The space grey looks absolutely stunning. Images really don't do it justice. As long as you're careful you shouldn't get any scratches on it. If you do happen to get a scratch while being careful, I believe the silver would be damaged just as badly.

I think the argument is that if you have a silver and a SG both with the same exact scratch the SG's scratch will be more noticeable than the scratch on the silver and you'll see the silver underneath since there is more of a contrast so the scratch will be more visible on the SG

After reading this thread and people saying the SG shows more grime, I called and Apple changed my order to Silver. I like the Silver anyways...

I had both side by side in my home, the SG just didn't do it it for me. I settled on Silver too. It's brighter, the keyboard contrasts better. And it just overall looks less drab than the SG, to me. I am sure the SG will sell a lot since it's new and silver has been around for a while, but this silver is better than the old machines and the apple logo looks super cool almost mirror like finish. I think overall silver hides scratches and dirt better as well.

I was a 'silver' fan from the get-go (actually, platinum, but that's not an option), so really thought hard before ordering... space grey. So glad I did. It's bloody gorgeous!!!

I had that exact model in your signature before deciding on the 15". that 13" was pretty bad A... have fun with it!

For me, SG, reasoning is two fold:

1. I personally find the darker color more attractive and masculine
2. Since rMBP TB is the first MBP lineup offering SG, it is more obvious from afar that it's a newer MBP. Most people will miss the Touch Bar and lack of lit Apple, but casual observers will see SG and immediately know it's a newer vintage Mac product. I realize there's some vanity in this reasoning, but it's a difference nonetheless.

As stated, I have both an SG rMacbook 12" and rMBP TB, my wife has a 2015 rMBP 15" in silver, the SG just looks great, I'm sort of tired of aluminum Macbooks, I've had nearly a dozen over the years.

I'm one of those people who never quite got fully on board the change in design language from the first gen MBPs (2006 -> early 2008) to the unibody, specifically this contrast. Those early MBPs still look incredible, and that monochromatic silver/gray thing is a big reason why. It's a big laptop but it didn't look it. In addition to the chiclet keys in the unibodies, the black/silver contrast between the keys/body/screen took alot of criticism. It became iconic but at the time opinion was really split and some had thought Ive lost the plot.

This probably more than anything is the reason I prefer the space grey, it just blends better. On top of the aesthetics there is the utility factor in using this outdoors to reduce glare from the body.

Love my silver still, not regretting it at all! after a week using it, feels like a REALLY nice upgrade from the older 13" rMBP is all I can say,

the mirror apple logo doesn't bother me either, but maybe because I'm jaded now since I had coming up on 2 years to get used to that with rMB

When I saw that most people had chosen space grey, I really had doubts about my order with silver mbp and was near to cancel it. Since I received it, I didn't even once think about it. I just enjoy my awesome machine.

im glad its inconspicuous, I dont really wanna have "unique" conversations at the coffee shop with strangers about my mass manufactured device, I want to just live/ use it :p

Had a space gray 15". Looked tacky next to the silver 2014/15 models I have.

To each their own.

I love my 15" Space Gray and think the color looks great with the keyboard and touch bar. It also matches my Bose radio which is nearby. I don't miss the old Apple logo - it was nice but I never saw it anyway.

Space Gray must not be selling since B&H and Adorama are already discounting only the Space Gray models.

The space gray looked tacky on the 15" I had.

Unfortunate since I like space gray on my phone.

both 13" MacBook Pro w/Touch Bar have a discounted price at B&H Photo at the moment

EDIT: Actually the ones I was speaking to are the 13" non touch bar 2016s

I agree. I was 100% set on silver until I saw it side by side in the store. Walked out with SG.
If you're undecided and haven't seen the new laptops side by side take a look in person before ordering. Photos don't do it justice.

I like how many people thought X and bought Y, or bought X and returned for Y, or Y for X,

apple aint making it easy for the average consumer haha..

because I really dont think you can go too wrong with either option

silver is pretty by the books apple tried and true, and SG is pretty by the books ish with other manufacturers that have a dark option but the apple twist if you want to be optimistic about it

if you have obsessiveness, probably dont get SG just like dont get Jet Black iPhone go matte

if you're tired to death of silver, and that color scheme, probably go SG. it'll then be the SG yolo edition.

I think in that example JB is a lot more extreme, but still applies here, my SG 12" port is worn and its got some more easily visible scratches but I think it adds charm to my ultra portable and wouldn't have it any either way

Its funny because I was the exact opposite lol. I really liked how the Space Grey looked in pictures but in person i just didnt really like it

Today I stopped by the Apple store. Their 24 hour flagship store here in NYC. I finally got to see Space Gray and Silver side by side. I have to say I'm glad I went silver. The amount of fingerprints that were visible on the space gray models was insane. The Silver ones looked a lot better. The silver models looked much cleaner

Which local store was that (City, State)?
there are plenty here in Seattle.. got one at U Village they had plenty on hand..

I saw Space Gray in store - looked to me like a cheap PC laptop. I'm sticking with Silver as its more elegant.
well, to be fair - my son has a asus in silver that looks kind of like the silver too :) just saying -
