Are there any good things about Catalina at all? Seems to be constant problems for people.

I remember not being impressed by the keynote part as well.

I have all my family on the latest version of Mojave. What is annoying is how hard Apple is pushing Catalina - ie - in the form of an 'update' in system preferences where you can not clear the notification, rather than a new OS in the Apps store which it was previously shown as. Have had several clients accidentally upgrade to Catalina, despite being told not to, due to the way that Apple is pushing this update.

Sooner or later, hopefully sooner, Apple may see a drop in sales due to this Catalina mess getting publicity, and do something about it.
I've been watching these forums long enough to never having a thought about touching Catalina.
Lots of naysayers will say why not upgrade, and move along with progress.
Well, have fun you guys, sweating with your fixes.
Mojave does all I really need smoothly and safely, and I don't have to waste time and effort coping with Apple's failed QC, and the neat Catalina "new things".
My huge iTunes and Photo libraries are safe and everything works just fine.
The forums will tell me when it might be safe to upgrade.
36 years with Apple have taught patience and skepticism since Jobs' ideas and quality went away.
Too late to teach an old dog new tricks such as ditching Apple? ;)

There is the occasional feature I like (Some of the new photo features and the TV app is nice), but the slowness and instability has driven me up the wall. As have some of the smaller changes.

Syncing and managing iOS devices in the finder SUCKS compared to the old iTunes method. Want to skip the backing up process because you're in a hurry and just want to sync the device? No can do. Want to see the status of the syncing process beyond a simple circle progress navigator? No Can Do. Want to see speed etc/status of an iOS update package download? No can do. Then there are the other annoyances: Want to airdrop with an older Mac? No can do. Want to quickly check find my friends in the notification centre? No sorry Apple removed the widget.

Since the update I am not getting flickers on my LG external monitor connected to a MB Pro. Never had this issue before, and it has only started since the update. So, hoping a software fix will eliminate this... It's annoying.

I had this problems also on my MBP15 2018 - deactivating power nab helped to get rid of the crashes during sleep ☺
I thought that fixed it for me until I put my external SSD with a thunderbolt to USB-C adapter, and next day it happened again. Power nap works only with no external devices connected for me

I've had a similar issue with an external monitor. Maybe 1 in 20 times the Mac KPs, but other times it will not connect to an external monitor until it's rebooted.

I've had this issue too. 2016 13" MBP, running in closed clamshell mode through a TB3 doc into an external monitor. Since I've upgraded, I can't wake the laptop (using external magic kb/trackpad), monitor doesn't register. I open the laptop and laptop screen works, and when I go to display settings, it actually shows both laptop screen / external monitor settings, but only restarting will let me use the monitor again.

I just had my first total crash in months, while running Final Cut Pro and Quicktime, not doing anything very processor-intensive. Bummer. Hopefully this gets fixed soon.

There’s a command line command you can use on a Mojave machine to ignore all Catalina updates. Search for “macos stop catalina update reminder” and there’s a MacWorld article about it. It’s more than this, but it has to do with this command: sudo softwareupdate --ignore "macOS Catalina"

Set it on all my family’s Macs and now we only hear about Mojave security updates.

I've had issues with the browser taking a while to respond. Not a huge deal. Just annoying.
I have experimenting multiples crashes more specifically on Keynote 12.0 and Mac OS 10.15.4
Anyone else?

I need to upgrade my two old 27" 2012 iMacs to the latest version, but the reliable old crocs on Mojave will have to do until I can buy a new one with an OS that works, maybe never. My families' 6 iPads and five iPods all working fine with Mojave and IOS/iPad OS 13.3 and staying there for now. No more new Apple hardware unless the QC situation gets fixed.

Since the update my time machine backups to my NAS gets at least 1 warning about failing a day. It works most the day.

Also since the update my bluetooth keyboard takes a lot longer to connect from sleep than before.

There are two components to producing great software. A writer and an editor. Apple appears to be missing editors.

What does an editor do?

A book editor makes certain that the author is:

- Actually saying what the author intended to say.
- Writing is logical, easy to understand.
- Writing is accurate
- Writing is concise

Software editors make certain that:

- Software accomplishes what the author promised.
- Software is logical, easy to use
- Reliable
- Minimal use of system resources

Software editors is what Apple appears to be lacking. The job of a software editor requires lots of hands on testing to ensure quality at every level. Computerized checking is nice but it cannot do what a human can, use the software.

-----------------

MacOS 10.15.3 introduced unrequested apps open by themselves.

Reopen windows when logging on is off. Login items user account is empty. Yet periodically several apps that I used the day before will open up when I turn on the computer.

Several friends have the same issue. Critical? No certainly irritating. Shows a lack of attention to detail on the Mac platform.

"...During Large File Transfers"

Noooooooo.

You're using your Macs in a wrong way, you're not supposed to transfer files between drives, uncle Tim wants you to buy the 2TB iCloud Storage Plan. /s

It's been (like said previously) going on for months - I guess now it's got to 10.15.4 people are finally making the switch and they are finding out the hard-way that Apple, despite being made aware of the problem haven't bothered to fix it.

How about hanging on shutdown? Every. Single. Time. Late 2012 iMac i7 w/ Fusion drive. It's been flawless for 8 years until I installed 10.15.4. Now I have to force it to shut off by holding the power button down. I hate doing that! Apple please fix ASAP.

Add to that, overheating issues on the MacBook Pro 16-inch when is connected to an external monitor, fans running at 5500 RPM like crazy, cracking sound issues and some other stuff.

Yesterday I did something I haven't done in 15 years of using macOS, having used every major release and patch release. I've downgraded my MBA '13 to Mojave. It became unusable with Catalina. The process sucks, I'm still reinstalling and configuring stuff but I guess it's worth it. Since 10.15.4 it couldn't even wakeup without crashing, last week I got a full system freeze when I was just editing a document and this weekend I had a kernel panic. SSD is fine, I've ran memtest for hours, there nothing wrong with this Macbook. I've been running 10.15 since it came out and it's by far the worst macOS release ever. Lion and Yosemite were heaven compared to Catalina.
if you don’t do fresh install of MacOS, it may help to check /System/Library/Extensions/ maybe you got there some old kexts. Catalina keeps locking down system and some old apps are not used to it.
I would expect that old kexts are bigger problem then old apps and they are harder to find.

Crap. I literally just upgraded my 2012 Mac Mini to Catalina. I figured it was safe to do so by now. :(

Start voting with your wallets..... no expenditures on Apple products and services going forward.

Please, no whining, groaning, snivelling or outrage such as .... "But I am so deep into the ecosystem"..... "I am trapped in the ecosystem"..... "How can I live and function in my social circle if i stop using iMessage?.... "I have sunk so much money in Apple suff, I can't switch now".... and on and on.

You have done this to yourselves. Tim did not come to your house and take your wallet. Although, some of you (perhaps not ones in this thread) said "Take my money now!!" every time a new product/service was mentioned.

Face facts and reality and change your purchasing behaviour now...
