According to the digital color meter used on the marketing photos, the midnight is a very de-saturated aqua blue. But the center of the digital crown is slightly purple.
To me they all appear slightly purple, although the "midnight" band next to the "midnight" watch are obviously different hues, which is what I'm concerned about. According to the digital color meter, the band is less green than the watch, which is equal red and green which is probably why it appears more purple (more red) than the watch. I verified my nightshift is off. Maybe it's just my display, maybe the colors aren't truly equal. But maybe I can paint it a good color and find an after-market band at BestBuy in a good color for $30.

The things some people obsess about. Just buy a Rolex like a normal person if you wanna brag about your watch.

Yeah, their colors are all off this year. Apple really needs to work on coordinating across product lines. It shouldn’t be that hard to get a green that matches across iPad, Apple Watch, and iPhone. I’m not even talking about the device, I’m just talking about accessories!

There are many many countries outside the US where Apple is only selling the aluminium watches.
And of course the outrage is focused not on the lack of colors but rather the inability to buy the colors that are available elsewhere. They must be furious at their government for not providing incentives to Apple to bring those colors to their country and not with Apple because at least they made them.

1st statement is true but overstated. 2nd statement is wrong. Not that Apple of the last 20 years had a lot of colors, especially not the last 10 years under Jony Ive and no Steve Jobs. But the space gray wasn't always exactly the same between the iPads and the iPhones and the MBPs.
I’d have to agree with your second point. I wouldn’t say that Apple has gotten sloppier in the last 20 years more akin to the early days, I just think it’s a much more complicated landscape now compared to then. That doesn’t excuse the clear mismatch in color, that’s a big oversight, but I still think Apple is moving in good directions.

And yea with regard to color, how many variants of space gray are there alone? Download the app Bandbreite and look through how many variations of color we’ve released in bands year over year; Apple isn’t the best with colors or names haha

Not everyone is “hating” when they express displeasure or lament. The interwebs have devalued the meaning of hate to a ridiculous degree.

For me, I was going to buy my wife a “black/dark gray” S7 because that’s what she wanted to replace her S3. But now because we don’t know what the colors look like in person, we need to visit and Apple store once they arrive, and then decide if buying one is even an option.

I was also looking at a silver S7 to replace my S4, but probably will wait until next year.

By removing those basic options they have created hesitant loyal customers who may skip the updates they were planning.

Reminds me of the 70s with green, beige, mustard and brown appliances that turned off lots of customers.

how is this goldish? are people colorblind or something?

I'm not surprised that the gold color is only available on the stainless steel models, seems like a clever move on Apple's part to make it seem even more fancy and exclusive. 🧐

If only other responses were as well-reasoned and free of sky-is-falling and other race-to-the-bottom juvenile burns as yours.

As an aside, I suspect introducing new colors was well-researched and likely chosen to reach customers who are looking for a little more pizazz regarding color. I think they're all great. My dilemma is choosing the "right" one.

True. But there are some people who like silver things no matter what the trendy colors are. And others who prefer dark colors devoid of hue.

My guess is starlight is very similar to white gold, which is fine. My wife and I have WG wedding bands.

But no matter what the current trend, car companies always sell white and black cars. And bath fixtures are always offered in chrome. Locksets always offered in polished brass.

Metal watches are always offered in silver color, be it titanium or stainless or white gold. Sport watches are always offered in black or silver. That’s over a century of history for a reason.

I may just get my wife an SE instead. She doesn’t care about always on watchface or blood sugar. So we save $120…

Let’s hope they go back to a true dark blue for Series 8. This muted blue looks stupid, and I wish Apple would get over its fear of striking color choices. Everyone loved the deep green iPhone 11, yet we haven’t seen that color since. Why? The blue Series 6 sold like gangbusters, so what does Apple do? They F with the shade because Apple can’t help itself. I wish Apple would just do like car companies in regards to color: stock some popular primaries and give buyers the option to wait a month on special order limited colors. I flew out of state to purchase the truck color i wanted, so it’s not like waiting a month or so for the perfect shade of blue would be that big of a deal.

I have a series 6 in Product(RED) and I was really hoping to get a green 7 with the same hue as the red, but this year, the green hue is much, much darker. I went with the blue instead, though it won't arrive for another 3 weeks. My S6 will be replaced with AppleCare right before I leave for my Appalachian Trail thru hike [the battery is dying, but at the current rate, it will not be covered under warranty until a week or 2 before I leave].

Everything about the S7 launch feels off - heck, has Apple ever had such a color issue with its products before? It's like the color teams didn't communicate during the last year...

I‘ve just now realized that Apple also stopped selling the black Solo Loop and black Sports Band. At least with the watch itself you can get upsold to Watch Edition for the matt colors dark grey and silver. But if they don’t offer any black silicon bands anymore, my S6 might be my first and last Apple Watch.
