Hi All, first time poster here - I feel after getting so much good advice from this discussion, I want to share my buying experience with the hope it might be helpful to others. I just brought home the Series 6 Blue Aluminum with Blue Solo Loop. I hemmed and hawed over what size to get - I measured between and 8 and 9 using the Apple home tool, and 7 inches using a tape measure. When I enter the Tape measure measurements into the Apple converter, it says I need an 8 for a tight fit, and a 9 for a looser fit. I was going to place my order online, and I was trying to decide between 7 and 8, as many people in this discussion have sized down. After reading here about ordering the wrong size, and having to return the whole watch if you get it wrong (and wait until November until they send it back), I decided to order an 8 and scheduled pickup at the Apple Store so I could replace an incorrect size on the spot if need be.
They delivered my watch to me outside the store, then they walked me back in the store to try on different size Solo loops. They were very efficient an accommodating. I would call myself a “watch guy”, as I have several nice mechanical watches with both leather and stainless steel bands,as well as a couple of Garmin‘s, and wear a watch everyday. This is my first Apple Watch. When I tried on the size 8, I immediately thought it felt too tight - not constricting, but not comfortable either. There was really no give, and I felt that wearing this, I would be conscious of the watch on my wrist all the time. I then tried the size 9, and it felt comfortable - I can slide the watch down my arm by about an inch, but the watch does not slide itself, even if I shake it and try to get it to move. I do see a little space under the strap when I look down the side, but again, it feels comfortable, doesn’t move, and this is the way I like all my watches to feel. I have been wearing it for a few hours now, and I made the right choice. Apple swapped the size out in the store with no hassle.
Bottom line, my opinion is that it depends on how you like your watch to feel, so I recommend try before you buy if are able, or order a couple of sizes and return the ones you don’t want. Watch feel is personal, so “size up“ or “size down” advice for the Solo Loop is not the same for everyone - it really depends on how you like your watch to feel on your wrist. Hope this helps, and thanks everyone for all your great advice.
