Sad day. I remember watching my first Jobs keynote, streamed over a very questionable Internet connection in a high school dorm room, circa 2002. Soon afterwards I joined MacRumors. :apple:

I feel like writing to write.

I'm devastated by this. Not because I knew him, ever met him, etc, bet he shaped my entire world.

Early efforts grew my interest in technology, but just look recently. Being able to run and build a business on the technology. To make things easy to use, to get the technology to fade into the background and let work get done. To connect in a good and neat way with the iPhone. To work, play, read, and live in the digital age with something like the iPad.

It's everywhere I look and having this phase close with Steve's death is sad. It's also exciting, because he didn't design a computer chip, invent some new antenna, or code some fancy software, but established a vision and a idea. That lasts. I'll miss the shows, the excitement at new products, the fun emails to customers, but I won't miss the vision and the mind. Death can't take that from the people who were picked to move Apple forward; death can't take that from the people who have been touched by the products; death can't take the words he left.

We won't see him again, but we'll see him soon. We'll see him in a week when we play with the iPhone 4s. We'll see him with the iPad 3 this spring, and we'll see him in the new products we haven't even heard of yet.

Save journey and good night old friend.

R.I.P. Steve

Just wanted to join you all guys in this emotive goodbye to Steve Jobs. Reading all your posts is making this moment slightly more bearable.

Thanks Steve. Rest in peace.

RIP Steve. You are of the greatest men that ever lived. You have changed the world for generations to come and you will be remembered forever.

Thank You Steve!

Many thanks for making Apple what it is today, and all the parts of it that I love and hate with equal passion. It's the hallmark of a true visionary to be able to evoke such strong emotions in people, especially about something as cerebral as technology.

Thank you for your vision - my very first computer was an Apple //c; for NeXTSTEP and OS X; for my very first iPod I never knew I needed; the iPhone and the iPad; for revolutionizing laptop design.

Thank you for driving me crazy - yeah, I was at the Macworld when all the love the G4 PowerMacs received was a speed-bump to 733MHz; for all the times I cursed at Apple DRM; for placing form over function again and again but still making beautiful products that are a leap ahead of competitors; for not ever once offering the nonprofit sector discounted hardware and software; for getting in bed with the worst cell phone company in the United States and still making a product that compelled people to switch providers.

Thank you for demonstrating the outcome of one person's relentless pursuit of making technology accessible, fun, and game-changing.

You will be missed, badly.

Rest in Peace.

Hey, Steve. I remember how thrilled I was to hear you came back to Apple. It was great to be there the whole way, as you led Apple back from the brink. I'm thankful that you made communication and technology easier to use for all of us. It was always fun when you had your keynotes, and I will always remember the one I got to go to in person!

I was saddened that you and your family had to deal with your health issues, and now I'm really sad that your wife and kids will be missing you for the rest of their lives. As wonderful a genius and visionary you were, the biggest role in your life was as a husband and father and that cannot be replaced. :(

My thoughts are with your family at this time, and I am thankful they were kind enough to share you with the rest of us. RIP, Steve.

..."Take me on a trip upon your magic swirlin' ship
My senses have been stripped, my hands can't feel to grip
My toes too numb to step, wait only for my boot heels to be wanderin'

I'm ready to go anywhere, I'm ready for to fade
Into my own parade, cast your dancing spell my way
I promise to go under it.

Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
I’m not sleepy and there is no place I’m going to
Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
In the jingle jangle morning I’ll come followin’ you"...

This seemed appropriate.

The world has lost a truly brilliant mind today, but sometimes these losses inspire brilliance in others. If the loss of any man can do this, it's the loss of Steve Jobs.

I'd say rest in peace, but I think we all know he's already busy improving something on the other side...

Thank you Steve, for being the most influential person our eyes will see. I really looked up to you as a role model and will greatly miss you!

I remember starting my obsession with Apple and Steve after I got my first iPod in 2005. Like many on this site, I would anticipate keynote days and new releases. I'm going to miss him a lot.
