I've been really surprised at Apple's ability to keep any info about the white phone a secret.

Think about how many leaks we see about various Apple products. Most of the workers in the factory know or have a good idea why it is delayed (and probably could guess a release date too).

Honestly, in my opinion Apple obviously initially delayed the white iPhone because black IS more popular, and they knew they'd have backorders and everything, and white probably is harder to make. Manufacturing issues, I don't buy it. The white front was leaked about a month before the white iPhone 4 announcement, they had the color right from the beginning. Anyway, my real gut feeling is Apple gave the second half of July date thinking they could do it, but after all the antenna issues and proximity issues and stuff they figured they should wait it out. I have a feeling it'll be out this month or November, at latest. But "manufacturing" is definitely not the issue, in my opinion.

Definitely. This is what I've been saying since day one. Manufacturing issues are realized and figured out during the prototype and test unit batches. They had a BUNCH of white iPhones at the iPhone 4 launch event that they felt were perfect enough to let journalists/bloggers from media outlets around the world handle and photograph. How were those phones not subject to the same "manufacturing issues" that are being blamed on the delayed release?

My wife was waiting for the white iPhone but gave up. Got her the black one instead, and she's perfectly happy. :D

Patiently waiting. If not available by Black Friday, I'll just skip 4 and wait for the next one (my 3GS should suffice).

How will Apple make a nicer looking cell phone than the iPhone 4? cause that's damn nice! the other iPhones looked good but you could look at it and know something nicer will come out but I can't say the same now.

I hope they change the front somehow. I am tired of it (probably why I like the white one).

I just read that the Droid 2 R2-D2 edition is out on Sep 30th. Apple could mess with their launch by releasing the white iPhone.

I know they won't, just wishing.

I'm not sure I buy that. For once, I think the iPhone 4 was either rushed to market or just not thoroughly field-tested as much as its predecessors.

Remember a few things:
  1. This is the first iPhone with a camera flash. based on the iResQ white iPhone kit video review, the reviewer claimed that the light from the flash was bleeding through the glass.
  2. Most, if not all of the the field test units were black, and encased in a protective shell to mimic the form-factor of the iPhone 3G/3GS.
  3. Though I can't find pictures to prove it, the custom case probably covered the flash, since they obviously couldn't use it without letting the cat out of the bag, therefore giving less chance of testing it out in the wild.
  4. While it's highly contestable, I still think that the Gizmodo leak pushed the iPhone 4 into production quicker than expected, which may have given them less time to perform any last-minute tweaks and fixes.

I don't have any hard numbers, but with people coveting the unattainable white iPhone 4, and going to extreme lengths to get one (spending $200+ for a conversion kit), I'd say that black isn't necessarily more popular, it's just the only one that's available, and that the white could end up as a "special edition" that Apple could even charge more for.

i plan on selling my 3G and 3GS in order to get a white one. I already have a 32GB black but i need a backup :D. Really hope something is said soon.

I do wonder why they didnt release it. Its been 3 months and still no sign of it.

Now that the GV app is approved, I can't wait to dump Android (Nexus One) and get back to an iPhone. The question now is whether I have the patience to wait for the WHITE iPhone4 or not.

Regardless, it will be a great relief to finally end my ANdrOID experiment.

If the white iphone costs more than the black, I will send a strongly worded email to Steve Jobs.

I've been waiting to order the white one since we all waited until 3am in the spoilerfree topic here for the keynote to finally be put up.

Still waiting... now watch them only offer it in some $500 64gb version that I don't need.

As a third choice at $400, I would consider it.

Ugh losing my mind waiting for this white iPhone. Fail.

same here man.. it just pisses me off more and more every additional day we're forced to wait. I'd kill just for an update on the status of a release date. this may be the last week before I cave in for the black.. HAH yea right.

It's ridiculous people are holding out upgrading to the iPhone 4 all because of a colour. You could have been enjoying the phone all this time! Each to their own I guess.

I find it ridiculous that people think it's ridiculous. I won't settle for a color I don't want, that's all. some are just more adamant about it.. lol.

Lets say this holiday season, you decided to buy a male friend (family member) the new nano just 1 day before Christmas, and you go to the Apple Store to only find out that all they have left is the Pink model, will color matter then?

Will you still buy it and tell your friend, "Hey, its just a color, so look past it and enjoy the nano for what it is"

(yes, this might be an extreme example, but in some cases, color does matter)
