Same here, 7 won't be out until October. I really don't know why there's such a big delay. Maybe making the SL discs took priority over Windows 7 discs :p

Their photocopiers broke and they're waiting to get them serviced. Cut em some slack.

It has released in NZ, right? Where are the impressions? Not enough dedicated kiwis out there.... :p

I just love to think about this situation:

- Current MS OS is the "Vista", which was released years late
- Current Apple OS is the "Snow Leopard", which was released a month early

Can you imagine better showing the middle finger to MS :D

(EDIT: To clarify my point, some people have already received their copy of SL, therefore it is released. W7 has not yet been released.)

Apple doesn't have the OEM channel to go through to get its software out on computers. Retail full license sales aren't a big part for Microsoft when compared to OEM ones.

If you really want to be technical Microsoft won by having the master out on July 22. There are even patches lined up already as well for retail release.

On the other side you have people that still wish Apple had kept Snow Leopard in development for longer.

Ahhh macrumors, where one's childish side shows itself, for all to see. I honestly consider the fact that half of you are on ego trips, judging by the ridiculous things you bicker about.

HAhahahaa!

I only read this site because of the ridiculous fanboy pants-wetting. It's such a train wreak, I just can't help myself!

Whine on comrades, whine on!

You know what would be funny? If Microsoft reviewed Snow Leopard and said this: "Uh, yes. We installed Snow Leopard on all our Macs at Corporate and we think, it stinks. Buy Windows 7!" :p

You want a real FACT... The FACT is none of you will really know why Apple dropped prices, all anyone will have (unless you are from Apple's exec management or marketing teams) is vast speculation, regardless of what side of the fence for Apple/MS, Mac/PC you are on.

All I do know, is that my upgrade to Snow Leopard is a heck of a lot cheaper than Win 7.

Now back on topic.... oh say about the reviews or something

"All I do know, is that my upgrade to Snow Leopard is a heck of a lot cheaper than Win 7."

Yeah and that's an "on topic" response... Please...

Show me when Apple has EVER dropped the price of ANY item they sell. Just out of the "goodness of their herarts".

Yes it's a fact that Apple dropped their prices after the Laptop Hunter ads. I doubt anyone would debate that.

The problem is that you're drawing conclusions about this that are no more probable than any other conclusion.

But again, it makes no difference even if Apple did it *because of* the ads. Apple seems to have simply captialized on MS' folly. MS helped Apple sell more Macs, in that case, while simultaneously turning out a history-making lousy quarter of their own. It was nice of them. I have to admire such self-sacrifice. Thank you, MS, for your continued efforts to make your leaner, meaner, faster (and much better-looking) competition look smarter than you are.

SPIN SPIN SPIN, where it stops nobody knows. Continue your life in your "Apple Bubble". Someday it will pop, then you will be shocked when you realize there is a real world out there.

Um . . . the Premium end of the market is a real part of it. Hence the 45-50 million OS X users. Our standards and expectations of how tech should work in our lives is just a little bit different, is all. We make a conscious choice to not use Windows. Your buddy Paul even admitted as much.

And telling us that our satisfying computing experience - year after year, will someday end, is beyond juvenile. Then again, most of your posts here on MR have been just that.

The reality is that our relative satisfaction won't end, not today, and not anytime soon. It just keeps getting better and better.

What are you going to do until then?

Lex this is going to be my 2nd and last response to you on this,

Honestly, tell me when any company has dropped the price of ANY item they sell. Just out of the "goodness of their herarts" that's not what companies do, at-least viable ones that want to make money, and especially ones accountable to shareholders.

if you wanna debate this I have no problem with it, just do it in the appropriate place, where that's what the topic is about.

No one drops prices to be nice. They do it to move more units, often relative to economic circumstances, and according to their focus either on margin or volume.

Quite true.

I don't see Apple making a loss on selling the "upgrade" version for $29. They're rather mum about Snow Leopard and really want to push units. For what reason, I don't know.

I like the New York Times review

I am scared as hell that photoshop CS3 will rip me off another 500bucks. Sick of it.

