Right, couldn't tell if he got that or space gray aluminum with BSB. Many people casually call SG "black."

Some members are even of the opinion that they've ditched the DLC for Series 2 because Apple is no longer advertising it. I have my doubt because they're still selling for the same premium over SS.
How much is the premium?

In the UK Stainless Steel and Space Black are priced exactly the same, even if you add the Milanese Loop band.

Interesting. In the US, the SB Milanese loop model carries a $50 premium and the SB link bracelet model carries a $100 premium. Only the SB with the Sport band is priced exactly the same as its SS counterpart.

If the Sports Band is priced the same as SS, it suggests the watch costs the same to produce.

Does that mean that Apple managed to reduce the cost of DLC in production or that Apple ditched DLC altogether, we don't know. We can only guess based on the fact that the mention was removed for Series 2...

They've been priced the same since the refresh of the AW1 collection so not necessarily. They may have deliberately priced them the same despite it being more expensive to manufacture because it's the base SB model and they hope more customers will purchase it and eventually the more expensive (matching) bands later on.

All right, I didn't know.

It makes sense that there is more profit to be made in accessories :p

Hi everyone

I have been extremely happy about my Apple Watch stainless steel, but I've always admired the look of the space black stainless steel. But since I learned that the black colour is only a coating on the steel, I've been afraid how daily wear might show.

So, to you spaceblack owners, how does it look after using it some time? Can you see the steel beneath the coating?
I also presume that polishing is a no go for this one?

I have had zero problems with mine no scratching or chipping at all. I work in an environment where I constantly bang mine from moving around and lifting furniture. I don't even have a case on mine. I hope this gives you some reassurance on the black SS version.

Have owned since day 1 - still looks like new. Have banged it against stuff on many occassions - I'm clumsy...

Had to switch from Space Black Link bracelet to Black sport band, and put watch on right wrist (had issue with it pressing a nerve up against my wrist bone on left wrist). I'm right-handed, and...MAN Oh man, do I bang it against things now, way more than I ever used to--and...it STILL looks brand new...

A search will show many threads about this subject instead of a new thread.

I've got a nasty scratch toward the top of my screen that I have no clue how I got. Other than that, the rest of the watch is pristine.

Anyone have any pictures of the black stainless steel on a regular stainless steel link bracelet? I mistakenly ordered the black stainless steel Series 2 to replace the original regular stainless steel case. Looking for feedback on whether or not the pairing is ridiculous or not.

I received my Series 2 Black today. Sadly, bezel is scratched and silver shiny and you see it whenever you check time. It will have to go back.

You can see the silver underneath the Black?? That rarely happens with the DLC coating -- could it be painted Space Black? I do, of course, realize it's not anodized -- can't anodize stainless steel. Or so I was told in an earlier post.

Well it's just bad finish I guess. Maybe it's a bad finish so the DLC coating doesn't get applied to that area? I have also seen it on the band release buttons on the back of the watches in the past, where the sharp edges turn silver.

Getting my series 2 watch today. The old one will be going up for sale this weekend. I'm hoping to get $425 for it and a flubber band

What are you all using for polish?

If you're getting Space Black Stainless, you would never polish it. The DLC coating is hard to damage and if it did get damaged, there's no fixing it. You just need to wipe off or wash the watch if it gets dirty, gently and dry with a super soft cloth.

Finally decided for the 42mm SS SB (sitting in front of a still closed SS and SS SB because I couldn't decide yet :D). Does anybody of you use it in gym for weight lifting? I'm planning to do so (and running etc.), which made me think about a kind of protector for the SS SB case in this situations (want to take it off as soon as leaving the gym, meaning it shouldn't be too complicated to remove). I'd like to know, if anybody's got a suggestion for a protector, which doesn't scratch the DLC of the SS SB.

I had almost forgot. I recently bought a bunch of Apple's latest released bands, and took pictures for here. I really took pictures in the first place for Space Black owners, so everyone would know how they would look on their watch. Here are the pictures:

I was looking for these pics. of a black SS with a black nylon band. Awesome combo also because the black nylon band has black hardware.

I currently own a Hermes edition but consider adding a AW Series 2. Then for me it makes sense to buy a black SS version, so that i can switch watches. The Hermes with leather straps and the black SS with the rubber- and nylon strap. :)

Any thoughts ?
