How strange. I've never seen this before. And I actually have multiple stainless Apple Watch models for comparison, and none of them have what your photograph indicates. Unless there something Apple is doing differently or they changed something in the manufacturing process, I have no idea why it would look the way it does. As small as that whole is, it's actually annoying to see the white versus having it being blacked out or with mesh intact.

If Follow up with Apple on this, please let us know what you find out.

It's ridiculous- both watches were manufactured in 2015 according to the chipmunk serial number website.

Weird. I have models from the first Gen Apple Watch as well and none of them have this. If it were me and it annoyed me truly as a small of a minuscule issue as it is, I would push the envelope with Apple until I knew what it was. Mainly because it just looks unsightly and awkward.

If it bothers you, you could just make a genius appointment and bring both watches in for comparison. See what they say and you never know, maybe they will rectify the situation in some way or another.

I'm just sick of dealing with them. And I hate going to their stores- so chaotic, crammed with people, long waits, hard to examine replaced products because of the lighting. With this issue and so many others, I'm just over it. The quality of their products for me has been awful. I don't care about what the watch'a mic hole looks like- I care about water getting into my watch through that hole, because, don't you think the mesh covering would protect a bit against that?

I'm exhausted trying to get good products from them. I almost wish I could leave Apple at this point, but I have a Mac, Apple Watch, and iPhone, as well as paid purchases and software with them, so I'm stuck. And I haven't had experience with other tech brands in nearly a decade so I have no idea what they are like at this point. I also doubt their products are any better than Apple's.

I can understand your dismay. And from previous threads, I know you have had issues with iPads, etc. Hopefully the Apple Watch doesn't turn out to be an issue for you and good luck.

View attachment 700017 So... the more I thought about it, the more I said, I have AppleCare plus, might as well give an express replacement a shot. Received it this afternoon, and the new one also does not have a black mesh covering- just a plain white hole. What the hell?! They better not charge me for this replacement and determine "there is no issue" once they get my original watch. The person who set this up for me put the reason as "WP4-Sound- Internal Microphone", when I clearly said sound wasn't affected. I guess I will type a note and put it in the package to explain, along with the chat transcript of the conversation I had with the Apple rep. Getting sick of Apple.

Also, now it it's showing AppleCare + for the replacement watch but it does not show it until 2019 (like it is supposed to since I just purchased it recently), just until October 2017. Every minute it's another problem.
My 1st gen space black's mic hole looks like that as well. Haven't had any issues so far with getting the Watch wet or rinsing it under the tap

Hm, could be normal then. I've cooled off a bit since earlier - went out to eat and had lobster. Feel a little better now lol.

So now, I just have to make sure they give me the rest of the AppleCare coverage I bought on the new watch, and return my old watch and hope they don't charge me - they say if you ship back the old product and they can't find the issue you will pay a fee- in this case, more than I paid for the watch. I thought it was an issue since, as you can see, many people replied who did not have the mic like ours. I hope me putting a note in there with the returned watch will be enough to have them give me the benefit of the doubt.

Is this suppose to be annoying issue or. ...a big problem?
No need to get sarcastic about it implying I'm making a mountain out of a molehill. I already said, this doesn't bother me aesthetically. I am not trying to make it into a big deal, but based on what people said and showed, it was not normal and I was afraid that the mesh not being there might compromise the water resistance since, you know, an open hole with no covering doesn't seem very water friendly...which could turn into a big problem.

1) listen here...i aint being sarcastic so you better answer striaght up.
2) i'm curious about this issue.

Nothing wrong with how i write. Based on what you been typing it seems that you are one Having this issue with the watch.

Myrtlebee has had some unfortunate issues with some Apple products lately. I think there is some confusion here. The issue with the microphone was something he noticed and it's not a widespread issue. But none the less, it's annoying he experienced it and he was sharing his experience with others. That's all. We are all just trying to help each other, which is the intention of these forums with discussion.

I appreciate the insight from everyone, but I'm done with the watch. Turns out the replacement watch has a dead pixel. Tired of Apple. I may try another brand of phone too - at this point, it may be worth whatever hassle it will be to switch over. May purchase one iPhone 8 if that doesn't work out to test the waters again, but I'm honestly tired of supporting Apple by rewarding their **** quality and recent lack of innovation with thousands of my dollars over the years. Long time Apple fan, but I've had enough.

Apple quality is top notch, it just seems you had a run of bad luck. I have bought a myriad of Apple products in the last couple of years and never had a single problem. Also, be careful what you wish for. Apple customer service is widely regarded to be the very best. You might be very unpleasantly surprised dealing with other companies' customer service.

I have an Apple Watch Sport and the anodizing is peeling off. Pretty common issue. I also had an iPhone 6s with corrosion, and a retina MacBook Pro with its anti reflective coating peeling off. Apple sure has its quality issues.

Every mass produced product has "quality issues". There is no such thing as 100% perfection there. The question is a) how many issues are there relative to the number of items sold and b) how these issues are adressed by the company. Apple is #1 in both regards.

Anyone have a photo of what the Space Black looks like with the Apricot sport band and "Red" (red-white-yellow stripe) woven nylon band?

Just got a Series 2, Space Black. Don't love the Space Black Milanese (will probably try to sell) but absolutely love the Watch itself, especially on a blue sport band. Amazing technology (if only a 7/10 running watch, I'll make do!).
