A widely accepted standard that was invented when Noah built the Arc. Dude the fact that you are clearly not an Apple fan and post on an Apple forum to dis their product tells me a lot about you. Why don't you go to an (INSERT YOUR PHONE HERE) website and post positive vibes about a phone you like rather than negative rubbish about a phone you dislike. Try that and see how your life changes. In the meantime, 3.5mm needs to go. It's antiquated analogue tech. Seeya, but I wouldn't want to be ya :D

Wow, what an apologist.

Surprise, digital audio needs to be converted to analog for us to listen to it, your ears are analog, unless you plan on getting biometrical ears... That has to be one of the most ignorant statements ever.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough...

If my BT headphones run out of juice I can switch to wired option on my BT headphones (no power required). These headphones have both BT and a 3.5mm jack. I could also use the spare earbuds that I carry.

So, If they remove the lightening jack I won't be able to charge my phone while using wired option on my BT headphones or my spare earbuds. This is really a pain for those that travel a lot.

Does that clear it up?

Got it. That's pretty cool. Didn't know there were hybrid 'phones. Who makes yours?

To charge, or to use my headphones... Ah, the dilemma, brought to you by Apple. Innovation at its' best!

Don't worry, without a doubt Apple (or third party) will release some sort of dongle which will allow to charge and listen music at the same time. Now that is some mind blowing innovation... and hey, think about all those pretty dongles hanging from your phone. Thats some next level design right there.

They love a good licensing fee cash grab Apple don't they? Remember the rumours about USB 3.0 ports on the iPad Pro? Then it shipped with the proprietary smart connector instead.

Shame really it may have even been taken seriously as a PC replacement if they had included industry standard ports. Not as if the smart connector has actually taken off is it? Has anybody apart from Logitech even bothered with it?

Sadly I can see them getting their way with this anti consumer BS and a nice little third party earner in lightning headphones springing up.

More importantly, it even mentions lightning to 3.5mm included in the box. I think it's excellent for users if Apple does include it, but I think it's a mistake for Apple as it shows there's a need for 3.5mm still and they've removed it.
There is no "need" for 3.5mm but there is still a "use" for it since they are just about to get rid of that jack and most people own 3.5mm headphones.
Pretty logic.

it puzzles me they call it iPhone 7, when its basically same design?

Ever heard of the iPad? 2, 3, 4?

See, just what I was expecting. Apple will remove the headphone jack, but will offer an adapter with the phone because everyone still uses the jack. Like what the hell is your problem Apple? And why are the EarPods going to be wired with a lightning cable? I thought the idea was to promote wireless headphones.

But hey, moving forward is important. Doing work properly apparently isn't. Idiots.
you just nailed it.

so much rush to remove the jack for no tangible advantage. they should have done it only once they were willing (read: not that greedy) to offer wireless 'phones in the box!
this, this is just meh, we do it but we're not really convinced ourselves of why we're doing it.

From Apple?
No. But do you think they do it once and get it right the first time in every language? Guess where all of the product printing is being done?

The wording isn't what matters anyway. What matters is what it says. We'll see how right it is soon enough.

There's plenty of future even at today's quality levels. People aren't as bothered by quality sound or image as you might expect, which is why most people are still happy watching DVD's and listening to 128kbps MP3 files.
aptX supports bitrates up to 352 Kbps which means that a 320 Kbps MP3 file doesn't have to be converted down in Kbps, aka no loss from the MP3 file.

AAC (which is the only codec over Bluetooth iPhones suppert) only supports about 250 Kbps which means that an MP3 file of 320 Kbps will be converted to 250 Kbps AAC, which then gives even more compression to the already compressed 320 Kbps MP3 file.

This is why so many peoples likes aptX over AAC.

So again, there is absolutely no future for Bluetooth sound in the iPhones if Apple doesn't want to use better codecs in their iPhones.

The reason Apple doesn't use the aptX codec is because of licence fee for using it. And you know, Apple needs to maximize their profits to an insane level, so **** usefull functions, right?

A photo claiming to show a specification sheet for a 256GB-capacity iPhone 7 Plus has been circulating online today.

Originally posted on Chinese microblogging site Weibo, the image is just the latest in a series of pictures of potentially dubious authenticity given how easy it is to digitally alter them.

iphone-7-earpods.jpg

The photo in question appears to be of Hong Kong origin, and claims to show the inclusion of Lightning-equipped wired EarPods and a Lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter in the box.

Those details square with the widely held belief that Apple's upcoming iPhone 7 and 7 Plus won't have a headphone jack, and will instead rely on an all-in-one Lightning port for charging, listening, and connectivity.

Yesterday, Apple added a 2TB storage tier to its iCloud service, which could be tied to the impending launch of a larger capacity handset or improvements to phone camera quality. Also yesterday, Apple was granted EAEC certificates for "AirPods" - wireless in-ear headphones which may be sold separately as accessories.

With just a week to go before Apple's September 7 media event, leaks and rumors of varying quality will undoubtedly continue to emerge at an increasing pace. Pre-orders for the new iPhones are expected to begin on September 9 with a potential launch of September 16 or September 23.

Sure hope the Lightning wired EarPods and Lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter have a pass-through for charging... Use the earphones mostly in bed, with the phone on charge..

Yeah, I could go wireless, and I have.. multiple attempts.. they all sound like CRAP.

Never mind needing to remember to carry an adaptor in order to use my phone+Etymotics in noisy environments .. crap.. May be the first time I don't replace my phone after 2 years.. The more I think about it, the more of a deal breaker this BS is..

When was the last time anyone charged their phone and used headphones simultaneously?
Yeah...
Thats what I thought...
On a long haul plane trip, in bed.

I do this everyday. Yes not a common use case but something I do and yes for me a deal breaker unless the battery lasts several days.

Holly cow. They have included it all. Damage control in advance.
Not really damage control unless you can charge your phone and use the earbuds at the same time... I suppose some 3rd party will make that adaptor and charge $49 for it.. sigh

I've got a 22400mAh Anker power pack for just those types of journeys.
So now you have to carry around a big power bank just to be able to listen to music while traveling. Sounds like a genious idea .

EDIT: Or wait a sec. It'a not like you can use the Lightning to 3.5mm minijack adapter with the 3.5 mm headphones if you have to use the power bank via the Lightning port though, so that doesn't really work.

Maybe your mind is already blown if you didn't think of this simple solution:

Apple includes one new charging cable in the box and the problem is solved. Go figure.

Yeah, because dongles is what the users really want for a smartphone. Wasn't Apple about simplicity and that?

If by "we will see in a week" you mean "Nearly every iPhone 7 rumor we've heard about thus far being confirmed", then you're right! We will see in a week!

Not the removal one 3.5mm, the bundled accessories.

that just looks tacky and awful, not to mention cumbersome.

Yeah...
Thats what I thought...

Since about 2007.... Every iPhone I have owned with the exception of the 6plus.

Are you suggesting iPhone have had enough battery life to last a whole day (if you actually used one), since the early models?

My routine was to get to work and plug it into a charging cable .

This would be a non issue as you say if iPhones were renowned for having all day batteries. Though one cannot have thinness and excellent battery life. Also not an issue for those that dont use their phones often...

I've also often plugged the phone to get charged in the car and used the headphones to make phone calls...

Or you can spend a few bucks on a pass-through adapter.

The point is, it's an uncommon problem with an easy solution. If you're complaining just because you like complaining, then that's fine. But it's hardly a reason to stop progress

Adaptors and dongles are the very definition of stupidity for a mobile device.
