I'm not quite sure the issue here. I can definitely understand why people aren't happy if there is a consistent silver and black (or 'space grey') option across devices. As for the other colours, you're NEVER going to have a constant palette across all devices, otherwise Apple would end up having devices available in literally HUNDREDS of different colours! The vast majority of ppl aren't the money-no-object/waste-is-no-object type of ppl who replace all their products every few years. should Apple just stick with e same colours fro all products permanently?

Let's bear in mind that this Apple Watch 7 is just Plan B. The real Apple Watch 8 had production issues and was scrapped at the last minute. So therefore they might not have had enough time to do a proper color coding.

Definitely not. Aluminum has no space-grey, CMIIW

LOL! Gold is too expensive! I mean... it is a precious metal... geezus... my only problem is the lack of coordination amongst their product lines. They should really line up their product line colors together for those who want all the same color that year.

Also looks like you can no longer order any of the edition watches with sport loops — slightly pushing up the price.

I ordered a Space black titanium 45. I have my own bands, so which band it came with was immaterial. (though mine will come with the Tornado gray sports loop)

I wish they had an option to order without any band, because the band can delay your watch, not the watch itself.

The fact that colors and hues are different across products lines is an embarrassment.

This is not what the Apple of the past 20 years was about. I feel like we’ve gotten closer and closer to the sloppy Apple from the 90s.
But why would colours be the same across product lines? Serious question. Virtually NO-ONE is going to buy a new watch/iPhone/iPad/iMac etc each year therefore unless you think Apple should FOREVER have the same colours, this argument makes no sense. why do ppl have to have everything matching?!?

sure this is first world problems, but the reality is that I'm in market for this watch, but the color options are giving me pause. I just want a basic neutral color that can look business-y or sporty, and I don't want to spent $800 on it. Honestly, I'm now thinking just an SE is the way to go for the next 1-2 years.

Well, for me personally, I don't care that they match, I jhust prefer darker neutral colors - black, gray.

Yea I edited my post — the oddities are around for example the plain stainless (which I normally get) isn't available with any of the sport bands or loops... just the solo loop. But the gold stainless can be purchased with the sport loop, making it $50 cheaper... It's about time they offered it without a band, but I think they know many people would just buy $5 amazon bands for their $399 watch.

This article started off a little whiney to me but reading about the fragmentation between colors across the product lineup makes more sense. Maybe they’ll work to tighten that up. Although maybe customers like choice too…. Dunno.

I personally only like the Nike watch faces which has always limited my options to aluminum. Typically I go with Space Gray since it matches my bands the best. But of course the Series 7 adds further limitation to Midnight (which is a deep navy color) or Starlight (which is a pearl-like silver color). So now my options are to either buy a Series 6 Nike Space Gray or just wait it out another year. I already skipped the 6 last year. Honestly, if I could get the Nike watch face with the stainless space black color that would be what I really want but I just don't ever see that happening.

I hate to say it, but I think silver and space gray were probably axed so people who want a neutral color will move up to the stainless model. Midnight is definitely navy blue. See the midnight Nike paired with the black sport loop:

It’s so weird how their default configuration for the Nike models is Midnight paired with black bands. Horrible look, dark dark navy on black.

Oh I totally get that, I'm the same. I think a standard silver and black/space grey would ideally always ben an option for all devices. Other than that though I'm entirely happy for apple to refresh their colours each year, that's part of what makes them look more interesting. Case in point, this year is actually the first year I've actually contemplated buying an Apple Watch precisely because I like the look of the green one in their marketing material.

Don't most people wind up with a mixture of years across their devices anyway? This years watch, last years phone etc? The only people helped by matching colours within a year would be those buying everything. Basically, it's a pointless pursuit.

Why is this even "news"? If you don't like it, don't buy it... but don't waste our time with useless articles. BTW, if you want another article, I don't like the packaging of the bread in the grocery stories... news at 10p.

Just use the "Create your own style" option..... I did and bought the 45mm SS/S with Abyss Blue Sport Loop.

But space gray didn't "match" black bands either. I don't see it clashing more. They didn't match and now they don't match in a different way. I don't see blue, but you do. That's fine. We both agree, I think, that neither bands matched either body.
I specifically and purposefully did not say “match.” I said “clash” and ”coordinate.” Gray and black do not clash whereas navy and black do.
