RIP Steve. Thanks for revolutionizing so many devices I use every day to make life easier not just for me, but millions of people's around the world who also use Macs, iPhones, iPods, etc. You will be greatly missed :(
 
Just read the news. So very very sad. From the accounts I've read, he was shrewd, obnoxious (that's what the Xerox people thought of him), a jerk at times, but people appreciated him (generally) because he had a vision and knew when pieces were coming together. He didn't invent the PC, he invented the way we look at them (figuratively and literally). The same to a large extent with smart phones and 'pads. Who's going to invent the future of computing now?
 
When you check the code on the main page, his picture is called 't_hero.png'. His employees loved him very much.

RIP Steve, we'll miss you.

Sad Day, RIP Steve Job, makes you wonder what type of products he would of developed if he lived to 90 instead of passing away at 56
 
The first thought is sadness that someone who brought much elegance and simplicity to the world is gone.

The second is happiness that work lives on in the machine I use to type this.


PS: A distant third thought is wondering why a self serving comment from Michael Dell (who really should have been broken up and redistributed to his own shareholders) needs to appear here, since his own contribution to computing is so opposite that of SJ.
 
RIP Steve. Probably the greatest visionary my generation will ever know. Can't believe the guy worked until the very last moment. Unbelievably driven.
 
Sad day indeed to lose a person who has played a tremendous role in mobile tech innovation's rise.
 
It is truly amazing to see here, Facebook, and twitter just how many lives have been impacted by Steve Jobs, what an incredible journey this has been.
 
I haven't posted on MacRumors.com for years. I have to leave my respects for a man who's influenced my life.

Rest in peace Steve Jobs. You're in a better place and your brilliance has left the world a better place.

So nice to see so many people who haven't been here for a while come on and post their thoughts.

Without Steve and his vision, none of us would be here.

What a 36 hour span. To go from the excitement (for some) of an iPhone announcement to the complete shock and sadness of hearing the news tonight.

It definitely puts things back into perspective. What a huge loss.

My heart sank when I read the news. He was an amazing man that truly changed the world. He'll be greatly missed.

Thank you for everything Mr. Jobs.
 
There will never be another!

I haven't posted in almost a year but I have to honor the late great Steve Jobs. No matter what the haters say there will never be anyone like him, ever. RIP SJ. You made Apple the KING of multimedia.

Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure — these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.

Godspeed Mr. Jobs. One of your greatest accomplishments is the fantastic business, leadership and engineering teams you've assembled that comprise Apple. To those you've left behind, I'm confident you will continue the greatness. We're counting on you. Thank you Mr. Jobs for products that made my personal life more fun and my professional life easier and more successful. Peace be upon you. :apple:
 
Such a shock!

I feel like I knew him .... Using the iPhone/iPad.

I am much more saddened than I thought I would be to hear this news. I have loved Apple products for my whole life of 36 years, even when using Apple products was not the "cool" thing to do. Once Mr. Jobs was brought back in to Apple, everything seemed to go up and no one ever looked back. I remember thinking, who the heck would create a computer without a disk drive (the iMac). They have got to be nuts!!! I was wrong. Then thinking, why is Apple making a music player (iPod), they are a computer company, they are making a mistake here! Again, I was wrong. After that I realized that I should sit back watch, not judge. When Mr. Jobs became sick, I was saddened to say the least. It was not long and he was back at it again, just like before, maybe even better. Then last month, when he stepped down, I knew something had to be incredibly wrong. I did not realize his sickness was as bad as it was. Then this news today... I feel so horrible for his family especially. What a great husband and father they had and were generous enough to let him be so influential to so many. I for the first time ever, have tears for someone who is a "celebrity" not because Apple lost someone so important, but because the world lost someone so important. Rest in Peace Mr. Jobs. The world will try their hardest to replace you, but that would be impossible. Thanks for all you have done during your short time on earth. You will be forever missed.

its sad to hear that we've lost another brilliant mind in our time. :( he'll never be forgotten.
 
iRIP - Picture of Jobs

Sad day indeed. While searching for news articles about Jobs' death, I stumbled across a fantastic picture of him. I've seen this before, but I don't recall where. When I saw it the first time, there were several others pictured (but for the life of me I can't recall who).

In a nutshell, does anyone know what magazine or website that this originated from? I'm interested in the style of photo, and I'd like to see who all the others are.

Here's what I found by searching, but I can't find the source.
