Ha! I just edited that post to show you the Midnight and Black colors side by side. Even with no flashlight, you can clearly see the blue tint to the Midnight.

I can't see a difference other than midnight is lighter. People don't all have the same eyesight and color interpretation, there is no such thing as "clearly" when it comes to color.

Before the announcement, I was about to update my AW 4 but I'll stick with it for another year. I wanted silver again, that weird Starlight gold/silver mix doesn't do it for me and neither all the other strange colors. I also skipped the new iPhone, not a good year for updates so far, good for my wallet, I guess.

Honestly, I can't. I see blue in the spotlight but not in the side by side images. All I see is gray.

Well, I sure can on my monitor. Trust me, it's blue. If you see it in person, you'd immediately be able to tell upon examining it. Obviously not a vibrant blue (thus the name "Midnight"), but still blue nevertheless.

EDIT @4jasontv :
I've superimposed a square filled with "Space Gray" (hex code 535150) over that picture so you can see the difference.

EDIT 2. Here are some photos comparing the Midnight phone case to my Space Gray AW in natural/outdoor light:

What? Why? I am so on the fence to changing my order to gold. Why did you hate it?

I didn’t like the way it looked with a lot of band configurations they I have or would wear.

With space gray of the past or midnight now. I felt for Milanese loop or link type bands that both black and silver worked. Looked off on gold to me.

aside from that I just got tired of seeing the gold case. Tried to put a skin on it which worked for a bit.

just personal preference thing

1. I can't compare anything because you made them full resolution and they take up more than my desktop can show.
2. There can be different shades of the same color. They don't have to be identical and still be called the same color.

2.) They are not called the same color. One is midnight, and one is space gray. There can absolutely be different shades of the same color. Midnight is not identical to space gray and has blue in it, which makes it clash with black bands. Hence this whole discussion.

You saying it looks gray to you over and over does not make it less blue or make it coordinate with black bands the way space gray did.

Reasonable if you're Apple's CEO, CFO, or marketing team certainly. For most other people, removing neutral from a base product for the first time is not reasonable.
These other people are going to hate buying a new car. Wait until they see that if they don't charge you more for the paint they require an upgrade package to change the color.

This midnight debate is the latest craze. It probably will look different to every person who looks at it and also will depend on the lighting of the room and the angle.

But space gray didn't "match" black bands either. I don't see it clashing more. They didn't match and now they don't match in a different way. I don't see blue, but you do. That's fine. We both agree, I think, that neither bands matched either body.

Supply chains are stressed and on the verge of imploding. And here we are complaining about the color of a product that will be disposed of in a few years. Humans are terrible.

I agree - but - if we are worried about supply chains, should Apple not have made this a "two colors" year to ease that burden a bit?

The mega corp has chosen to try to make this "as normal a year as possible", supply chain be damned.
Maybe we should hold them to account a bit as well?

Could have done some things differently (like skip a year on a few things), but we all know why they don't do that.

Money.

That's fair. I purchased an aftermarket Milanese loop for my series 4 but never wore it because I have trouble swapping out the bands and I regularly get blood on it and the sport band is much easier to clean.

The reflection of the gold is my biggest reservation over going with the titanium black or just keeping my aluminum preorder.

most of the band color choices were not available to continue ordering anyway this morning.

Looking at Apples site it looks almost dark blue. But it could also be black.
Based on review unit reports - Midnight is a dark gray with a slight bluish tint. That is often called Navy Blue in clothing though Navy Blue can be a little lighter or darker depending on the product. Midnight seems to be on the darker side.

Starlight is a warmer silver. It has a subtle warn tint (hint of yellow/pink) but in most lights it looks like silver.

With the subtle colors this year, you might want to wait until they are in the stores and then go pick one up there. Keep in mind that the lighting in Apple stores is fairly “warm” and the colors may look a little different outdoors.
