Bro its got a web browser... I don't even use Spotify cause that's just the cheap version of Apple Music. Also Facebook, Netflix, Youtube? I got a web browsers. I don't install those apps on my Mac. And this headset is more like a Mac than any of Apples other products .
False. Nonsense. This product is literally an iPad. It is absolutely positively nothing like a Mac. Where do you even get this ridiculously false idea from?

We are starting to see some see-through TV's come to market slowly using tech that might eventually be in glasses 10 years or so from now.
Transparent TV tech is not at all relevant to see-through AR.
To focus on a screen an inch from your eyes, you'd need a lens in front of it to adjust the focus... but then you couldn't focus on the environment behind the screen.
See-through AR devices reflect light from a source that isn't directly in front of your eyes.

Pretty sure this is directed at me, and yeah, I’m looking into it.

PSA: Xanax is very easily abused and misuse can lead to overdose and death. Don’t take it without a prescription and definitely don’t ever take it without consulting a doctor first who knows all the other drugs you’re taking.
nope, not you.

Apple’s VR is dead on arrival.

This is a result of Apple’s poor relationship with app developers and competitors.

As we have now seen all the major companies Apple desperately needs are not only not developing for Vision Pro but are yanking their iPad versions from being compatible too.

I suspect their behaviour with the 27% third party app store fee this week has been the straw that broke the camels back.

Downvote me all you want but these are facts… they have no interest at all supporting Apple’s entry into another new category and continuing their market dominance and for once Apple needs them more than they need Apple.

Apple are screwed.

This did age bad real quick

Most developers couldn’t even get a loaner device to build their apps on, so it’s no wonder that there aren’t a lot of 3rd party apps out there. I doubt they would want to build apps on a device that doesn’t exist yet. When this first batch of AVPs are released, you’ll start to see more and more apps come out.

It really isn't. It is based off of iOS, not macOS...it has more in common with the iPhone.

Sorry but calling a tech product entering a new space that will evolve for decades DOA without watching AVP and its tech space for a few years is ABSURD. Especially withy AVP not even on the street yet is even more absurd.

I agree. This is closer to MacOS than iPadOS and even that has been gaining features.

170,000 pre-orders is absolutely terrible, what the heck are you talking about?
Not really, it’s only about 2/3 of what the original iPad sold day one, and that also included three weeks of pre-orders.
And of course, started at about 1/7 the cost, even with inflation.
The original iPhone was right in between the two.

And of course, the Vision Pro is only counting pre-orders, not people who just buy it in the store.

So shockingly, it’s selling about in line with the original iPhone and iPad, which were also US only launches.

This is obviously at the minimum viable product stage, like the Apple Watch 0 or OG iPad. You have to start somewhere. When it inevitably gets to the chunky Ray-Bans stage, and much cheaper, that's when sales have the potential to be big....and I dread that day. Society is bad enough now with phone zombies everywhere, can only imagine how bad it will be when there's a critical mass of people wearing these or another company's equivalent. And will people be less anxious and happier? Don't be ridiculous lol! They'll have even more neuroses, anxiety and fomo than currently. I found it ironic how much time Apple spent discussing mental health in the same event as the AVP. Less screentime is the answer, not more.

At this point, only three groups should buy this first version;

1 People who can monetise it eg YouTube blah blah
2 Devs
3 The wealthy to whom a few thousand dollars doesn't make a blind bit of difference. It's not a matter of not being able to afford it - I could buy several, but only because I have savings. It would be a deeply unwise purchase even if I was interested as it will be obsolete in record time, and it takes me a not insignificant amount of effort to earn that money. And, honestly, I believe it will be in the cupboard within a month or two for a lot of people, brought out occasionally when some new feature is introduced, or to demo to friends and family. I honestly feel sorry for people who scrape together money to buy this, or heaven forbid buy it on credit

This is a fantasy. The success of those products has created a completely different market potential for future Apple products. The market is completely different from when those products launched. There weren't 2 billion active Apple ecosystem customers at that time to potentially sell to. No, those products built that market over many years.

170,000 pre-order units for a $3,500 product after 7 months of preparation is likely showing us just how much interest there is. A huge chunk of those who are seriously considering it have ordered it. Apple will be lucky to break 300,000 units for the year, which is far lower than even the most pessimistic estimates, ranging from 500,000 to 2 million.

Maybe, but I honestly didn’t think they would sell anywhere close to even 100,000 in the first week let alone the first weekend pre-order.
And there’s still almost 2 weeks to go until official launch.
Even if they sell at minimum only another 50,000 units, that’s still over 200,000 pre-orders for a product that again is limited to one country and way out of price range for the majority.
We’re still talking about a launch that in terms of pure units sold is close to rivaling the original iPhone.
And again, limited to one country.
That is insane.

Great to know! Whichever way they end up doing it, I’d think it would need to be in the shape similar to glasses for it to hit mass appeal.

The gleeful disdain some people exhibit toward the AVP is so strange to me.
And even if you were right and the product were to fall away or not go anywhere, I just don't understand the person who feels motivated to crap all over something a lot of people are excited about.
It’s not strange: the biggest detractors are likely those who would want a device but are upset it is expensive, making it unobtainable for them.

The rest are armchair engineers who seem to have all the answers yet strangely have never tried to create solutions themselves.

Let’s jus see how the VP pans out: it’s not like the other multinationals have some how revolutionized VR outside of perhaps catering to some specific audiences like gamers.

Maybe the VP will bring that extra special Apple sauce (see what I did there?) that lifts VR into that ‘actually useful for productivity or other things beyond gaming’ place and maybe it won’t, either way, the fact they are at least trying and it’s interesting.

Another way to look at it: if Apple, with their trillions, cannot make VR more than just another, more expensive Meta Quest clone then maybe it says something about VR and how the state of technology at large is maybe not there yet to make it work…

Now start mashing the dislike button because I called out the many lurking haters 😃

We see it very differently. IMO the "170,000 pre-order units for a $3,500 product" that you are dissing is pretty darn good. 170,000 buyers are each willing to drop $3,500 for a pig in a poke. Whole new thing and none of those buyers have even touched one; that does show us just how much interest there is. A lot.
