Why wouldn't they? They need to start having some consistency between devices. With the upcoming "AirPower" wireless charger it only makes sense to ensure that all future devices supports wireless charger no matter if they are "cheaper" or not. Whats the point with those chargers if you can't even use all your 2018 Apple devices with them?

When tech is replaced by something better or more convenient your argument makes sense - I've seen plenty of examples of touch-ID being faster and more reliable than FaceID so perhaps it's not there yet?
I haven't in my usage. I don't have to stand at the terminal like an idiot holding my phone with my thumb on the fingerprint sensor until it scans. I just need to scan my face and then when the terminal is read I can just point the phone.

If there's a SE 2 then I am all over that! I love the smaller size, i can use it 1 handed. It fits in my pocket. AS LONG AS IT HAS TOUCH ID! It can have FaceID **in addition** to TouchID if they want. I WANT the home button and Touch ID. And 4" screen.

I would love the SE form factor, but I’m a sucker for better front facing camera (and the X is the best one currently). I guess we’ll wait and see. A new SE with the same FaceID system (and thus better front facing camera with Portrait Lighting) would be awesome.

The only iPhone with acceptable size.
I would pay up to 2500$ for the new iPhone SE X.
Apple should stop making insanely huge phablets and concentrate on normal sizes like 3,5-4 inch!

Just want a small phone. Price is not a factor. Yes please, thank you :)

Just for the record, I would like a small phone too.

Won't pay equivalent to $2500 for a new small onehanded SE, no way.
But I definitely want a small phone, no phablet.
Would love if they upgraded it in form and put in just about everything.

I bend for the evolution, just keep the 4" size of SE2 :)

The odd thing about this rumor is the original SE was designed to have less features given its lower price, and so the SE2 having the latest features doesn't really jive. Space inside the small form factor is at a premium and I'd rather see them add other things, like force touch instead of wireless charging
AFAIK, they would prefer wireless charging since they can make more money off additional sales of accessories. I'm assuming it won't come with that capability out of the box since even the IphX and Iph8's didn't include those.

Only Apple targets the low end market with a $649 device...
Well, $649 IS the new $200 :p Especially since $1000 is the new $650 :( $400 less seems to make something "low end" to Apple, regardless relative to whatever else

I'm gonna need a 10". 4" simply isn't big enough for my needs.

Already available, it's called iPad ;)

I agree completely. A 4" SE based on the 8 hardware with 3D Touch would be the perfect successor to my current SE. I don't need wireless charging.

Those enhanced modifications don't sound like a SE-type of build from a cost perspective. My guess, as I've posted here in the past, is that the SE will get dropped in favor of standardizing a common iPhone manufacturing build moving forward, only differentiated by size and cost. Take it to the bank and book it.

1. Large (X Plus)
2. Medium (X)
3. Small (current SE size)

Yeah it’s so successful all analysts are downgrading it’s oredicted sales....
Hardly a success story, especially at a grand.
It’s not the most comfortable either by a mile, because it feels like a mile when you stretch to bring down control centre!

Gah why are you all discussing the X anyway? The SE does 97% of what it does for about a third of the price!

Do not know about "97%" but it does what I need from an iPhone to do.
Nothing more, nothing else.

I have had it since it was announced, and have never had "iPhone envy" relative to the new editions.

In terms of aesthetics, I consider the SE, Apple's Porsche 911, Leica M3...; in term of ergonomics, I consider the SE the best of the lot given its usability and durability factors.

But that is my opinion -- others will differ.

My perfect scenario (and I know it won’t happen with the SE2) is a dual lens, OLED with 256gb. Essentially the iPhone X but smaller, in size and price point. I’ve never understood the appeal of “wireless” charging so I could take or leave it.

I doubt even the third gen one will have all those features. I’d be happy to pay a premium, relative to SE pricing (as £1,150 is just too much).

The $649 is obviously more of the mid-tier market and the SE would be the low end market.

The article itself specifically states the 6.1" device is targeting the low end market as well. That is what makes the statement so ludicrous, it implies Apple believes a device that costs the same as last year's flagship iPhone 7 is now low-to-mid range.

Alongside these two OLED iPhones, Apple is also said to be planning to introduce a 6.1-inch iPhone with an LCD display, positioned as a more affordable device targeting the low-end and mid-range markets, with a starting price of $649 to $749 in the United States.

The article is wrong, IMO. It says both and clearly the SE is the low end model, the LCD is mid and X/X Plus are flagship.

If it stays basically the same, keeps the headphone jack and fits my Rode iXY microphone I'll be interested.

Wishful thinking probably.

$199. Blow the competition away. At one point Apple was becoming dominant. Now the market is spread out. If Apple wants to recapture, it needs to price aggressively again similarly to iPhone, iPhone 3G/3GS and 4/4S.

The commenter might actually mean success could be much much greater.

When was an iPhone $199 (or even close) other than when after subsidy, which really meant it was still $400+?

Hmm seems like an pointless update to me if they do this that will only push its price up, and no doubt Apple will make it so they can only replace the back glass for a small fortune.
But then again at least it would point to a redesign of the phone.

If faster processor, better camera, and better display weren't reasons to update an iPhone, we'd really have no updates.

The iPhone SE has been under $200 (no subsidy) for the past 4 months... locked in to a pay-as-you-go service, but that is the price of the phone itself. Full service ranges from $25-$45 a month.

I like the 6 size, not the Plus size as that’s just massive, I tried a Note 5 twice and even though that was smaller then Apples Plus phone it felt like a 70” HD telly in my pocket! Both of them didn’t last long in my ownership...

But I’ll look at a new SE if it offers cool features and that switches 128GB option. It’ll be cheap enough to buy and try out before ditching my 6S or 8. The X is also a bit too big and silly money.

If faster processor, better camera, and better display weren't reasons to update an iPhone, we'd really have no updates.

Not if it increases costs, the entire point of the SE is low price entry into the iPhone world, it’s pointless if they add a feature only to them add an extra 100 to its price tag!

I'm guessing you don't own an iPhone X? And if you do, does the notch actually bug you when using it?

Most of the notch hate seems to be from people who don't even own an X and just think they'd hate it

I have X and notch does not bother me. But I dislike face ID. I liked touch ID significantly more. I would like to have both if possible. Under the screen Touch ID would be perfect :)

you had VHS tapes on your computer?

I had used cassette tapes on my first computer...

You're not taking into consideration that it's a very small demographic that actually prefers the four-inch iPhone display in today's market. The majority of iPhone users are heavily involved with the 4.7/5.5 inch iPhone and or larger displays. Even if Apple price iPhone SE accordingly, that doesn't mean that it's going to gain anything more than it already has with the demographic that would only want a screen of that size.
