Mine 42mm SS SB Series 2 with Sports band has arrived and it sitting at home waiting for me so tonight I shall be pairing it up with the bands that I have for my SS42 SS Series 2 to see matches best.

The Space Black will be for every day use in the office so I envisage using the black sport band, brown classic buckle and ocean blue nylon

My 42mm SS 2 is a lot blingier so that's will be for weekends only....White sports band and Marine Blue Classic Buckle.

While it sounds bad, has anyone tried the cocoa band on the stainless black watch? Again, while it sounds odd, I have found images of watch manufacturers that have pulled off a brown band with a black case.
I think it looks great. These aren't the greatest photos but maybe it will give you a sense of how it looks.

EDIT: Added another photo in slightly different light

I really like space black with sport band and then bought a separate space black link bracelet. Maybe I will pick up a black Milanese loop as an occasional alternate.

Goes well with my jet black iPhone. Also thinking about getting a space gray sport watch Nike. Though getting a second watch to use is not exactly a high priority for me.

I've had both, there is no way there is anything different about the surfaces on these. The DLC has to be there, there's no other way it would look identical.

Cool, going to pop along to Regent Street to try one on today. I had the SS link bracelet series 0, but the scratches upset my OCD. Will try out some other bands too while I'm there as I don't think I can justify the link bracelet again with these post Brexit prices!

I think you'll be impressed. I'm the same way. I couldn't stand the micro scratches on a regular stainless.

Mine do not look identical.

The DLC is very difficult to compare side by side, the color changes so dramatically depending on the light angle. There could be some variation between units too.

What else would it be if not DLC? If it was a clear coat like Jet Black iPhone you'd be seeing micro scratches in it very quickly.

No one is reporting scratches in the series 2 black. It's surely still DLC.

Just come back and it is really nice! I also tried the ceramic, but can't justify that and not sure white looks great in the finance industry. Think I'll get the SB with sports band for now and then look at possible bands later on.

If it is "surely DLC" why do they not say so. Like I said the DLC was "removed" with all traces from the website.

Perhaps they removed reference due to the wear and tear on the link bracelets?

Hey all! I just picked up a Space Black 42 mm with black sport band. I had been thinking about switching from the aluminum model to this one for a few weeks because I was after something a bit darker than the aluminum space gray.

Out of the box, i'm not that impressed! After taking it home and having it on for a couple of days, it seems extremely reflective, so much so that it's hard to really 'see' how nice it is and actually appears lighter in color in real world use than the space gray aluminum. In the right light, it is very sharp, along with being noticeably heavier. Anyway, i think I may end up returning it and sticking with the Aluminum model. I guess I just like the matte finish better. Maybe my ideal AW would be just an aluminum matte black finish instead of the space gray!

Yes it'd not as impressive as it looks on the apple site. I do like it but I prefer my standard SS series 2. I was planning going to wear the space black at work. Its perfect for that as its not really a dress watch for nights out.

Did you purchase the black stainless Series 2? If so, thoughts on the DLC? I'm still considering one myself.

Yeah I have both SS models. I got the black SS because I thought it would be more durable for every day use. It's quite shiny and i prefer the standard SS and the black is limited in bands that will go with it but as I said the black is an every day watch and it's looks quite Gangsta with a black strap

Thanks. I own the regular stainless and I am
Considering the black stainless.

I have absolutely no idea as to whether its DLC coated. It's very glossy. I would be suprised if Apple changed the manufacturing process to remove the DLC process. That's many not be a cost effective move. Just order the watch and enjoy it. Its an impressive bit of kit

Alrhougj grey is not my fav color this looks very nice.

Might be nice to see it wirh the ceramic Cloud band too :)
Space Black with Cloud band, as requested. Along with my current go-to combos; Edition+Nike and Stainless with Apple Pride band

Guys, my emails to Tim and Phil paid off... got an email back from Stan Ng (stan at apple dot com) and this is what he said...

Hi Karim,

Thanks for reaching out to us about Apple Watch Series 2. The Space Black stainless steel models of Apple Watch Series 2 do have the same DLC coating as the first generation Apple Watch space black models. Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks!

Yeah, i agree. Looks much better in pictures than in person. I returned it after a week. I much prefer the matte finish, just would prefer a darker color. Unfortunately the space black doesn't really look black in person.

Well, here's a crazy one...

With all the great deals on original gen SSSB watches out there, I have ended up with two and trying to decide whether to just keep one and sell the other or keep both. Leaning toward selling one since having two is a little bit overkill and the $$$ would come in handy. One is a 42mm with black sport band and I bough the woven nylon band in black and it is fantastic. The other is a 38mm with black link bracelet and is the sharpest watch I've ever seen. I had been wearing a silver Sport since release day in 42mm so I was well familiar with that size.

I'm a guy, decent build, 5'11" 190mm wrists. I keep reading where people jump to the 42mm quickly but honestly, the 38mm just looks and seems more symmetrical and fits better. I agree the 42mm gives a little more screen size but honestly, it's pretty minimal but the larger model, especially in black, looks huge on the wrist. I actually get more compliments on the 38mm when I wear it either to see clients or in the gym.

I guess my question is whether anyone else has bounced back and forth between sizes and moved to the 38mm from 42mm long term. Also, who thinks it would be perfect if Apple made a 40mm? That would nail the size/functionality thing for me in an instant!
