If all you care about is the white back then buy the 15$ one online at multiple stores. You can switch out your back one if you ever have any warranty issues. It's only two screws.
The rest of us want a white front AND back.

god I hope sooo.. but I get this sick feeling that we're all gonna be disappointed again.
I'm kind of hoping for the same thing. They didn't say anything at the iPod event because their was nothing to say, but now that more time has passed, and we are approaching the end of the year, I'm hoping that now they will have an update (crosses fingers for release date).
October/November is when Apple generally finalizes their Holiday Line-up, and with the iPhone/iPad already released, the new iPods are beginning to arrive at most retail stores, this Mac event might be the last event for this year and their last chance to announce the release date of the white iPhone with the Media present in cupertino (I know a Press Release statement is possible).
We also have the conference call on Monday to look forward to.
I'm giving Apple till the end of October to release the white. Then I may just grab a 3gs off ebay for hopefully cheap and wait till next summer. My 3G is just driving me up the wall at this point...
If nothing is said about it soon maybe ya'll should consider something else, like an Android or a Nokia or ANYTHING except to continue feeding the monster that pretty obviously couldn't care any less about you. Vote with your wallet or don't complain!
I sold my 3GS in June , brought htc desire, sold in august now waiting on the white one still.. Not long now! Will be worth the wait I'm sure
Someone BETTER ask about the white iPhone on the conference call. It is getting ridiculous and this is one of the only opportunities anyone will have to throw out questions that can't be avoided.

No the won't allow you to switch. People have been asking since the iPhone 3G (at least I know I've been asking the Genius employees) and they never give in, I don't see this time being any different.

I don't know if questions are allowed at such events but if they are, yes, someone has to have the balls to ask about it. I wonder what answer they could come up with after several months of complete silence.
