I assume in the store they were able to replace just the band or did you ship back the whole watch?Tomorrow I go back to the Apple Store to pick up my second replacement band. Both of the first two wore out in exactly the same place at the side of the links that face down when I work at my desk. The second band showed wear after only a couple of hours work.
Apple are replacing it for free but I'm extremely disappointed. Can only wear the good band on weekends and if I forget to change it I can't wear it at all during work for fear it will happen again. Epic fail on a $1500 watch.

hi whilst i was very excited to have received my 42 m sssb it went back last month after a week due to black coating coming of and at £945 i was not happy , still after a week and a bit they sent me a new watch , had that 13 days now , rang apple yesterday as coating is yet again coming of round strap , the thing is i only work at home and twice a day take the dog for a walk , i didn't ware it washing car or doing house work so i don't get why this has happened , and a few months down the line it will look **** , so today ups collected it , and a refund will follow , not getting another not worth the hastle .
76 TA?Huh. Couldn't do this when I asked about 2 weeks ago.
Where was the coating coming off at? I have not seen this yet but keep reading it's happening to people. Sorry to hear this. I totally agree you made the smart move. Now I'm worried about mine.
You have to be hitting that on something... maybe you don't notice it, or it's something you're so used to doing that it's ignored, but there's no way that's happening from just daily wear. Especially being your second watch. Keyboard typing, hitting door borders, resting on tables/counters... something.
I finally put a black sports band on my Space Black. I really like it. I got the one with the Space Grey pin and although it is not advertised as such, the space grey stainless pin looks like a version of DLC to me.
It's much lighter, which has one drawback, I am more likely to forget I am wearing a watch, so hopefully it doesn't make me hit the case on something.
I like the sports band because at least don't have to worry about damaging the link bracelet. However, at the same time, it seems a bit silly to have paid for the nice bracelet with the watch and not actually use it.
I feel a bit like I'm wearing the Space Grey Sport watch with the sport band on it, since I have family with that watch, so I know it well. Nevertheless, it's a comfortable day to day look. I really love the sport bands, it's a shame the black one wants to show those wear marks, but at least they tend not be visible.
I'm going to pick up a dark blue / navy sport band as soon as they come out with one.
Wow, that looks like you took a belt sander to it! I've had mine since 5/19 and I don't have a single mark or area where the coating has come off. That's obviously one of the few that got through with a poor quality DLC job. I can't imagine that Apple wouldn't replace it, unless you have been abusing it.View attachment 574377 I have had my SBSS since the first ones were shipped. My link bracelet is losing the coating. I have attached the picture. Anyone else seeing it this bad? Will they replace my band if I take it to Apple? It doesn't seem as though it should be simply rubbing off like this.
