That's what exactly happened to my SS link when I purchased for my 42mm SS. Posted some pictures here and people were telling me I was lying and must have rubbed it on concrete or worse. Lol - turned out to be my work desk with a Formica type of top. Any resting on it and sliding at all would cause that rubbing off of the coating.

I sent picture to Apple and they sent me one for free overnight and didn't want the old one back. The new one did the same thing before I realized what caused it. Pretty cheep if you ask me, but it wasn't any real damage.

My desk is Formica too..... and had the same issue !

Ordered a SB SS 42mm AW Series 2 a month ago and it arrived yesterday. I love it and it is a great addition to my original Hermes AW. Wear the black one with rubber and nylon Apple straps, and the Hermes with leather :)

I have a 38mm SB SS and I love it too!! What nylon bands do you have with it? I like the pearl but the black would probably look better no?

Nylon in Black only due to the matching color of the 'adapters'. For Apple Sportband I have black, (got it with AW) Product Red, Blue and Midnight Blue...Oh and a Midnight Blue loop. Don't like the Apple Classic Buckle with the black watch....due to the non-matching adapters....

I just picked up a midnight blue sports band for my SB SS AW2 and IMO, it does not look nearly as good as the black band w the SB Watch. The dark blue and black seem to clash.

subtle, as the white Ceramic with the Cloud Sport Band :)

What's subtle?
The contrast between the watch and the band.

I have the midnight blue as well. Think it looks great with the SB.

Bright colours are great as well, as they really "pop" against the contrast of the black watch - but having a near-black colour is nice. (midnight purple/plum would be nice as well).

While it sounds bad, has anyone tried the cocoa band on the stainless black watch? Again, while it sounds odd, I have found images of watch manufacturers that have pulled off a brown band with a black case.

Hi everyone. Has anyone noticed dents on their watch? I have a series 2 and upon cleaning it tonight there are three or four small dings on it. Not super noticeable but they are there. Is this normal?

Bought my SB SS Series 0 and within about two weeks I had a significant hairline scratch and a small ding. Not sure what I did and really haven't gotten one since but it is natural.
The links were worse. Had two big scratches within the week (no dents though) and opted for a cheaper band for daily wear. The cheaper band has yet to be scratched! It's the OULUOQI link band. Amazing.

In other words, it's normal but it's nonetheless annoying.

Thank you. It's not noticeable unless I'm under a bright light and polishing it which doesn't happen often ;)

Hello guys. I'm a potential Space Black customer. I have a Space Grey Apple Watch Sport and every 3 days or so, the paint chips at the edge of the display. Turns out it's a well known issue and there's no proper fix for it. It's driving me mad and I'm seriously thinking of selling this and buying a Space Black. Does the Space Black have the same problem? I'm assuming they've colored the stainless steel? Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks.

It shouldn't be a problem. That tiny little edge around the display, it's possible you can get one new out of box with tiny little marks, that are like silver instead of black. However, from my experience, you won't cause any yourself, it's only if it is flawed out of the box.

You're talking about the Stainless Steel space black watch right? So the Space Black is colored?

My space grey aluminum Apple Watch had a small blemish right out of the box. It kept growing. Like you said, it was silver instead of black.

I'm talking about the Stainless Black. It has a DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) that gives it that black appearance. It is extremely durable. The only thing is, in manufacturing, the tiny little edge just beyond the screen must be easy for them to nick as I have seen quite a few watches, even non-black versions that have little marks around the screen.

It shouldn't get worse on the DLC Stainless like on the aluminum watch. If you get one really bad out of the box, just try another one.

You should be much more satisfied with the durability.

The longest I had one of the Stainless black watches was 11 months, it still looked like I had taken it out of the box. I had to get replacement because the back fell off the watch.

Thank you! That sounds great. Yeah the Space grey aluminum is horrible. It's chipping from everywhere! I know you can polish the stainless steel Apple Watch. Can you do the same with the Space black?

Nope. If it does get any damage, there is no fixing it. I don't know what kind of activities you use your watch, but the Space Black is truly going to hold up beautifully compared to the other materials. Many in the forums here have reported their Space Blacks staying like new throughout their ownership thus far.

The Space Black link bracelet is another story, people have had some bad luck with those, but the Space Black watch most have had great experiences with.

I still recommend Apple Care in case you ever accidentally cracked the screen or something, you can get an express replacement for cheap right to your door.

Does anyone have a picture of the SBSS with the toasted coffee/caramel Nylon band? I couldn't find any and the next Apple Store is relatively far away from my place.

I am not so sure the AW2 has this DLC coating. Apple removed all references to the DLC coating when the AW2 was introduced. I have the original AW with the DLC coating and just got a new AW in black and hey look very similar but time will tell how it wears.

Has this been confirmed/denied by Apple yet?
