I agree with Jobs on this one....
The phone works.
I think people are making more out of it than need be.

If you have a death grip on your iPhone 4, you cannot hold it up to your ear.

If you are using it with earbuds in and you are covering both black strips with your finger and palm, move your ***** finger 1mm up or down.

If you are a cry baby about it, then put a GD bumper or case on it!

Next we are going to hear people bitch how when you drop their iPhone 4's twenty-three times that the glass on the back shatters.

Could everyone that post a response include whether you have an IP4 or just piling on. If you don't have one then posting about a reception issue is kind of moot.

I don't have one yet.

I like your thinking, JC. But don't count on it...many are just piling on.

I own an iP4, my second one, having returned my first one on Wednesday as I was experiencing the yellow screen blotches. Swapped at my local Apple Store, painlessly.

Yeah, it's not like it costs much money

Beautiful!!!

The incredible irony to me is that Steve Jobs talking about "family" is like Richard Simmons bragging about fondling big boobs! LOL

Neither has a lot of street cred there. LOL

Smart Apple. Timing IS perfect...with 1,700,000++ phones sold, and counting. Heck of an opportunity.

Are you telling me they would not have made money off bumper cases for iPhone, 3G and 3GS?
I agree that it's a good money maker for apple, but it just seemed weird that Steve is telling us to use a bumper case, and how convenient you actually need one for the iPhone 4. Can you not see my point at all or is your head up your ass like steve's?

I have a microcell at home and I haven't dropped a single call.

That's nice. I have one too, and if I touch the spot-of-death it regularly drops off the microcell, and starts searching for an AT&T signal (and can't find one). Perhaps you have a serviceable AT&T signal so that it can at least maintain the call. I don't.

I'd bet anything that there is going to be a change in the way the iPhones are manufactured. In a couple of months, all new iPhone 4s will have some coating on the metal antennas, or something like that. Some sort of fix that is not visually obvious, but will mitigate the problem.

Well it will have to be thicker than Scotch Tape, because I tried putting two layers of that around the band just as a test, and it didn't help.

I think with that attitude you should work for Apple. I don't want an ugly bumper on a nice looking phone. Idiot

Someone stop that Moron before he ruins the Company!!

OMG - Someone at Apple has GOT to get a hold of Jobs and keep him away from answering e-mails or phone calls. He is singlehandedly going to destroy most of the hard work on market share Apple has gathered in the last couple of years. He has displayed an arrogant and pompous disregard for what his customer base thinks with these repeated comments about user error, and instructing Apple not to give out bumpers, etc.

As we speak I know several friends who are dumping their iphone4's for the Evo, and I can certainly understand why if Apple's attitude about its customers is anything close to what Jobs has been saying.

Two Easy solutions for EVERYBODY:

1. If you dont like it....RETURN it.

2. If you dont like it but for some reason are too stupid to return it stop gripping it like a fu*kin retard and you will get a phone that works.

Geesh...

Non Issue. Relax. Enjoy life.

Are you sure you aren't on Jobs payroll? Cause the phone has a serious problem, and it's definitely location related. I should not have to think about moving my pinky up or down, I should be able to hold the phone wherever I want and still expect it to work. Death grip or not, I drop calls multiple times a day because I am busy doing other stuff while talking on the phone and my finger slips and before you know it I get the three beeps of death.

And those GD bumper cases are hideous, I'm happy you like yours though.

Ii don't need to look, I already know. I have had every version of the iPhone every single one made calls from my house when held without dropping - I could even make them from the basement which is 3 sides underground. The iP4 4 reliable drops calls if held normally.

Again, this obfuscation by the shills that this is about a 'watching the bars' issue is laughable - this is about reproducible dropping of calls in places where the previous iPhones didn't drop them. Please no video links - I haven't watch one video about this issue from the very beginning - you people who live on YouTube need to get a life.

The iP4 is unreliable out of the box. Period. Duct tape on the sides is making it usable, will wait to see if Apple makes this right and if not return it next week to get my AT&T upgrade date reset so when the 'odd this phone version doesn't have the shorting issue' version comes out I can use the upgrade credit for that. Yeah it will cost me a $30 restock fee and probably the $18 nonrefundable upgrade fee AT&T charges but just rankles me too much to reward this kind of behavior.

Live and learn, Apple doesn't stand behind its products.

...

This is jobs way of screwing ocher AT&T without killing his own sales. The issue will be fixed when the garrison iPhone is released LOL

if it's just a phone, why did steve send chariots of skeletons over to gizmodo?

Did you read my original posting? Clearly, you didn't.

Apple was on the sidelines for years, not offering and relegating cases to third party suppliers. It's proven to be a lucrative commodity; I rarely see an iPhone without a case. While it may seem coincidental, it may simply be the time that Apple decided to jump into this market offering. I can't say for sure, and neither can you.

I think that the worst part of all of this is the fact that anyone with a brain should be purchasing a rubber grip for it in the first place.

I love how people jump on one thing in a post to ignore the content of it! I NEVER SAID 8MP IS QUALITY BUT YEAR ON YEAR IPHONE HAS JUMPED UP A FEW MEGAPIXELS ANYWAY TO ATTRACT NON TECHY USERS!
The iPhone has increased in Mpx not to attract non-techy users (Apple attracts them by focusing on what you can do with their devices rather than what the specifications of their devices are), but rather to accommodate improved image capture abilities in their devices.

I realize this must be an important response to you, given the exclamation points and SHOUTING, but when you highlight 8 Mpx with no qualification don't be surprised when people take you at your word.

For the first time, I am actually impressed by something Steve Jobs has said. I agree, the antenna is a non-issue and in the grand scheme of things, it is just a phone. That said, you'd have to pry my iPhone 4 out of my cold, dead hands before I would return it.

I think that the worst part of all of this is the fact that anyone with a brain should be purchasing a rubber grip for it in the first place.

Of course they should. As millions have chosen to protect their previous iPhones with cases, bumpers and gels, why would this be any different? It's not.

I think that the worst part of all of this is the fact that anyone with a brain should be purchasing a rubber grip for it in the first place.

I think that the worst part of all of this is the fact that company with a brain should be providing a rubber grip for it if its needed to make it work as well as the last model in the first place.

There, fixed that for you.

I think that the worst part of all of this is the fact that anyone with a brain should be purchasing a rubber grip for it in the first place.

Why? If I'm not clumsy and I don't drop my phones, why would I need a bumper? Surely not to make the phone work out of the box...That's just insane.

I love this ***** PHONE..... but it's getting returned if I can't make a decent PHONE call.....I'll use my 3GS till something gets done :(
