The post-10pm launch apparently briefly crashed both Fandango and MovieTickets.com. Most of the tickets for IMAX screenings on opening night are practically sold out already. I'd say Avatar better get ready to hand over the box office crown by early in 2016.

I think you might consider revising your videogame/movie sales ratio somewhat. For example, Grand Theft Auto V grossed $1 billion in just 3 days. It's a whole new world in the entertainment market.
I expect episode VII to smash all box office records. It will destroy the previous Xmas open. Probably be biggest weekend open ever. And highest grossing of all time when the numbers are tallied. Might be the fastest to all time gross.

There's no chance of it being a box office failure, but I'm continuing to reserve my judgement on whether it will turn out to be a creative failure...

I'm a big Star Wars fan, but JJ Abrams couldn't direct his way out of a paper bag, so I'm keeping my expectations extra low.

Nonetheless, I have already secured my hot little IMAX ticket for the opening IMAX screening on December 17th.

I finally saw it twice on my phone. Will probably study more of it on my TV later.

Why the sad face, Leia? JJ said he wasn't going to use EU material but it looks that way anyway. Grandpa-loving Vader fanboy, Kylo Ren, is the son of Han and Leia and that's why the sad face with Leia. Or Leia is sad because her twin bro, Luke, is gone missing...

I am not too worried of spoilers as long as the presentation is excellent for it. We already knew the main material from Episode III and I still enjoyed it. My anticipation hasn't changed much since they didn't spill any major story points. But it looks very promising and George Lucas-free from any future tinkering.

Good thing my enthusiasm has been poured into other things because this trailer that just hit is not doing a thing for me. I still don't like Rey (nothing to with Daisy Ridley; the character just does not appeal to me), but that's where Finn, Poe, BB-8 and Captain Phasma come in. Definitely not taking off for opening day now and I'll wait a bit to see it (probably Christmas week or thereafter.)

I still have a slight glimmer of hope that the film will make me feel like I am back in the Star Wars universe (and the dog fight in the trailer gave me a little tingle); but I suspect I'll get the Star Wars fix I want with Rogue One. And if that happens, I will be 100% fine with that.

You don't like Rey, based on glimpses of a character in the trailers or something else?

When a trailer like this makes me emotional...where is my hanky?

While I agree with the first part, highest grossing of all time depends on the meat of the story, but it's very possible. Besides the original legions of fans, you've got the following generations all ready invested. This has the potential to make Abrams the mega Director.

Entertainment success better, plus creative success best. The scenes from that trailer seem to reveal the force is strong with that one, where examples of the power of clean and incredible Star Wars-fabulous CGI are revealed.

I can appreciate that. The franchise has enough goodwill that fans are willing to give this one a shot despite the last trilogy not living up to the originals.

The prequels are a dry archive that fill in the blanks but can't mar the living history of the series. ;)

Yes, a possibility although James Cameron has a habit of creating mega-hits. Avatar 2 is due out Christmas 2016.

Can't wait! Looking forward to what JJ has done with it as I like what he did to Star Trek. Kylo Ren looks suitably badass, but is he the primary badass as we haven't seen anything of Max Von Sydow in the trailers.....

I just find it ironic you don't understand the Hype train if you are an AC fan.

The assumption that my avatar translates to anything more than me being a fan of one particular game in the series would be inaccurate. As my original post states, I'm looking forward to Episode VII. The hype around it though is...interesting.

Finished watching the trailer at least 6x on my TV and read The Verge analysis. I don't care if JJ Abrams took cues from EU and made Jacen into Kylo Ren and Rey into Jaina. Whatever the characters and story will turn out is ok by me. Just wait the next couple months on who is related to who. It is all good as long as nomore of this...

Luke was probably thinking to himself, "Hey, Tupac. Forget about you for a minute being here in Endor. Why does my father look 21-years old and younger than me right now?"

Now and then I think of all the times I screwed fans over
I had them believing that the first three films were really done
But Star Wars will be done my way
I don't care what you have to say
I think that they should let it go
And they'll never get the Blu-Ray of the Star Wars that you used to know

UPDATE: Hoping the rumor mills are 100% false about her, but so far all the footage is proving to be correct in matters Rey. And every single photo is Captain Emo... really? Do we need another one of those?

Won't go into anything else here, but if it turns out I like her, great. If not, no big loss, as I said based upon this and other info, Rogue One will probably be more my lightspeed.

Star Wars was always going to be a 9 part series. These new movies are not out of the blue. They were planned by Lucas over 30 years ago.

When Disney bought the rights to Star Wars they also bought the treatments George Lucas laid out going forward.

Yes, and a script was written and rejected. After that it was Abrahms and Kasdan that went off in their own direction with a completely new canon.
