"A headphone jack, a charger, a proprietary interface.

A headphone jack, a charger, a proprietary interface!

Are you getting it? These are not three separate ports!"

If you guys go to the spigen website, the have cases for an iPhone 7 plus depicting dual camera lenses and if you look at the bottoms of the cases they show no headphone jack and dual speaker grills...

Someone seems to have hit the post button a bit early lol

See, just what I was expecting. Apple will remove the headphone jack, but will offer an adapter with the phone because everyone still uses the jack. Like what the hell is your problem Apple? And why are the EarPods going to be wired with a lightning cable? I thought the idea was to promote wireless headphones.

But hey, moving forward is important. Doing work properly apparently isn't. Idiots.

Hmmm, I'll have to look into that. A friend of mine complains that when using BT headphones they always cut out when her phone tries to pair to her car. Or her iPhone's pairing with her car is lost when her iPhone tries to pair with her headphones. The latter is probably because she forgets to turn off the headphones, but still, what a mess!
That's a possibility. One thing I do notice is that, occasionally, my BT head phones (plural) will get these skips or drop-outs that go away. Really kills the musical immersion. My hardwired earphones never have this. Hard to reproduce and diagnose. My speculation is that the skips and drop-outs are when it is communicating with the watch. Perhaps it is sun spots or moon sharks. Either way, if this persists for the iP7, I agree it will be 'what a mess!' for Apple as the problem will be magnified by a much larger wireless user base.

The fact you trawled through the posts is kinda sad.

Trust me, they'll win.

Maybe so, but you were just complaining that Apple can't win because everyone always picks on them. I think it's funny that you'll just say anything to defend Apple. It's like they could shoot someone in Time's Square and you would still vote for them, err, wait, I got my cults confused.

It's compelling enough for me. In a couple of years, I expect the people who think Apple shouldn't have done it will be small.

Edit: The NUMBER of people who think Apple shouldn't have done it will be small. And I assume some of those people will be large....
WHAT is compelling enough for you? Shaving off a millimeter of thickness? As far as we know, that's the only improvement.

Waterproofing and a larger battery could have been accomplished without removing the headphone jack.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: this iPhone will be a major upgrade in every way except the externals.

People will complain that it's not been redesigned but outside of that it will be superior to the 6/6s in every way.

It's true. Besides the cosmetics features, there is a whole array of updated features I look forward to. Obviously the major redesign will be in 2017. But I do welcome the new iPhone next week.

Because too many people slate Apple. If you think they can please 1 billion users, then, wow. What planet are you on, Mars?

To charge, or to use my headphones... Ah, the dilemma, brought to you by Apple. Innovation at its' best!
Don't worry, they're be a $39 dongle for that

And whom exactly are they pleasing by removing the headphone jack here?

What's in the box:
  • iPhone 7
  • Lightening Charger
  • Lightening EarPods

Sold separately:
  • AirPods at $129
  • Lightening to 3.5 Audio Jack Connector at $29
How do I know? Because this is Apple. That's what they do.

I think your incorrect. I do believe Apple will provide the adapter.

However, the Bluetooth EarPods will clearly be sold separately.

Wireless is a kind of methodology, it is NOT a standard like the 3.5mm three/four conductor standard followed by the manufacturers that use it.

Wireless could mean Bluetooth (with its different standards), WiFi (with all its different standards/frequencies), 2.4GHz for some wireless keyboard/mouse combinations, or 27MHz for other wireless keyboard/mouse combinations. All these are "wireless" but they are all completely incompatible standards. To say "Wireless is already a standard embraced by everyone" is a misleading statement, it is NOT a standard, it is a methodology with numerous competing and incompatible standards. The 3.5mm audio jack is a true standard that works very well.

Now you're just moving the goalposts, and parsing a strawman -- BT Is an industry wide supported STANDARD. WiFI is an industry wide supported STANDARD. Any modern mobile audio device that people commonly use will have at least BT if not both BT & WiFi, and most, if not all will support a wide variety of legacy BT & Wifi devices.

There's Bluetooth 5, but it's primarily aimed at marketing beacons with an increase in broadcasting capacity. I can't find anything solid on data bandwidth. Plus it's not out until early 2017, which means Apple won't adopt it until 2018 at the earliest.

