the weird thing is you get those flat stuff on iwork but when u open the media inspector everything is aqua again

maybe it's because those buttons are pulled from the OS, where the other buttons are a part of iWork. So when it's in Snow Leopard those buttons will be like the other ones.

Marble huh, So we should expect something like this :)

Seems like a lot of you like this idea - which is weird. I find the iTunes scroll bar dull and boring. It's depressing to look at. As a web designer, I rather have my user interface be inspiring like it is now. I would like a change, but not if they're going to go backwards into this flat-subtle gradient way. It reminds me of a crappy css button. It better be an option that I can turn off.

"The less gray, the happier I am today". :)

I hope for a couple of things.

1.) Something like the iPhone GUI. I love the black glass, black boarders and such.
2.) Make it customizable, like any other operating system. Cocoa Finder and desktop will really help that. In addition, I hope for a customizable Finder from the system preferences that is like or actually is Path Finder.

unrelated - add features to iTunes in a cocoa port, like the ability to get tickets and link into YouTube, see lyrics and artist photos like SongBird!

Can anyone tell me why you can't simply choose your own colour scheme/theme in OS/X?
Is there something wrong with being able to choose whatever colour you like for your menubar, etc., as you can in Windows?

Is it possible the new iMac is getting a delayed release so that it can ship with Snow Leopard?

The operating system alone wouldn't have been reason enough. Now if they are wanting to use the new flat application icons and show them within the new larger glass trackpad in the laptops and add the same trackpad UI to the desktops, that would be something for which to hold up the show. After all, it's time to bring the multi-finger gestures to the desktops.

iWork 09 still uses aqua...

OK so is my system on smack or is iWork 09 still actually using aqua (unlike seemingly everyone else on this msg board).
Sure the Template chooser when you first open up any of the three apps sports the new itunes/iphoto UI, but once you select one and start working on your document, there are those nice bright blue aqua side bars etc.
???????

what is the big deal with a totaly 100% unified UI?
besides OCD?
It's generally good interface design when everything looks and feels the same. The idea is that you learn how to use one program and then you're able to learn any other program because the controls are mostly the same.

I hate to be a Debbie Downer but...

I hate to be a Debbie Downer but I see complete disaster for Apple in the release of Snow Leopard unless its like, ummm, FREE.

Do you have any idea how many MDD, Digital Audio, Quicksilver, and even Sawtooth Macs are currently running Leopard even though its unsupported on many of those machines? DUH!

Not to mention all the late model iMAC G5s and Powermac G5s, all still quite technically capable machines & Leopard supported as well that people will NOT BE REPLACING IN '09 due to the worsening economy.

Apple better scramble up a PPC version of Snow Leopard and quick or this will be the worst sales of any version of Mac OS X in years.

Especially since every preview of Snow Leopard seems to suggest on one level or another that this is just, ummmm, UN-BUGGY LEOPARD or LEOPARD FIXED FINALLY!

And that's a REAL PISSER for late model Powermac G5 owners who spent a fortune on their Mac :(

These are idiots talking. Fitting to content is only as useful if the content remains stable... which is usually NEVER the case unless it's a static document which is also very vague because most images are zoomable... most text documents are multi-page.

There is really no argument for maximizing to content vs fully using the entire screen other than people's personal opinions.

One argument for the zooming document is so that you can see documents behind the main document so it is easier to compare / copy paste items to those documents. This may have been the case 10 years ago, but with alt tab, and more importantly expose, it is no longer needed.

The facts are that maximizing to desktop allows the most surface area to be used and focused on the application at hand. With alt tab and expose and spaces Apple has all but removed the function of the zoom button by creating vastly superior solutions.

What I'd like to see next is fullscreen mode in ALL work related applications. Pages is a great start, the fullscreen mode is a huge improvement to focusing your writing.

I hope for Snow Leopard they remove the zoom button and introduce a maximize button (with animation if they wanted to) and then introduce a third button for fullscreen mode to replace the capsule on the right top part of the window.

