This thread has deteriorated into a debate on the blackness of the Space Black watch? Really?

I guess it distracts everyone.

iCLuique may be first!!!

they are already at XX:18 for the ss watches with the link bracelet!
So it seems, that when the charging and preparing for shipment begins it will be a good surprise for a lot of people!

I hope that's true but the added processes the Black Links go through will probably mean a slower throughput...but then again, if the ratio of SS Link orders to SB Link order is proportional to the time required, then your speculation may ring true. I've got a :02 Space Black order but I'm still hoping they fill as many orders as possible, even after mine :D

Yea when I saw the shades of black argument I realized the train had gone completely off the rails. It makes me sad in pants that XX:18 Silver SS are shipping. Does anyone know what time iClique ordered?

EDIT: I poked around and found that iClique ordered at XX:03.

FML, the Green Sports Band I ordered my girlfriend 10 days after the SB just showed up on my credit card and I thought it was my Space Black for a second. Ugh. It had a shipping window that started the 14th, a day after my Space Black...

lol, you're right. However to be honest, I know a lot of people (myself included) preferred the gunmetal kind of finish. However, the clue is in the name SPACE black.

Space is pure black, so the darker black is more inline with the actual name of the colour. Also, regardless of how light or dark the blackness is, it's still better than the super shiney SS in my opinion.

I have a feeling we won't be seeing movement until June. :(

Then I probably won't see movement till Christmas :). I ordered at XX:18 from the employee store and was quoted "June". Honestly I only ordered SS SB because of the employee discount, but I wish I'd just ordered a sport watch. I was hoping to use the watch on an upcoming trip /cry

Do we have any numbers on the amount of Space Black orders?

it would be interesting if it was low enough that apple decided to stockpile the ready watches so they could just send every space black at once

I do remember reading somewhere that it was about 3% of all orders. Some analysts predicted Apple sold 2.3 million in the first weekend, so 3% of 2.3 million is about 69,000 watches world wide.

Not a lot in the grand scheme of things. Assuming the numbers are correct. Could all be totally wrong.

This is just because it's 7am, not long in work and I'm bored :p

This actually helped me answer a statistic I was pondering earlier... :

Let's say the typical person who ordered an SB watch is a 35 yo male. This is probably older than the average AW buyer, but that seems reasonable given that the SB is the most expensive non-edition model. U.S. Federal actuarial tables say that a person of this description has a "Death Probability" (chance of dying within a year) of 0.001592. If I've done my math right (69000*0.001592/12), that means something like 9 people who ordered this model of watch have literally died waiting for it.

Tweak my assumptions (use another country's actuarial tables, come up with a different "typical" buyer, account for the fact that you probably would not have ordered one if you had a known terminal illness), but I bet you'll have a hard time getting that number below at least one person who has already died waiting for their Space Black watch.

Maybe you can tell the wait is taking a toll on me!

I'm going to go with 9 people died reading this post. Actually it could be much higher than that. :D

Apple is trolling you, that watch's window starts after ur space black's does and they send u it first

What's worse than waiting on a space black stainless steel watch is knowing that when it does finally come, you'll be putting it on eBay because you should have gotten the 42mm instead of the 38mm... and then you have to continue waiting on the 42mm that's scheduled to ship in July. I don't know why I keep checking my order status when I won't even be keeping it.

That reminds me, anybody wanna trade their 42mm for my 38mm + cash because they realize their wrists are too small for a 42mm?

I don't buy the "lighting" excuse. I've seen the a couple of the display case models and some were WAY lighter color than the current pictures show. It was NOT due to the lighting in the case. They were clearly from an early batch and not even close to the inky dark black seen in the images and videos on Apple's site. When I first saw it, I thought it was some new model of a different color. It was that jarringly different.

I've seen ones in the case that were the correct color and have seen other photos of display case models that looked right as well.

Hi all, my first post...

I have something interesting to add to this diversionary topic, while we all wait for our SB watches...

I'm almost certain that the SSSB watch on display at the Westfield shopping centre, in the UK is not a DLC coated watch. It too exhibits a "gun metal" colour, which you could argue is just the lighting. But, the main reason I think these are not DLC coated, is that when I visited my store a few weeks back there was a small, but noticeable, scratch on the bracelet, under the bezel. I pointed this out and when I returned a day or so later, the watch had been polished and a small shiny metal tarnish stain was in its place. Pretty sure a DLC coating wouldn't behave this way. But, I'm no expert.

Balancing this observation, I can't believe apple would put a watch on display that looked so different from the real thing...well, anyway...just my experience.

Either way, I'm going to love and cherish it.
