The range looks like Scott Forstall accidentally vomited over a Jony Ive oil painting.

The whole launch has been a masterclass in incompetence.

Firstly launching when everyone knew you had run into supply problems, then leaving the Series 6 online instead of the 7 well after launch. I wonder if said supply problems were actually pre launch feedback and insider protests over the colour schemes.

Secondly those pathetic colours, cynical incompatibility, deliberately unattractive options in the aluminium finish and mismatching combinations.

Instead of being able to look through the often incongruous options ahead of the sale window, being forced to wade through the mess and find something both remotely palatable and available when promised proved beyond my willingness to compromise.

Wanted to upgrade my SpaceGrey S6 but don‘t like the Midnight color option. And paying double the price just to get the Titanium that looks quite similar to SpaceGrey - at least from a certain distance - is something I‘m not willing to do right now. Hopefully they will correct this next year!

For those people saying ‘it’s only $400’ / ‘it’s not a car’, etc; it’s a watch!! $400 is a lot of money for a watch.

Rewind 10 years and if you were spending that on a watch you’d be wanting to keep it for life.

I find it baffling that there’s no grey/black/silver. I’m not spending more than that, given that they upgrade them almost yearly. I think they’ve really messed up here and lost some trust.

I wanted to replace my series 4 watch this year – only aluminium in my country – but dislike all the colors, so maybe next year. I really hope they will offer silver/black aluminium next year.

I also wanted to buy a silver iPad mini 6 to replace my old space gray iPad mini. Since starlight, pink and purple imho are horrible colors, I picked space black again. Are women the main target group for those new mini's?

I've checked out starlight in an Apple Store, it's really bad.

I like the green option and I got it with the Abyss blue. I think it’s a nice earthy combo which I like. Would have probably waited until next year but my series 6 broke.
Also, my series 6 was the blue option and unless it was under direct light, it looked black. I imagine the midnight option in the AW7 is the same, but much “blacker” even in direct light. Very subtle blue….
Was begin to wonder is I was the only one who opted for the green over midnight did the standard blue sports band as well. Kind of hoping I don’t regret the decision.

Edit: Upgrading from a space gray series 4 I’ve had since 2018.

You can only order the graphite stainless steel with a blue band or a milanese loop?! I just wanted the black solo loop. I wish Apple would just sell the watch on it's own and let you buy the band separately. I'd be fine just using my old band until supply constraints ease up and I can get the band I want.
Same problem here! Was all set to order silver stainless steel but have no interest in the bands it was paired with so I’m waiting.

These other people are going to hate buying a new car. Wait until they see that if they don't charge you more for the paint they require an upgrade package to change the color.

Yes, another reason to always buy a used car :) There's some justification for a car in that different paints may have different costs or require different preparation/application, but the cost differences for something watch sized must be minuscule

My advice would be to either buy the S6 (very similar to the S7) or wait until used stainless steel versions come on the market

As a woman, I much prefer those kinds of colors to black. What's wrong with targeting colors to women? I find black a wretched color in devices.

I love the starlight watch color and plan to get one when supply evens out a bit. I've had a rose gold one for the past four years and wasn't keen on any of the recent color options. Starlight is enough to be different for me to be a fresh change but still feminine.

I was ready to pull trigger on 2 watches, but with no silver for me and black color for the wife, will likely keep our old models. We will have to visit a store and see them in person and maybe change our minds. But maybe not.

It’s like a car company no longer offering black and white on it’s base models. It’s just not done…

You can order it however you want in design studio section if app.

I always buy the SS every year but was considering a switch to Aluminum this round - because the resale value of SS really sucks. However, I don’t like any of the new colors in Aluminum. I prob keep my SS S6 graphite for another year.

This makes switching to silver as a no brainer for someone with 100 OEM Apple Watch bands. No other color now will match every single band. The old silver aluminum went pretty well with everything. No longer. That’s fine, I deserve SS anyway.

Wait a minute -- are you suggesting Apple is designing the product lines to encourage upgrades to more expensive models?

No way..
Apple never does things so blatantly designed for increasing profits...
:D ;)

In the past, they made the more expensive options more gaudy or crazy looking. Now the cheap options are weird and the more expensive options are compatible with more clothing options. Which, I think strengthens the point the guy you were replying to made. For those of us for whom a cheap apple watch was not over budget, but an expensive one is, we're now upset our watch will be expensive as all get out but look like junk.

It’s about time those truly loyal to apple received SOME style benefit. Too long have all the apple bandwagoners who don’t know what Apple’s history was before the iPod been riding the coattails of those who have been with Apple all along. Enjoy your aluminum champagne or blueblack! I’ll be rocking that mirror finish, because I’m tired of looking like the rest of everyone who only liked Apple when it became obvious to.

According to the digital color meter used on the marketing photos, the midnight is a very de-saturated aqua blue. But the center of the digital crown is slightly purple.
To me they all appear slightly purple, although the "midnight" band next to the "midnight" watch are obviously different hues, which is what I'm concerned about. According to the digital color meter, the band is less green than the watch, which is equal red and green which is probably why it appears more purple (more red) than the watch. I verified my nightshift is off. Maybe it's just my display, maybe the colors aren't truly equal. But maybe I can paint it a good color and find an after-market band at BestBuy in a good color for $30.

The bottom line is anodizing aluminum involves certain chemical processes, none of which produce very attractive colors. Argon plasma blue, now there's a blue! but you can't build watch cases from argon plasma. And if everyone wants basic black, well, they found a way to charge us extra for the colors we want more.
