Your post makes no sense. If Apple did not make enough, how did you get hold of one? (clue: Apple did make enough but the scalpers buy more than their fair share. The loser here is you, to the tune of $200)

Zilog... Apple did NOT make enough of the devices. Get clued in by looking at the wait time for online orders. If they made enough of them, they would NOT have 4 to 5 week wait.

law =/= ethics

I wasn't going to get technical, but I think you really mean to say law != morals.

morals are one's own idea of right/wrong
ethics are the communities idea of right/wrong.

Theoretically, the law IS supposed to reflect ethics. Laws are created for the purpose of defining and enforcing ethical behavior BUT NOT moral behavior.

Just because you don't feel like a loser doesn't mean you aren't one. You literally are one. You have lost $200 that you didn't need too, be it pocket change or not.
Also, the reason I do not have iPad2 is because I do not live in the US. Once again, US-centric = FAIL.

He isn't a loser, he is a person who just has more disposable income than you or the average person does. Actually sounds like ... well, he's a winner. If he couldn't afford it, then I'm sure he wouldn't have bought it in the first place.

Your argument really doesn't add up.

He spent $200 paying someone to wait in line for him. There was a service performed and he is happy with it. The alternative is would either have to LOSE more money by taking time off work, or simply not have something he is happy to spend money on.

You, on the other hand, do meet one of the definitions of the word "lose" according to wikipedia. "fail to get or obtain" You don't have one. You can not obtain one because you do not live in the US.

........

Side note:

Anyone from the Pittsburgh area tested availability of Ipad 2 locally?

That makes you a loser for paying $100 too much for that last car you bought or that extra 2 cents a gallon for gas when you could have waited a mile for a cheaper station. It's about choices.

Guess my thoughts were that on the CL, iPad2's are going for $200-300 over what they cost in the store. With every other hot electronics item (Wii, N64, etc...) I waited till I found one just for myself. While hearing the stories of folks making money over the shortages.

Call it frustration with the times we live in right now; but I did think of taking advantage of the shortage of iPad2's if I could. But in the end it does feel wrong to me as well....

My post was more of thinking aloud, and appreciate the positive comments made. In reflecting about it, I don't want to be a bottom feeder.

Chip, this is america, and that is capitalism at its finest. Don't feel bad for the chumps that can't find an iPad2. Wah wah, cry me a river? They don't NEED one right this second; they can wait and get over it. Don't feel bad about trying to make a few dollars. They don't need one, but you can't argue at some point in life everyone needs extra $$ .

Anyone who gets mad at you for being an entrepreneur needs to find a pad to contain their PMS and stop worrying about finding an iPad2.

I hate to have to agree. I still don't have mine, probably due to all the resellers. But- hey - if it's legal then more power to them.

I see nothing wrong with it at all... until I'm the guy standing in line behind you! LOL

This is America. If you have the means to buy 10 iPads & sell them for double what you paid, go for it. I don't care if you are in front of me in line. It just means that I should have gotten there before you.

Everyone crying & bitching about resellers are just bitter because they don't have their precious iPad yet. This is a free market. You can call it karma all you want, but if I found a way to basically get my iPad for free, or even make money on the deal, I would be all over it.

And for the record, I do not have an iPad yet, and I am not going to resell it. I just have zero hate for those that do.

I suspect that you and all the people who see nothing wrong with this have their "precious iPads" already. Its easy to play poker with other people's chips.

Good for the Asians.

I just got my 64gb 3G iPad 2 for $200 over retail and it was worth every penny! Apple did not make enough so if you do not want to wait you can get it NOW for a little extra money!

This is the market at work and I would rather have private enterprise involved as it works!:p

Shux I wanted the white 16gb Wi-fi

How are they "other people's chips?" Some people wait in line. Others would rather pay to have someone wait in line for them -- which is what the "scalping" amounts to. This isn't the Civil War draft. It's an iPad.

No one is going to be hurt by waiting a few months until they're available in every Best Buy and WalMart in the country.

What spoiled children we Americans have become, whining over someone making a buck on a totally unnecessary luxury toy. There's a world outside of the Apple Store just begging for moral outrage. Maybe efforts would be better spent elsewhere.

The real question is why aren't you also buying two and reselling it at a profit?

I don't have an iPad 2, btw. But now I feel like going out and buying one from a scalper just so I can put it under that wobbly leg on that table in that extra room I never use.

It would be a waste of money, of course, but it would keep one more iPad out of the hands of a spoiled solipsistic child.

I'm keeping three and selling two.

Those two I just removed from ebay after reading the news this morning.

They are going to be worth even more in the weeks ahead, as the shortages hit hard.

It's really exciting to think I will be recovering some of the Apple Tax I've paid over the last few years.

These iPad 2 models are worth far more on the grey market than I realized until I looked. I'm glad I have the fully loaded 64GB models to sell.

I'd rather have the person with the excess income that can afford to pay a premium for it be the one that doesn't get one as a result of my action. I think the person willing to stand in line for 2 hours wants it more than the person willing to pay a $100 premium to not stand in line, but that's just me.

lot of assumptions going on here... How do you know the guy waiting in line doesn't have as much or more excess income than the guy online? Maybe he just doesn't value the ipad enough to pay the premium and would rather try his luck standing in line? Or maybe he does but wanted to try getting one at retail first. Maybe the guy online stood in several lines and couldn't get one so now he's turning to ebay as a last effort. You have no idea which one of them tried harder to get one, and who has more money to blow.
I Know /I/ wouldn't have paid the extra money- I didn't even value it enough to wait in line. I just tried my luck calling a few stores and got lucky. If I didn't I would have been fine with waiting until stock showed up...no need to cry about the market working as intended...as others have pointed out, it's a toy, not my only source of food water and shelter.... To me it's pretty simple...both the guy willing to pay a premium and the guy standing in line want an iPad badly enough to do those things. If I buy an extra one and sell it to the guy willing to pay more, I make some extra cash, and he gets his ipad. 2 people happy. The guy behind me gets it, only he gets something out of it. Nothing wrong with that, but If I can help it I'll go for getting the added bonus for myself too.

i agree with this post 10,000%.

i bought my ipad2 online and it's not here yet. and if i wanted it in person , i would have gotten in line like everyone else (including the scalpers), so everyone should jsut shove it, especially with the asian comments. damn racists. where the hell are all the mods at

My better half and I are at odds on this...

They would like an iPad2 for themselves... and I admit that though under normal situations I would wait for the iPad3...

Spending some time browsing stores or waiting in line seems a nice way to get them one; and update mine...

Hate to say it... but I am tired of missing the boat on the wave of not making a profit - but but making the demand work in my favor... held of on all the other waves in the past... just did not feel right...

Karma does come around... and never really thought of doing this before...

Hang around here long enough and you'll start thinking that reselling is worse than murder.

Go nuts man, this craze will die down in a few months when supply is plentiful. Catch the opportunity while you can.

thank god there are more sane people in this thread that actually understand economics and don't turn racist once they can't get the toy they want, lol.

You'd think iPads are your last breath the way people talk about them in some of these threads. We ALL have at least 500 bucks to blow on a luxury toy and possibly hours of free time to spend waiting in line...sounds like our lives are pretty good considering. If not being able to get the 500 dollar piece of electronics you wanted is your only problem I'd say you're in good shape.

For people interested in REALLY helping someone, there are plenty of people worse off that you can donate money or time to, what are you doing complaining about the poor soul who waited in line only to miss his chance at getting an iPad...
