Pulled the trigger again to try the apple watch for the 2nd time i returned the first time i ordered again I ordered the SS space black model I didn't get a chance to turn it on yet but as soon as opening up the box there was black smudge looking stuff on the white box and heavy dust sitting on the screen of the watch when removing the plastic wrapping I'm worried it might have been a returned watch and sent to me? Any ideas ? Also, the crown feels very sticky and slow when scrolling it. This can't be normal.

The crown shouldn't be sticky - marginal resistance, but should feel smooth.

That there was dust / smudges inside the box doesn't bode well. Can't imagine Apple selling an open box item as new - maybe someone at the plant/warehouse messed up? My understanding, all returns are taken apart and used for warranty replacements (provided they pass testing / inspection).

I'd get on the horn with Applecare and get that replaced. Hopefully your replacement ships as quick as that one did.

I have had a 42mm SS Milanese since April 24th. I'm tempted now to try the SB SS Link. Not sure the wife will bite or that I want/need 2 of these things. I love the Milanese but it does loosen slightly at times for me. Obviously I could get a different band or just the regular SS Link, but the SB appeals to me...

@randy98mtu

Running two different watches seems to be a bit of a faff, it's obviously not something Apple anticipated a high demand for.

I really like my SB watch, and the best thing about it (compared to other Apple Watch options) is how it looks with the screen off. Naturally the screen is off most of the time, and considering the Watch as a piece of jewellery the all-black construction (screen, surround, body and band) is what I personally find most aesthetically pleasing. Other people will obviously have different opinions. :)

Bear in mind that (IMO) there are really only 3 bands the work with the Space Black (the SB link, the black Sport Band and the Black Leather Loop) and if you are OK with that as a set of options to work with then you are good to go...

...today. :) (remember those bands from Milan will eventually (likely) see the light of day).

Also, the 3rd party bands will become more plentiful. I really think my SB will look nice with one of these as a two-piece zulu strap (coming in August):

I might just buy a couple of their two-piece with PVD now - then get additional black adapters as soon as they're available (with their 25% off sale, that's too cheap to ignore) :)

I dunno, I like the blue sports band, might pick up the white too. Not sure. Might get the blue leather band for my birthday this fall as well.

Hey Scoob, go over to clockwork synergy and check out their bands - they have leather as well. And, I didn't realize, that they already have the black adapters!! :D

So, I just ordered the navy blue and black nylon straps. :) (the 25% off sale is over today).

I dont know why but i just dont like any of the leather straps ive seen. They all look cheap? I do like the black link attachment they have though. Saw a few on Ebay too. Still dont think id trust my $1000 watch to those tiny tiny screws they put in them.

Heh. Apple's adapters use those tiny little screws too. :) If you put anything other than the sport band or leather loop on there, you're going to be using something similar.

Now, I'd be putting blue loctite on them, so they don't come undone. http://www.loctiteproducts.com/p/10/15/t_lkr_blue/overview/Loctite-Threadlocker-Blue-242.htm

I was so close to joining you guys, i took a trip to Chicago this past weekend and while i was there i checked the reservation status of the 42mm space black and they actually had one at an apple store an hour and a half away. i reserved it and headed that way. got there and the apple salesperson was surprised they had one, he looked at me funny when i told him what i was there for. long story short, he couldn't get the watch to scan, it wasn't in the system whatsoever. nothing would pop up for an sku when scanned. so i left empty handed :/

Dood, buy one online. I ordered one, and it shipped the next day. Way better than messing with an 3 hr round trip to be empty handed.

but if I bring in a SB link band thats come apart, they're replace it and the possibly shattered watch. Ebay, not so much.
I'll have to ask the clockworksynergy guys if they're actually getting the adapters from Apple or not. If they are, then Apple would have to stand behind them.

Edit: Jeff said that the adapters they have are certified to meet all of the specs that Apple has published, but aren't from Apple (he hasn't seen those available from Apple yet).

He suggested you could wait a bit to make sure there aren't problems reported if you're not comfortable with 3rd party adapters yet.

For those of you getting a Black Sport Band for the Space Black watch, are you going for the stainless buckle hook or the Space Grey buckle hook they also sell (that is paired with the sport watch of the same color)? I'm not sure which would look best?

I went with the black buckle and it looks great as the stud shines through the strap.

On other matters I'm having mine replaced as my link strap has a discolouration flaw in one of the non-removable links. Great service from Apple so far though - with having AppleCare+ they are sending a new one out and doing a courier swap.

I have a couple of hairline scratches(?) by the mic/speaker. I'm really not sure how they got there. They're really hard to see, I only saw them because I just happened to take my watch off in the right lighting, so it's not a big deal. Anyone else notice anything like this?

Heh, I keep looking because I'm paranoid, but nothing yet. I just switched to the sport band from the link after about 3 weeks of usage. Gotta say I find the link a more comfortable band than the sport...my skin doesn't breathe well under the sport - so it tends to be a little sweaty. I ordered two nylon bands from clockworksynergy as well for day to day use. Figure I'll keep the link for dressier occasions, provided a find a daily band that's really comfortable.

I'll likely keep the sport for doing stuff that it may get dirty - landscaping, drywalling, etc.

I tend to be more careful with the watch when wearing the link....don't want it getting marked up. But, the novelty hasn't worn off yet. :)

Thanks, I think I'll go for the black buckle too. The stainless buckle might pop too much against all the other black.

I'm sorry to hear of the discoloration flaw. Was it like that from day one or did it develop over time? Make sure your new bracelet has a good clasp, I've seen a couple that do not lock correctly. Good luck! :)

Decided to get the SB SS Apple Watch. Ordered one today and is already prepared to ship stage.

Same here, got replacement for defective one. It now shipped once again from China, they will almost certainly both (yours and mine) arrive on Monday.

Tomorrow I go back to the Apple Store to pick up my second replacement band. Both of the first two wore out in exactly the same place at the side of the links that face down when I work at my desk. The second band showed wear after only a couple of hours work.
Apple are replacing it for free but I'm extremely disappointed. Can only wear the good band on weekends and if I forget to change it I can't wear it at all during work for fear it will happen again. Epic fail on a $1500 watch.
