"A headphone jack, a charger, a proprietary interface.
A headphone jack, a charger, a proprietary interface!
Are you getting it? These are not three separate ports!"
oh i heard you have lightning earphones.
now tell me more about how they are an improvement over standard jack ones.
That's a possibility. One thing I do notice is that, occasionally, my BT head phones (plural) will get these skips or drop-outs that go away. Really kills the musical immersion. My hardwired earphones never have this. Hard to reproduce and diagnose. My speculation is that the skips and drop-outs are when it is communicating with the watch. Perhaps it is sun spots or moon sharks. Either way, if this persists for the iP7, I agree it will be 'what a mess!' for Apple as the problem will be magnified by a much larger wireless user base.Hmmm, I'll have to look into that. A friend of mine complains that when using BT headphones they always cut out when her phone tries to pair to her car. Or her iPhone's pairing with her car is lost when her iPhone tries to pair with her headphones. The latter is probably because she forgets to turn off the headphones, but still, what a mess!
The fact you trawled through the posts is kinda sad.
Trust me, they'll win.
WHAT is compelling enough for you? Shaving off a millimeter of thickness? As far as we know, that's the only improvement. It's compelling enough for me. In a couple of years, I expect the people who think Apple shouldn't have done it will be small.
Edit: The NUMBER of people who think Apple shouldn't have done it will be small. And I assume some of those people will be large....
I've said it before and I'll say it again: this iPhone will be a major upgrade in every way except the externals.
People will complain that it's not been redesigned but outside of that it will be superior to the 6/6s in every way.

Maybe so, but you were just complaining that Apple can't win because everyone always picks on them. I think it's funny that you'll just say anything to defend Apple. It's like they could shoot someone in Time's Square and you would still vote for them, err, wait, I got my cults confused.
Don't worry, they're be a $39 dongle for thatTo charge, or to use my headphones... Ah, the dilemma, brought to you by Apple. Innovation at its' best!
And whom exactly are they pleasing by removing the headphone jack here?Because too many people slate Apple. If you think they can please 1 billion users, then, wow. What planet are you on, Mars?
What's in the box:
- iPhone 7
- Lightening Charger
- Lightening EarPods
Sold separately:
How do I know? Because this is Apple. That's what they do.
- AirPods at $129
- Lightening to 3.5 Audio Jack Connector at $29
If by "we will see in a week" you mean "Nearly every iPhone 7 rumor we've heard about thus far being confirmed", then you're right! We will see in a week!We will see in a week.
It looks like they just did. Look at the photo again.
Wireless is a kind of methodology, it is NOT a standard like the 3.5mm three/four conductor standard followed by the manufacturers that use it.
Wireless could mean Bluetooth (with its different standards), WiFi (with all its different standards/frequencies), 2.4GHz for some wireless keyboard/mouse combinations, or 27MHz for other wireless keyboard/mouse combinations. All these are "wireless" but they are all completely incompatible standards. To say "Wireless is already a standard embraced by everyone" is a misleading statement, it is NOT a standard, it is a methodology with numerous competing and incompatible standards. The 3.5mm audio jack is a true standard that works very well.
There's Bluetooth 5, but it's primarily aimed at marketing beacons with an increase in broadcasting capacity. I can't find anything solid on data bandwidth. Plus it's not out until early 2017, which means Apple won't adopt it until 2018 at the earliest.
Here's the thing - if you don't like the headphone jack then right now with your current iPhone you can buy some crappy sounding BT headphones, or some proprietary lightning headphones. Meanwhile the 99.999999% of the rest of us will use wired headphones as they a) sound good, b) don't cost an insane amount, and c) work without batteries.
Options are glorious. Removing options is idiotic, especially when the option you choose to remove will greatly inconvenience virtually your entire user base.
We haven't see the teardown, but then again we also haven't seen the actual phone. So we don't know how thin it is, or how the internal space previously occupied by the headphone jack is used. Rumors suggest a larger battery. Apparently not a priority for you, but I find additional battery life compelling, especially when all I have to give up is a headphone I rarely use (and when I do, I can use the included lightning headphones).WHAT is compelling enough for you? Shaving off a millimeter of thickness? As far as we know, that's the only improvement.
Waterproofing and a larger battery could have been accomplished without removing the headphone jack.
And whom exactly are they pleasing by removing the headphone jack here?
Or you can spend a few bucks on a pass-through adapter.Of course, I'm using it wrong! Gosh, I need to check my Apple Usage Manual at once to make sure I conform.
I'm curious to see if they really do provide an adapter, seems very un-Apple like.
A widely accepted standard that was invented when Noah built the Arc. Dude the fact that you are clearly not an Apple fan and post on an Apple forum to dis their product tells me a lot about you. Why don't you go to an (INSERT YOUR PHONE HERE) website and post positive vibes about a phone you like rather than negative rubbish about a phone you dislike. Try that and see how your life changes. In the meantime, 3.5mm needs to go. It's antiquated analogue tech. Seeya, but I wouldn't want to be ya![]()
That sounds about right. Unless they save the 256 GB for the 7 Plus or Pro with the dual camera set up.
At least we are finally away from the 16gb variant.
That's been my thinking too...I'm curious to see if they really do provide an adapter, seems very un-Apple like.