NYTimes...
I experienced frustrating glitches in various programs, including Microsoft Word, Flip4Mac, Photoshop CS3, CyberDuck and TextExpander, an abbreviation expander. (Interestingly, Snow Leopard offers its own typing-expander feature, but it works primarily in Apple programs, like TextEdit, Mail, Safari and iChat.) The compatibility list at snowleopard.wikidot.com lists other programs that may have trouble.

Most of these hiccups will go away when software companies update their wares (although Adobe says, “Just upgrade to Photoshop CS4”). Let’s hope that Apple hurries up with its inevitable 10.6.0.1 update, too, to address the occasional Safari crash and cosmetic glitch I experienced, too.

We do have reports from MR users, however, that CS3 works fine, if that's any consolation.

I haven't tested it myself, though.

And? 10.5 was delayed twice.

10.5 Leopard was first announced June 6, 2005 at WWDC '05 with an "intended" release window of "late 2006 or early 2007 right around the time when Microsoft is expected to release Longhorn." DELAYED

10.5 Leopard was re-announced August 7, 2006 at WWDC '06 with a "scheduled to ship in Spring 2007" release window. DELAYED

10.5 Leopard was re-announced June 11, 2007 at WWDC '07 with an October release window. FINALLY SHIPPED

Of course we did get 10.2 Jaguar, 10.3 Panther and 10.4 Tiger before Vista finally shipped. 10.1 Puma was released a month before Windows XP. Not to mention, Apple transitioned from PPC to X86 during the time frame also.

Microsoft finally shipped Vista to consumers in January of 2007.

I am downloading the CS4 trial to check it out anyway.
Perhaps it is 50% faster??

But feature wise all I ever needed was Photoshop 7. Bring back Photoshop LE.

eh? Microsoft needs photocopiers to make copies of Windows 7 disks?

That would be Photoshop Elements

Who could REALLY care a crap what some reviewer thinks about ANYTHING?. The best review, is the one you do, by ownership of items. Move on, and stop being so childish. Noone actually cares, bar you.

Sure, that's true, but I'm certainly going to read as many reviews as I can, in order to decide whether I want to use the product (or maybe, in the case of Snow Leopard, when I want to use it). But I wouldn't blindly take any single reviewer's word as final; I'll sift what everyone has to say, and what experiences are related, in order to form a general opinion.

Exchange and Open CL don't really matter to me, but it seems like a much faster version of Safari would make most users want to upgrade. I take it the 64 bit Safari in Snow Leopard will not be available as a stand-alone update on the Apple site.

There's no online version of the license that I know of, you just have to read what came on the disc.

As long as there is no other official statement from Apple about this, the license will not permit upgrades from Tiger to SL for $29. Anything that Apple has said so far was "It's an upgrade from Leopard. Tiger users need to buy the big box." and nothing else. They don't have to deny Tiger upgradability. If it's not specifically allowed, it's not licensed. Period. Just because it works, doesn't mean it's allowed.

I don't know what WM thought when he advocated the $29 Tiger-to-SL upgrade. Probably not much. Where exactly does it say that he checked with Apple that it's LICENSED? The way I read it they just said that it's TECHNICALLY feasible.

One thing that really impresses me is how quickly Apple can pull these things off. To go from Gold Master to store shelves in about two or three weeks. Compare that to Windows 7 - the Gold Master was finished before SL, yet won't be released for another two months. I'm impressed.

Sure, but anyone who really wants a copy of Windows 7 just now will have downloaded the public RC which is valid for a year. Microsoft will also be syncing their launch with their OEM partners' launches too. It's a big task and one Apple don't have to contend with.

i find myself saying this over and over again in these forums...apple is primarily a hardware company...apart from a select few professional applications, for them software is a means to an end. that's why apple has no serial numbers/copy protection for OS X and why they will never support installing OS X on non apple hardware.

I remember when upgrades were free; they did that all through the Apple ][ series; including the GS which had the first color finder. Unfortunately, once tehy discovered people will pay for OS upgrades they ended that. Oh well.

this will remain true as long as steve jobs is CEO...and perhaps even after he's gone if the current culture is strong enough.

I hope so; but they've done some dumb things such as killing Hypercard.
