I just called my local store. She confirmed over the phone that she has three 64G space grey 8+. WTF?! Why do I bother preordering if they are going to send phones to the store and not fill the pre-orders first?

FU Sprint!

Called my local store, transcript below:

me: (explains situation)

sprint: yes, we have received plenty of iPhone 8 and 8 plus today. But you have to call in to sprint to cancel your pre-order first. we cannot help you with that.

me: do you have the models I preordered?

sprint: we can't say over the phone, you have to come into the store to see.

me: but I am not going to cancel my pre-order, which you said you can't do, unless you have the models I pre-ordered.

sprint: (dead silence at the realization of their catch-22)

me: hangs up
Stores can’t cancel preorders. Have to call for that. That is true. It’s a different system they use. But they can tell you what they have in the store. They are just being lazy

And just a heads up, you can't cancel over the phone either depending on where your order is. My order is "in the warehouse" so they can't cancel it. I was in the store with the phone in front of me.

I'm never preordering again.

They are not letting me cancel my pre-order. The fun begins!

What explanation did they give you? The reps were told before their shift not to advise customers to cancel and pick up in store, so I'm curious if there's a consistent reasoning behind it.
[doublepost=1506097588][/doublepost]There's one plane coming in at around 2pm and nothing else until tonight. Lets see how this goes...

So I preordered in store as I've done the previous 3 launches and this will be the first time I don't get my phone on launch day. I just called the store and was told it wasn't there and they'd already received their shipment for the day. She told me to keep calling back to check, which makes me question whether she actually looked. Oh well, it won't kill me not to have it today. I just love getting new gadgets!

That's happened to me before. They sometimes get a second shipment around this time. Last year I called around 3PM and they had mine.

Yeah I'm just gonna try later on to see if it's there. Last year I got tracking info (sometimes I get it, other times I don't) and it showed delivered at about 10am but I got no call. I called at 3ish and they were like yep it's here. Completely unbothered! LOL

I still have nothing showing up other than "pending" and nothing using my reference number for tracking, kind of a bummer. This is the first time I've pre-ordered that I haven't gotten the phone on release day. (First time I've done a preorder with sprint..so I guess I've learned my lesson)

Trying to be patient and stop obsessively checking reference number tracking haha

Welcome to Sprint. I've preordered with Sprint twice and now have yet to get a phone on launch day, even though both preorders were placed as soon as they became available. Their system clearly is terrible.

Believe me, I understand! To be honest I haven't had a bad experience preordering with Sprint. I won't even say it's bad this but I will say there's absolutely no consistency. One year I'll get tracking and the next I won't. One year I'll get a call and I won't at other times, so I never know exactly what will happen. I didn't get tracking this year so I called and was told it wasn't there. Maybe that's why.

The person who invented tracking is a horrible, horrible individual!!!

Edit: I gotta add...all of my preorders have been in store. I've never called or done an online preorder. My store experiences have been pretty easy.

Totally sucks man.

I DM'ed Marci and she had someone from Exec Relations call me. They are literally tied up and down the chain from releasing any more info on dates for specific orders than simply saying it will ship between 9/20 and 10/7. They determined the model of giving an estimated date if you ordered within certain windows (before 7am on 9/15, etc) caused more confusion and frustration as it all comes down to when they get the inventory from Apple. Some models came over earlier than others and they do prioritize a couple thousand units for stores which I understand. Preorders do ship first, but regional considerations are made in terms of shipping and in the end it comes down to which models and colors they get access to from Apple. I heard Virgin Mobile is not getting ANY iPhone 8's until 9/29 from Apple.

All phones bought from Sprint are locked to Sprint. They don't sell unlocked devices. Only Verizon due to some lawsuit or something awhile back sell their iPhones unlocked.
Yes, but is it locked appon arrival or does it lock as soon as you activate it?

I read something that if you pop a Verizon sim in first before your Sprint sim you can prevent it from locking to Sprint.

I'm not sure if thats true so I'm trying to find out.

So after being on the phone for over an hour, going back and forth with them telling me they might not be able to cancel the order etc. " it could be on the truck right now" and a bunch more answers like that they FINALLY let me cancel. Walked into the sprint store, waited in line of about 6 people ahead of me for iphones, successfully got my phone.

It sucks that we have to do all of this just to get some solid info. This makes sense and while I'm frustrated that I wasn't allowed to cancel, at least I know there's some kind of method to the madness.

Whatever. I just know next time I'm lining up and taking the day off when I really want a day 1 phone.

Thanks for taking it all the way up the food chain.

I cancelled my preorder this morning and went into the Sprint store to upgrade 8+ 64GB in SG. Cancelling was a BEAST. The rep insisted on walking me through cancelling it myself because he said they couldn’t do it on their end, but I didn’t have the option to cancel my order. We went around and around with him reading me prompts and me telling him we had already done that step. Eventually he transferred me to someone else and they cancelled my order super easy. I walked right into the sprint store and got my iPhone. In and out in 20 minutes. Never again will I preorder.
