And she was an ditz in the way she measured herself. Totally not what you'd expect from her.

I lol’d at that too. Looks like she cut out the measuring tool with a butter knife. And had it all crooked. The guy with her ordered a 10 and said he’d need a 6 or something? She must have measured him too.

I will take the loop to the store if it does not fit and have them swap. I am sure this going to be status quo for a while as their guidance was not great. If they refuse, will sell the loop. I have other straps I like, and most likely would not use the loop. Reminds me too much of a timex band.

It was crazy!

I measured 8 at home, ordered 8. I feel like it could be half a size smaller. A 7 might be too tight though. While running there was slight movement, so I just moved it up on my wrist half an inch and it didn't move one bit. Overall happy and I love the look and feel.

From what I have seen and experienced, the guide is not accurate. Hopefully, you won’t have to return.

There are a number of things to consider:
1) People cant seem to properly measure using the paper tool no matter how easy it is
2) We never see anyone measure with the paper tool but they claim the tool is wrong (except iJustine and her attempt was just ugly)
3) If there was any scaling when printed the paper tool will not work
4) Apple offered no in between size guidance (go up/go down)

Covid-19 has made watch buying a huge pain because you can't just go into stores and try them on. ALL the Apple Stores in my area are closed (even though the malls they are in are open) still and who knows when they will open again.

I wanted to get the braided solo loop band for my Apple Watch, however, I have a series 3 Apple Watch. I’m wondering if I get the 44mm band, since my watch is a 42mm, if it is compatible with my series 3?

I used their online tool when ordering a watch, went for a size 9 loop. I popped in to my local Apple Store today and bought a size 9 loop in a different colour and its fits great.

They have bands to try-on in store obviously, but they also have “disposable” versions of the paper measuring thing - they have an Apple Watch shape on one end which sticks to your wrist. Sizing on this was just the same for me as the cut-out one from their website.

I just followed the guidance and it come up spot-on.

It will technically fit, but the metal lug pokes out and is visible on series 3 and lower. I have a S2 I tested it on while my S6 is shipping

I used a measuring tape and that calculated to be a 9 -1/2 so I ordered a 10 as I prefer a looser fit. I ended up doing in-store pickup yesterday and used their sizing tool, which also came back 9 - 1/2. I kept the size 10 and I’m very happy with it.

I think I’m going to go to an Apple store and try it on to see if it looks bad or not

Ordered my wife a 3. She sized as a 3 snug, and a loose 4. Originally ordered a 4 and then panic changed it to a 3. She now has a braided loop and it fits snug on her wrist. I measured twice on my wife, but knowing that it can always stretch I went for the smaller of the two. She’s happy as can be now. Make sure when you’re sizing with the strip to close the strip without a finger between the strip and your wrist to ensure you get the tightest fit.

FWIW the braided solo loop is as comfortable as I hoped it would be and its nice having another strap I can use with a laptop without any worry about the clasp scratching the surface.

Measured as a size 6 at home and it was a little too loose when I received the band. Got a size 5 instead and it is perfect. Got the regular Solo Loop. I'd definitely recommend getting a size down from what you measure. At least for the regular Solo Loop. Can't speak for braided.

I measured between 4 and 5 with the paper and chose 4 (solo loop). It feels like the right fit. Very slightly loose compared what I normally wear. A 38mm S/M sport band on the 40mm watch at pin 4 for a perfect fit. Pin 3 is a tight uncomfortable fit.

Gives me hope.

I was a bit skeptical of the overall sizing chart (and still dont’ have my band) but here is how I approached tracking down what I hope to be the best fit.

I cut out the sizing chart print out, the key areas to cut accurately are the top of the large mock watch head and the bottom of the straight flat band area. really just to two parallel Lines are the key measurement points.

then, I took one of my fluorlastimer bands from a sport and a nike watch (of course anyone who is new to an Apple Watch won’t have these) and noted where I wore them regularly. Which notch. I do shift on the Nike bands between the 4th and 5th depending on if I’m working out or not (and if i’m using a forearm HR monitor or not)..

Then I took the bands OFF the watch and connect them as if I had just removed it from the watch. I laid one end of the strap just BELOW the mock watch head on the paper cut out, and let the OTHER end of my connected strap indicate which number would best match my preferred sizing. It was just between a 9 and a 10 so I went with the 9.

As I said above, don’t have the band yet but once I do I’ll report back. Since I bought a “my style” combo with the Blue AW and the yellow solid loop, hopefully, if it needs to go up or down a size it won’t require the whole kit to be returned and replace. I know I’ll be keeping the watch for sure.

So can we just return the band or does the whole watch need to be returned like last year?

My wrist measures 17cm and i ordered a size 7. With the silicon sports loop, I use the M/L band on the second hole
You’re just like me, my wrist measures 17 cm and I wear M/L sport band on second hole. How loose do you feel the size 7 solo loop vs the sport band?

After sleeping with the watch on with a braided solo loop it settled into a nice fit. I followed the sizing guide closely. At first i thought it was too tight, this morning its perfect. I was hoping apple did their homework and it appears to have paid off on sizing...

I'm wondering the same thing... I think, since watch and band come in separate packaging, it should be possible to exchange the band only...

Then again: I have no benchmark experience from last year...

Second hole means second smallest one?
On my Series 3 42mm I use the 3rd widest hole in the S/M-sport band... 16.5cm wrist size...
second hole means the second closest to the watch when wearing the watch with the sport band. (i.e., the second smallest possible size for the sport band).

I think it depends on where you fall on their sizing chart (precisely on one value or in-between)and how you like to wear your watch. I did the measurement in store with their adhesive measure band and got a 7 precisely on the dot. That band gives me a bit of play, i.e. I can slide one finger under it, but it does not move around on my wrist.

For blood oxygen measurement I have to move the band slightly upwards on the wrist to make it extra tight, but I would not want to wear it that way.

Hence, from my side the measurement worked and I got the right size.

In case anyone was wondering, the solo loop works for the Series 3. Keep in mind the sizing is made for the series 4 or newer so the case size of the smaller series 3 will make the fit a juuussst a tad tighter. The measure tool had me smack in the middle of size 6 and it fits me perfectly.
Thanks for the report! I knew Apple’s statement that the solo loop was only compatible with series 4 and later was not 100% accurate. It just had to be possible to attach a solo loop to a series 3 or even the earlier models since the clasp mechanism is still the same.
