I might be wrong, but they could introduce a 14" rMB in October with Skylake and keep the 12" untouched.
Like the 15" rMBP introduction in spring 2012 and in autumn the 13". And now the 15" still has the older cpu generation.

There are so many people out there who do not care or think about cpu generation...

Ooh..that's a very good point! Now I'm excited again! :D

Considering the rMB was announced in April but wasn't actually readily available for Apple Store walk-in customers until, what, July, I don't see Apple changing the specs until the April timeframe again. They may release a 14" version (like suggested above) with updated internals but a 12" revision won't occur until the current version has gone at least a 1-yr run.

I bet they will update it in october, ready for holidays season. Or else they going to help Dell XPS and surface pro 4 ( both with skylake avaiable october) and boost their sales :D

For me skylake + better camera would be enough for me to take the plunge. 99% of the time I don't use anything other than power for my current laptop. 1% of the time I the SD card reader or a USB drive. Once a year I use the CD drive to install turbotax. Every time I buy a CD, probably 3 or 4 a year, if that, I need to rip it to iTunes.

Extra ports are not a big deal. The bigger deal is better graphics and better battery life.

I think one USB C is way enough too. I only want Skylake with more screen (14") and more RAM (16GB option) and a better camera.

Also it would be good to have wireless charging as Intel set to promise that for Skylake but as of now it seems we are pretty far from that yet.

Just putting wireless charging support into Skylake won't guarantee it gets implemented in the Macbook. It will involve a major hardware redesign as well as they need to add induction coils to receive the power from the power source. Those coils will take up space currently set aside for battery.

And then you'll have a big charging mat or station or whatever you have to lug around with you if you want to charge your computer on the go, or you'll still be attaching a normal power cable when you want to charge away from your desk anyway.

Look at those Samsung wireless charging ads for the latest Edge phone -- the charging pad is bigger than the phone! When does that become convenient?

I will see wireless charging from Apple, when it will be a truly wireless charging, i mean when a device can charge wireless in an area/room etc until then its not wireless for me or for apple. So probably in 5-10 years we will have this

I don't think it's a zero chance, but I do agree it's low.

I am increasingly expecting nothing new in the laptop line this fall, with a big revamp of the entire line in late winter. The chips for the Pro machines won't be available until then, and Skylake is the perfect opportunity to redesign the entire lineup. Introducing a 14" rMB now would just create confusion until the rest of the lineup becomes clear.

I wouldn't be surprised if they discontinue one of the sizes of the MBA before (or simultaneous to) the release of a second size of MacBook.

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple releases something refreshed or new this fall. I also wouldn't be surprised if they don't release anything. They tend to do things on their own schedule for the most part. I do admit, though, that it is sometimes fun to speculate.

I think the same. Apple annouced macbook saying 12" display is the perfect size for portability without giving up a full keyboard. The future pipeline could be 12" macbook and 13,3"/15,6" macbook pro with tweaked design with some innovations introduced with macbook. 14" inch macbook is a posibility, depending on the 12" success...apple could introduce that new size to complete the non-pro line, but I'm not sure.

Looking at the Intel specs for the Skylake Core M processors, I see it's confirmed that these will support 4K output at 60 Hz.

Specs of one of the current Broadwell Core M :
http://ark.intel.com/products/84672/Intel-Core-M-5Y71-Processor-4M-Cache-up-to-2_90-GHz

In the graphics section, Intel states the max resolution via DisplayPort is 2560x1600 @ 60 Hz.

Now on the new Skylake Core m3/5/7, they explicitely states 3840x2160 @ 60 Hz via DP :
http://ark.intel.com/products/88199/Intel-Core-m7-6Y75-Processor-4M-Cache-up-to-3_10-GHz

I can't wait for these new MacBooks, it's all they have been lacking for my workflow!

Wireless charging is a big yawner. Yet another thing to plug in and worry about and lose, etc. Really, do other things. Samsung has it and no one has ever ditched the iPhone for a Samsung simply because it has wireless charging. Bring on USB C instead :)

I have a hard time seeing wireless charging being that big of a bonus for computers and even iPhones. You'll still have to bring the charger with you if you travel, and for smaller devices you'll have to add the induction coil. For computers like the Macbook, I'd rather just dock it with one connector to get power, data, and audio/video, and be done with it.

Agreed - to me wireless charging isn't interesting until you plug a block into the power socket, and then so long as you sit within a few metres of it, your laptop will charge. But this kind of technology is prrobably still a few years off (and would likely need a thicker chassis)

Surely they won't wait until April for Skylake? Wonder what's the longest they've delayed refreshing their notebooks after CPU updates. I wouldn't be surprised if they do wait that long but I'd put a small bet on the updates happening this year, another reason being the substantial benefit Skylake would bring to the rmb.

499 days for the Macbook Air, is the longest wait for an update. No idea how that matches up with available CPU's, but I don't see why that wasn't one of the driving forces.

The problem is that updating to Skylake now may hamper Apple from having any processors to update the rMB to in 2016. Also, the 15" MacBook Pro was refreshed with Haswell again in 2015 - a month before Broadwell came out and it's entirely possible Apple will skip Broadwell entirely for the 15" MacBook Pro - and update it again next year with Skylake-U.

AFAIK, Apple has traditionally waited ~4-6 months after an announcement before updating their computers with new processors.
