I wish I had that kind of money to throw around.. :(

Oh, don't get the wrong idea, that wasn't out of my own money. I bought it through the company.

If it was my own cash, I would waited for OWC to get it in stock.

Actually, if was my own cash, I'd be using a 2 year old MBP with 4GB and making it work. :)

Apple Store support employees usually doesnt know much about this stuff. 99% of the time I know more than what the geniuses or any apple support people do. They probably just say yes to get you off their back.

8GB of RAM will boot with the 2.4/2.53GHz unibody mbp but I remember in the article they say only 6GB of RAM is actually utilized and if OSX tries to utilize all 8 it crashes. Theres no doubt its a limitation on the logic board.

Boy am I glad I sold my 2.53GHz unibody mbp just before the new updates hit. :D

its even worse, ive read if you have 8gb only 4gb utilizes and if you go over it crashes! :)

im happy with my 2.53 though.. before i update HD and RAM on the tower, wont be anything left for the mbp anyway. not that id need more than 4 on my portable atm. :) when i do, i can go six. and when i need more, its almost cheaper to update to a new gen instead of blowing 1000$ on ram. :D

Yes, this would be great to do, and more constructive that presuming, ala Whitefang. Though there wouldn't really be much use for 8GB's in the Macbook for users, let alone in the MBP's. We're a very select group of Mac users on here, so most people won't care or even know that the 15" MBP's have the capability to go to 8GB. I'd suspect that of all the users on our boards that could actually make use of 8GB - would take up most of the Apple users on the whole. But then, that would be presuming :) lol

Well I currently have my 2.4GHz Al MacBook, and I do find myself using more than 4GB at times (not everyday, but I found myself using swap every now and then commonly). So yes, for me, having the option to go to 8GB would be heaven on Earth or Nirvana...

In any case, I am still patient on that dump and comparison. Not that I am in a rush to buy the 8GB set, but, it would be handy to expand my possible memory from 4GB to 8GB in a near future.

isnt there some smart cat who can copy the efi from the 2.66/2.93 mbp and put it in the 2.4/2.53?

A little over $1000 I think with tax/shipping. $1044 I think.

Obviously OWC is much cheaper, but I was annoyed by them because they weren't listening to exactly what I was saying. :) Plus Crucial has this in stock.

4GB from crucial in newegg is $53. Wait the ram to go down!

Please buy your RAM from third party places like newegg, they should be compatible. Remember DDR3 and 204 pin. :) You will save hundreds.
That's what I'm doing, lol.

Now, don't tell me that there isn't one person around that can hack a Mac and stop all these people from complaining. :apple:

Okay, it seems like it's a firmware issue. But has anyone tested 8 GB in a 2.4 or 2.53 (late 2008 unibody model) recently. For the people that did get 8GB working (thanks for the screen shots showing actually usage to be more than 6 GB), is it possible to try the same test on a late 2008 model?

I'm just wondering if anything has changed. We just have a bunch of old tests where it never worked. Here's to hoping it does.

I'd love to know this as well. Waiting patiently. ;)