Apple is a member of the BT SIG. Which means they were intricately involved with its development, and know exactly what the requirements are which need to be implemented. So there's every likelihood that Apple will introduce BT 5 in the iPhone 7 and their new BT wireless headphones. If you have links to something that proves otherwise, I'm happy to take a look.

Here's the thing - if you don't like the headphone jack then right now with your current iPhone you can buy some crappy sounding BT headphones, or some proprietary lightning headphones. Meanwhile the 99.999999% of the rest of us will use wired headphones as they a) sound good, b) don't cost an insane amount, and c) work without batteries.

Options are glorious. Removing options is idiotic, especially when the option you choose to remove will greatly inconvenience virtually your entire user base.

I'd love to see your data that removing the headphone jack will greatly inconvenience the entire iPhone user base.

In the meantime here's mine that Apple is actually inconveniencing a small percentage of the user base who buys the iPhone 7.

Waterproofing and a larger battery could have been accomplished without removing the headphone jack.
We haven't see the teardown, but then again we also haven't seen the actual phone. So we don't know how thin it is, or how the internal space previously occupied by the headphone jack is used. Rumors suggest a larger battery. Apparently not a priority for you, but I find additional battery life compelling, especially when all I have to give up is a headphone I rarely use (and when I do, I can use the included lightning headphones).

Waterproofing CAN be done without removing the headphone jack, but again at the expense of internal space.

I like thinner, too, so you got that one right!

I'm not really giving up anything, so the threshold of "compelling enough" for me is pretty low. I'm looking forward to wireless charging. Then they can get rid of the lightning port also. Maybe a smart connector for physical expansion devices.

And whom exactly are they pleasing by removing the headphone jack here?

Some people don't care and for the people who do, get over it, it's happening. It's an old port, so what? Apple certainly don't care. How are you (we) supposed to move forward if the same technology is used over and over again?

Of course, I'm using it wrong! Gosh, I need to check my Apple Usage Manual at once to make sure I conform.
Or you can spend a few bucks on a pass-through adapter.

The point is, it's an uncommon problem with an easy solution. If you're complaining just because you like complaining, then that's fine. But it's hardly a reason to stop progress

I'm curious to see if they really do provide an adapter, seems very un-Apple like.

After reading this article and seeing the item sheet, I do feel Apple will provide the adapter. The only reason I say this is because this such a major move, this would ease some Of the inconvenience for others.

I'm hoping Apple will make an exception for this situation.

A widely accepted standard that was invented when Noah built the Arc. Dude the fact that you are clearly not an Apple fan and post on an Apple forum to dis their product tells me a lot about you. Why don't you go to an (INSERT YOUR PHONE HERE) website and post positive vibes about a phone you like rather than negative rubbish about a phone you dislike. Try that and see how your life changes. In the meantime, 3.5mm needs to go. It's antiquated analogue tech. Seeya, but I wouldn't want to be ya :D

A widely accepted standard that doesn't need replacing just for the sake of replacing. It was first used by a Sony EFM-117J radio which was released in 1964. That is 52 years of products that now will now be made useless without a dongle. If you can't bash a product made by Apple and see flaws in a product on a site about Apple rumors and discussion about their products where can you?

You know nothing about me so stop trying to say I don't like Apple. I'm a fan of great design and useful technology. I have zero brand allegiance(which more people should try). I try different products and buy what works best for me.

You claim I'm here posting just to be negative about my dislike of Apple. Little do you know that I am currently typing this from an iPhone 6+. I also own an iPad Air2 and a MBPR along with a variety of PC's/Droids. Which I won't bore you with since you are Apple only fan. So no I will not go to another site to post "negative rubbish" which is completely warranted. You can like a brands products but still criticize them.

That sounds about right. Unless they save the 256 GB for the 7 Plus or Pro with the dual camera set up.

At least we are finally away from the 16gb variant.

I'm thinking that 32/128/256 sounds about right as well. At long last, the 16gb is dead! So glad to have 128 in the middle, because that's about what I need, although might bump up to the 256 just in case, especially since file sizes on everything won't be getting any smaller. Also, I can have all of my music ON my phone and can load up as much Apple Music as well.

That's been my thinking too...
But to be fair, pretty much everything Apple is currently doing is un-Apple, so who knows?!