Maybe I can put it in a perspective people understand. Leopard is a Ford Mustang. Snow Leopard is a Shelby Mustang.

It looks much like the same car. No new "user features". Most of the car has been dramatically improved. Not by "tweaks" or "optimizations". We're talking completely major changes. But you won't see them driving in the city.

Does that help? I'm really tired of hearing people talk about Snow Leopard as if its just a service pack or minor update.

Hope you're right - but with Windows 7 coming I think Apple will lose momentum for new customers without something flashy...

I would gladly pay 130$ for Snow-Leopard, I didn't shell money for Leopard, useless feature IMO, I got it with a new machine through. Tiger and Leopard were IMO lame update, nothing really more then 3rd party incorporated into the OS (virtual desktop for example). The only real feature was spotlight and meta information search. If you give me a faster OS that can pull out more of those multiple core and GPU with the same hardware, it's a freaking good update. I remember the old day of OS X (I have use it since 10.0 beta), when a major update were equal to more speed on the same hardware. Tiger and Leopard are the only one that slow down on the same hardware and give mostly eye candy.

Make it as rock solide as 10.2 was, solve the wireless network issue many have, the keyboard issue... and make it fast, I will the first in the line to pick this baby up.

You may well be in a minority if Apple offer it at that price. Don't get me wrong, I'm fully in agreement with you re: the rocksolid basics but I doubt anyone's going to pay full price for that.

to be honest, as long as the Unsanity boys can get Shapeshifter running on this version, I don't really care what apple do with the visuals. As it seems to be a complete re-write of how the main GUI elements will be working, I'm hoping they can!

I can't imagine they could honestly make it loo too bad though.

I hope they don't go the flashy route. I've been using Windows 7 in my Windows VM for a while now, and while I can say it's a huge improvement on Vista, and a much more worthy contender for a modern OS, it's still Windows. It still has the same archaic nightmarish constructs at its core that make stability an almost unattainable goal, and while some of the new GUI features are nice, they're mostly just cheap knock-offs of the OS X Dock or Exposé, which have missed the point of what makes the OS X originals good.

I'm hoping for more of what they did with Leopard, making everything more consistent, some extra usability features would be nice, but I can't imagine what I really need. Making it easier to actually maximise windows perhaps, since the "fit to content" idea isn't really for me.
Besides that, the more unified they make things, the more I'd like them to build themes into the OS. Unsanity's solutions are nice things to have, but ultimately they are hacks, they don't work perfectly, and every OS update risks breaking them. Built in themes would be much better, that way Apple could offer the current Leopard appearance (which I like as it's nice and unobtrusive) and also a shinier one for people that want that.

Hopefully when this does get released we will also a new Mac mini and iMac.
It's very likely we won't see anything until WWDC.

Free? Not in Apple's dictionary, my friend. But I take your point re: the recession and the worsening economy. Apple needs to take into account that there won't be as many people willing to put their hands into their pockets just to get the latest system...

I really don't think you want to spin up this debate again ...

Ahhh, and I thought it can't get any more boring than it already is, seriously, why? It's grey, and even more grey, and dark grey and a lot of GREY ... BORING! Personally I think Windows 7 now looks way better with it's fresh and nice UI compared to this whole grey thing. I used to love aqua, but if they make OS X like iTunes, then .. DAMN that's soo boring. Like going back to 90s, it was grey back then as well...

That's your opinion. Millions of people do not have to share it with you.
If you want windows 7 - then use windows 7.
I like the leopard look and I understand the unified look. its good. its normal and its logical It doesn't distract you from work. I like that better.

Windows 7 has "absolutely no taste". just the mix of ripped colors and interfaces. all colors do not harmonize with ewach other but just cry. oh my. no way.

I don't know the details of what all these supposed problems with Leopard are, but here on my Mac mini Core 2 Duo, bought with Leopard already installed on it, I never had any problems.

I wonder if everyone who has problems have updated their computer from 10.3 to 10.4 or have things that mess with OS X itself?

Also, put me in the "I want a unified iTunes-like look at the OS level" side. I never cared for those blue, candy-like widgets. ;)
