I agree with much of what you said, but not this particular point. Apple's stock price, as it stands right now, already accounts for investor's impressions of July 11. Investors are already building into the Apple price the new sales of July 11. So, when those new sales hit, there won't be a jump in the stock price.

Oh, I hadn't gotten the memo.

Glad you cleared that up :p

But in the past Apple stock tends to go down after a keynote, then up in the days following, if memory serves

Extremely dissapointed that 32gb version is STILL not available, otherwise extremely happy with the price of $299 for 16gb, but to add insult to injury they make you wait another month. They better let you pre-order the item online. So far only engadget has said you can do this, whatever... hasn't been available for pre order yet :(

1. Video conferencing
2. July 11th

so i guess not much

please stop the whining. its ok guys. get it in your hands first....then cry!

I am thrilled. Can't wait to buy. Fixes all the reasons I did not buy rev. 1, particularly 3G. Mobile Me looks perfect. The new apps that will come on board. I like the new look. I would have liked 32GB but..... I like the new price point. Makes it more disposal. replace every year. GPS is a nice add.

I was really looking forward to the 2nd gen iPhone but the more I think about it, it doesn't seem the godsend it could have been.

Compare it to the N96 which is comign soon from Nokia.

http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_n96-2253.php
http://www.gsmarena.com/apple_iphone_3g-2424.php

16GB internal ram + MicroSD card slot Vs only 16GB
5 Megapixel cam with autofocus and flash,
3G Video Calling and finally
DVB-H TV broadcast receiver.

I'm currently using a 16GB iPod touch and my N95 as a 3G access point with Joikuspot software so i can browse on the admitedly excelent Safari browser using my 3.5G connection on my N95.

This has made my phone upgrade decisions difficult when it's up at the end of the year..... It could be the N96..... :(

As someone who jumped to Apple/ATT on day 1 for the iPhone and then left to back to VZW because its better in my area, I was REALLY hoping to have this be the day that my dreams come true. Unfortunately I am really dissapointed and I think Apple just doesnt get it. I mean first and foremost, basic SMS functionalities such as forwarding are still missing. Secondly MMS is still missing. Third, so is Flash support. Fourth, basic copy and paste is missing.

Seriously?

I am an Apple fanboi as much as the next, but I dont have my head stuck so far up Jobs' @$$ that I just accept whatever he throws out there as the next greatest thing. The iPhone is still leaps and bounds above all the other phones out there when it comes to music and internet and OS and user interface, however in all the other areas it lags far behind. For the life of me I cant understand why there is no MMS and cut/copy & paste.

Well now I will play the waiting game and see if they somehow announce those functions as they release a little more info on the phone in the next month. There still is time for them to release more info before its release.

Im only mad about the wait... and the old ones arent for sale anymore so I have one option

Go without a phone for a month.... :(

Meh. Not that huge of an upgrade, for many of the reasons stated above. It seems more like Apple pulling up to speed with companies that specialize in phones. Perhaps next version they'll get it right and be more on par with what's becoming more standardized on most phones.
I can almost see flash being a problem for security reasons among others.
The lack of A2DP is a bit surprising, though. It's also the deal breaker for me. Does anyone know why that isn't a feature?
Either way, it's surely a nifty setup with the GPS, in my opinion, and just short of being an all-in-your-pocket tool.

With the next months wait, I cant believe no iPhones will have been for sale for almost TWO MONTHS. Thats a chunk out of a full years worth of iPhone sales.

Steve said they sold out. Hmm.

I thought they quit selling the orig. iPhone because of the 14 day return policy (people getting rid of the new purchase of the orig, for the new 3G within 14 days). Guess THAT theory goes out the window.

In fact, every theory I had, was shot to hell because of the next months wait time. Seeing that I didnt sell my original iPhone and having to wait a full month before the new sales start up, I may wait a little longer to see what people have to say about the new one before I make my purchase. I know I'll get one eventially (because of the gps and 3g) but I dont have a problem waiting a little longer.

PEOPLE, Mobile Me and all the new software, games (except a possible GPS related program) are going to be available to Version 1 owners with 2.0 update!! No advantages added here but 3G & GPS chip...

Some people on here just amaze me.

If you are truly a fan of Apple as a company, today may go down as one of the biggest announcements in company history.

The most wanted phone on the market is now affordable for millions of more people.

Millions of more customers = Billions of more dollars for Apple.

Billions of more dollars for Apple = funding for even more cool gadgets and technology in the future.

But no, let's just sit here and cry cause Daddy Jobs didn't meet your impossible to satisfy expectations. If they had announced 32 GB, you'd still complain about the plastic back. If the back was still metal, you'd still complain about no Flash. If tomorrow they announce flash, you'll still complain about the video conferencing.

This is, from a business standpoint, an incredible turn of events for the iPhone and for Apple. I guess most people here are just a product of this "me-first" society and won't be satisfied unless Steve Jobs personally autographs and hand-delivers your 32 GB Video Conferencing, time travel-enabled iPhone for just $49!

Why can't we just for once focus on the positives instead of flooding the boards with this stuff. /sigh

I for one will be lined up July 11 to get one. And I imagine some of the people now crying just might be too.
Agreed - 100%.
:D

i was referring to my lack of disappointment in the total announcement. I am not upgrading.. I am a new iPhone buyer, but not a new Apple guy. Those are all advantages to me!! I did not buy version 1 largely because of insufficient integration in the way Mobile Me will and because of 3G. Bingo... this is the product I have waited for.. and only $299... Like I said, I am thrilled, though a month is going to be long.

Gosh, some people are just never satisfied, now are they?

What would've had happened if apple included ALL of the features people wanted in the new iPhone? The NEXT iPhone would suck.

You can't have everything....

If anyone is disappointed from this year's WWDC keynote, I'd hate to see your reactions to the 2007 one. Or, even worse, 2005.
yea i dont seem to remember anyone caring that much when apple wasnt FLOODED with the public spotlight like it is now.

Well lets see, they added 3G and GPS to their new revolutionary phone. Those are features that phones have been carrying for years. They basically just caught up to today, and with not having MMS, cut/copy paste, SMS manipulation such as forwarding, they are still behind.

just one question....

DOES IT HAVE MOBILEME:confused::confused:

It`s OS and the user experience which has made iPhone so much popular. And from that point of view iPhone 2.0 firmware will blow away any sort of competition. Nothing currently on the market can make me switch from iPhone.

Okay, I'm an Apple fan and an iPhone fanboy... but even I have to cringe at how absurd you sound... hah. First off, MobileMe isn't a feature of the new iPhone... it's an additional $100 a year for syncing services. While yes, the iPhone is great and is easy to use, etc, etc... that Samsung sounds pretty cool... don't bash it with a comeback like "OMG BUT MOBILEME OMG". Pretty lame.

Laugh?!!!

Get laughed at by the people who didn't sell their iPhones.

You can laugh, but I'll be laughing harder because I sold my 4gb for $500. Try something like that with the 3g version almost here. Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha

I was looking forward to it with our Verizon contract up, however the delay and also the extra $10/mo with an AT&T contract means that being able to move both my own and also my wife's phone has hit the rails. She wasn't convinced over AT&T coverage anyhow but the ounce of convincing I had went bang. I could go on my own with this, but the in-network we use heavily for calls.

Now, swapping out my iPod for an iPod touch is more realistic.

Ah well, iPhone v3 possibly! :(

Oh, and they made it plastic....WTF?:confused:

It's not WTF though. It's perfectly logical - plastic is better than metal when it comes to radios and communication devices. It's why the PowerBook has plastic bits covering the wifi and BT aerials.
