Heh. You'll have yours before I. :)

iPhone.Freak just said on the other thread that there's going to be some stock in the US and some that would have flown in separate, so it does sound like there could have been some assembly, or at least some shuffling of stock around the country before the PFS notifications went out.

Hopefully that bodes well for the 38mm guys and all of us here. :)

Sadly I have a June delivery... :/

Which lines up with the idea that April 24th was just a "soft launch" for a majority Watch models and that this week is the "hard/real launch" where at least one of every model will have shipped out. Since they are waiting for a critical mass of Link bracelet watches before shipping them out. Otherwise we would have heard about a trickle of deliveries by now.

Has Apple been doing shipments during the week? It seems like the big days are Sunday's and Monday's.

Quick question...

Hey guys.
Just wanted to know if anyone is aware of the colour change in the SS Space Black Link colour.

The images have all been replaced with a much darker case. Without any word from Apple themselves stating the colour change... maybe its just better photos to show a more accurate reflection of the colour? Or could this be a more sinister change and is attributed to the reason why our watches haven't shipped.

Anyone know any more info?

And I'm a month later. :) I'm hoping Apple gets in front of things this month and shortens everyone's window.

People where talking about this before and I say BS. I asked them to provide specifics on what pics were changed where and proof that it had been done.

The videos / pics we've seen (and what people have said), the body of the watch is a dark, glossy black. But, if you look at the ones in the display case, they look like gunmetal. (like a charcoal grey).

I attribute that to the lighting in the display case, but it's also possible that the display units were from a very early DLC run, before Apple got the process finalized.

In any case. The watches people have done try-on's with look great. I guarantee you Apple's perfected the DLC process, or they would have pushed our watches back. Ours are shipping the same window as the SS LB, so there's no "DLC gate".

The Space Black watches in September were definitely lighter in color than the ones shown in March, and what looks to be the final version. It was like the first thing I noticed after the March event. I don't think that's delayed production at all, but they are darker now, which I love.

As far as I'm concerned, the Apple Watch does not officially launch until we receive the one true version to rule them all, the SS Space Black Link. Everything else is just background noise. Thus, we are not late to the party because the party does not begin until we arrive. Apple understands that we SSSBL buyers are the true diehards and so is going for perfection. Stay focused my friends, our long journey is coming to an end soon.

Possibly the greatest post in the thread that sums up a lot of our feelings w/o that earlier drivel of calling everyone else 'peasants' which was class-less.

I can only imagine that a lot of us here at least remember the transition from OS9 to OS X and Apple Talk and played around with a Newton @ Sears or Circuit City but never bought one, that thought the dalmatian iMac was dumb but really wanted that TiBook. We want the best Apple has but we're also 'normal people' and an Edition is just not attainable at our sub, 6-figures salaries....just like most of us don't have that maxed out Mac Pro.

I see the space black both as a 'best of the non gold apple watch' and a small way to stand out as someone who believes this is a device I'll wear every day and the quality of the DLC, Sapphire, Steel and other materials will last me a bit longer than the other models.

Great post! so well written.

It's nice being here with all of you sharing in the waiting game. Long after the watches ship, I'll certainly appreciate the 100+ pages we'll share together. Ignoring a few jerk-offs, it's been a quality waiting thread

True. And Apple *did* change the appearance of the renderings of that product on their website. They recognized it enough to bother to make a change. I may have said this earlier, but what I wonder currently is if the display case version matches the product for sale.

Beyond just this variant, you really need to see something like this in the flesh to determine what works for you. Camera focal lengths, product weight, lighting conditions. It's as tricky as ordering clothes online.

this is a great article to read a-z while we wait for our watches to arrive

http://www.imore.com/apple-watch-and-durability

I linked to it about 40 pages ago and it goes into DLC process and much more metal aspects. it also makes you appreciate the space black far more than any other style apple is making.

That's a great article, though I don't think the image above the Space Black section is indeed Space Black. The crown is (to me) clearly plain steel. The shadow makes it initially appear to be SB.

There are a lot of great search engine results detailing this DLC process that I had otherwise never heard of.

Annoyed at the apparent darker color

I'm one of the few here who's annoyed at the Space Black color presumably getting darker. And this coming from a post-punk/post-goth who still wears plenty of black.

I found the gunmetal grey shade of Space Black featured in the original website images (and at my local Apple Store here in LA) to be perfect. Not too bright like the regular SS, but not too dark so its details disappear into inky blackness.

Oh well. First world problem. Still can't wait.

Shipped!!!!

My card was charged this morning and a few hours later I was notified it was shipped out today via overnight shipping!

Well, I can say this much, before pre-order on the 8th April I took a screenshot of the SS Link on the Apple Store App and the SS Space Black Link on the Apple Store App to compare side be side because I was unsure which to get. Just took another screenshot of the SS Space Black Link and compared it side by side to the one I took on April 8th and they are 100% identical.

So the image on the Apple Store App has NOT been changed since April 8th. ;):)

Yeah that one looked super black. I initially aimed at Milanese loop, space gray sport, and modern buckle. Not even sure why I tried on a link at the last moment. Looked very nice in steel and then even better in black as I walked out past the display. I don't go for heavy watches ever, but the tech innards at least gave an excuse for its weight. And it looked so god damn good!

I don't buy the "lighting" excuse. I've seen the a couple of the display case models and some were WAY lighter color than the current pictures show. It was NOT due to the lighting in the case. They were clearly from an early batch and not even close to the inky dark black seen in the images and videos on Apple's site. When I first saw it, I thought it was some new model of a different color. It was that jarringly different.

I've seen ones in the case that were the correct color and have seen other photos of display case models that looked right as well.

Stainless Steel Space Black Shipping Status

I was really hoping to have some sort of change today. I expect it any day now but still.... nothing. Looks like we may end up with delivery mid or late into the date range but I'd love to be proven wrong.

I've seen the display models in a couple of LA Apple Stores a few times, and I'm remain unconvinced that difference between gunmetal and black between different views can be attributed to lighting; I think they're just earlier builds that didn't get the same anodization/DLC treatment that production watches are getting. The watches in the last pictures in this collection are jet black, not just dark. Ditto for these pictures.
