by Apple that lacks it now.

Although my new iPhone 8 will turn up today, if Apple stick to the throttling I may switch down to the SE V2 especially if it gets a good camera upgrade with OIS!
Definitely interested to see what they make here..

But if they keep the terrible display contrast why bother? The biggest downfall is the SE's display and I'm not talking about size.

I agree. The SE, for me, doesn’t need much to make me upgrade my current model, but a more colourful display would go a long way. Wireless charging and an improved camera (even just the iPhone 7 camera) would be ideal. 3D Touch would be nice.

If they upgrade the camera (almost certainly a given), I assume they’d have to upgrade the screen to wide colour so that you can view the wide colour-captured photos you’ve taken properly.

Lol the samsung galaxy s8 was called a huge success and even with this 'downgraded estimates' the iphone x has still sold AT MINIMUM 50% more than the s8 did in the same timespan, and at a much higher pricepoint. Yeah... not successful lmao.

No it’s not successful, neither is the Apple Watch, in ‘Apple’ sales terms they are failures because they would announce Apple Watch sales figures on there own if it was successful.

The market expects a certain amount of sales and it is now downgrading those expectations on the X, it has not been a success, what do you expect when it’s so overpriced?

That’s it, no more discussions on the X in this thread from me. I’d rather talk about the SE2 :)

I have an X - I don't "like" the notch but visually its not as distracting as I first thought. I still think it's a dumb design compromise, but not one that detracts greatly from its use. What DOES bother the sh** out of me is that FaceID is crappy and there is no Home button. I find FaceID is slow, and always requires me to "look" at the device, and always right side up. TouchID can be used in any direction, and I can have my phone unlocked BEFORE I get it up to my face from my pocket or where ever. That's the biggest problem with the X. And that it's so big and my fingers can't reach either the top or bottom edge to swipe for unlock or control center, without using 2 hands.

If there's a SE 2 then I am all over that! I love the smaller size, i can use it 1 handed. It fits in my pocket. AS LONG AS IT HAS TOUCH ID! It can have FaceID **in addition** to TouchID if they want. I WANT the home button and Touch ID. And 4" screen.

Alarms are turned off without having to unlock, and you're gonna be looking at the phone when you're paying with Apple Pay anyway.

The only valid one there is when it's flat on a table.

Well the fact that you have to be looking within a certain distance and have to be facing fairly inline with the phone creates many instances where Face ID is more inconvenient. The phone can be on a stand, I could no longer quickly glance at the Notification screen as a I barely take it out of the pocket since it’s not within working range/orientation, quick checks while driving (not recommended), and so many more similar instances (yes, flat on the table being number 1 of such).

Honestly, I can only count a few times when I felt the inconvenience of having to unlock the phone in the winter with a glove, whereas there were a countless number of times for any of the situations I listed above.

Perhaps, if you live in an area where it’s cold all year Face ID maybe more convenient.

That’s not to disregard the clear advantages of Face ID, but people have to admit there is a clear disadvantage for more than just a negligible number of instances that people are legitimately concern with.

They will not waste a chance to sell more AirPowers. I don’t think wireless charging is a sketchy rumor at all. I also think the form factor will change to look a little more like the 8’s - so a more subtle, rounded edge.

Edge to edge display seems doubtful as does force touch (until iPad have force touch and they are no longe forced to program alternative ways to interact at least).

Upgraded to 32 and 128

LOL.... yeah, right. Apple is "upgrading" the current low-end 64GB SE to 32GB! Thanks for the "upgrade" Tim! /s

My personal ideal phone, but it's not going to happen. Bigger is better in the Apple world now. Not smaller.

Only in phones. Funny how Apple seems to have this backwards.... Reducing the size of laptops and increasing the size of phones so that neither is as functional or utilitarian as it should be.

I tried the 6+ phablet and will never go back to that behemoth (for many reasons) and I detest thinning laptops to the point where the keyboards lack travel and durability and useful (USB-A) ports are omitted.

I would love the SE form factor, but I’m a sucker for better front facing camera (and the X is the best one currently). I guess we’ll wait and see. A new SE with the same FaceID system (and thus better front facing camera with Portrait Lighting) would be awesome.

I like t be able to do it without having to look at it.

I don’t have to be looking at my phone when I pay with Apple Pay. Plenty of times the terminal is in a position where my face isn’t in view of the phone.

Look I get the whole 'not looking at the phone' thing but it doesn't apply here. You still have to look at your phone to ensure Apple Pay has activated, your biometrics have authenticated and also that you have the correct card selected.

The terminal can be in any sort of position, as long as you've authenticated beforehand.

When they released the SE I thought they used the current gen at the time CPU the A9? If so is it not likely they'd do it again? especially as the A10 was not massively better (compared to the A11 jump) than the A9 in the first place.

A10 was quite a big jump (not as big as A8-A9) but the main thing it adds is HEIC and HEVC compatibility and the availability of the low power cores for background work which should help with storage and battery life.

Having said all that, I would be a bit disappointed if there was no A11. The SE was a complete iPhone 6s missing only 3D touch, 5 MP front camera (probably as Apple had a lot of 5/5s front assemblies left over) and the barometer (I think). Other than that it had the same specs as the flagship. Therefore I'd like to see an A11 and wireless charging. I think 3D touch is really struggling to get a foot hold in 3rd party apps so it's inclusion would finally mean that all iPhones on sale support it.

True dat. I'd easily want a MacBook Pro thicker at the base to avoid use of dongles + even more battery (especially the 13" version). Imagine a double battery or at least 50% more. Their obsession with thinness has blinded them of functional greatness for the user with regards to the Mac range.

We can blame the Asian market for their obsession with phablet sized phones :(.

That's not going to change the adoption rate of 3D Touch. It's just not a compelling technology that adds to an improved user experience. Most can take it or leave it.

Hopefully they don't ruin it by removing Touch ID and put in a notch.
A notch as big as the iphone x doesn’ t even fit right and has no use.
[doublepost=1515511071][/doublepost]It would be good for apple to make 2 se models.

1. SE with the same design, bezels , 4.0 inch screen, glass back , updated internals , camera’ s and , touchid for $349-$399 for 64gb version.
2. SE+ in the same footprint, but with smaller bezels, small chin and forehead(no notch) new aspect ratio/stretched 4.7-5.0 inch screen, with faceid for $549-599 for 64gb version.

It must be nice to have a single product bring in over $30 billion of revenue in just 3 months be considered 'not a success'! That's a very strange definition!

$199. Blow the competition away. At one point Apple was becoming dominant. Now the market is spread out. If Apple wants to recapture, it needs to price aggressively again similarly to iPhone, iPhone 3G/3GS and 4/4S.

The commenter might actually mean success could be much much greater.

I hope it arrives before too long as my older iPhone, a 5S on my French account is needing renewal. I might well go for a discounted SE/1 rather than a 2, as I much prefer the more robust metal back. Very much depends on what additional features the SE/2 offers. I have been very pleased with my SE/1
