So it's essentially a copy of the UK's GCHQ building in Cheltenham. Very original.......... not. Does it have a very gradual unnoticeable spiral floor so you can walk through the building from the ground floor reception all the way through to the roof top viewing gallery with out ever having to get into a lift or use a staircase. (may take a while but isn't that called exercise).

It seems it could have been used for inspiration. Nice building. But who said anything about being very original?

Because there are alot of Asian people in Cupertino. Seriously, what is up with people having an issue with this?

His cowboy hat is too heavy, placing pressure on his brain.

This new campus will be in addition to 1 Infinite Loop. It's not a replacement.

Lloyd!

Oh, I see.. Thanks

Also, this curved glass building may be the reason of the glass machinery rumors last month, that lead to those curved glass iPhone rumors.

I've already seen a circular structure in Germany, its called Allianz Arena. They should sue Apple for patent infringement. Doesnt look good for the Year of the Copycat after stealing ideas from RIM, Google, Android and LockInfo

I think they really intend to plant hemp in the courtyard.

You would think they would have planted Apple trees instead.

Although apricot trees were there before development turned it into an asphalt field. Some of the ideas behind this campus seem to be specifically be from Jobs wanting to recapture some of what was nostalgic to him about the area. Plus it has the advantage that it is actually restoring it back with indigenous plants which is a good thing.

How is the Allianze Arena a circle? oh wait never mind you were just trolling.

The building looks great, but I still think this is the most impressive corporate headquarters anywhere...

Just kidding!

The Cupertino city council is a bunch of clowns (less the guy from HP that had the only intelligent comments). The request for free WiFi and comments about iPads were cheesy enough, but the questions about building safety... are you kidding me?? The most disturbing thing is that he had already seen this proposal, so his questions about safety were planned and intentional. He must have taken a potty break when it was mentioned that the best engineers and architects in the world would be handling this project.

From a business standpoint, SJ can position Apple in any one of a number of nearby cities to obtain tax breaks without significantly disrupting employee commutes, but it seems he has a deep loyalty to his childhood town. I think that is admirable and hopefully pays off from a long term corporate sustainability standpoint.

Michael - I think an estimate has been posted previously. In case you missed it, its anywhere between $770M - 1.5B based on 3.1 million square feet, with a cost of $250/square.

As a suggestion, not a command, I would let the conversation go with KnightWRX. He/she woke up on the wrong side of their french canadian mattress. From my experience (and this is not a generalization, but simply a recap of my experiences), my interactions with french canadians is that they love to argue for no apparent reason. I don't know if it's because they are the red headed stepchild of canada (their two failed referendum attempts), or they speak quebecois (slang) vs Parisian French and they find this insulting somehow. I have yet to arrive at any definitive conclusion that accurately encapsulates their argumentative nature.

None-the-less, take his/her drivel for less than it's actually worth and carry on with your day.

I hope I answered your question instead of berating you.

Thanks!

I did see that estimation in a previous comment.... but I was so taken aback by SirWRX's comments to me...

I won't let him/her bother me anymore :)

Fantastic architecture

... but it does make me want to puke watching the small minded officials roll over and play dead when faced with a big mind...

Stupid City Council

It must have taken Steve a lot of patience to put up with these idiots while planning something so awesome. For the city to ask free WiFi of the largest taxpayer they have? Not Cool! To me, it shows ungratefulness. Like if your dad bought you a brand new, 2011 Ford Mustang and you asked, does this come with free gas for life? It's not just the Cupertino's city council that asks the stupid questions about safety when there are local and international rules set in place for any building to meet safety specs. I've been in the salt lake city meetings when one of the council members asked about the safety of a structure in a house we were designing and someone smart in the room reminded them, "It is not our job to base this decision on the safety regulations and internal structure of the building. There are other channels that take care of that."

Demography

This may not be politically correct, but why are most of the city council members Chinese? This sure doesn't reflect the ethnic diversity of the US.

Some of them don't seem to speak English that well which is just odd. How did they get elected if they couldn't speak the language fluently? I bet more than 90% of the legislative council members here in Hong Kong speak better English.

I had to disagree, though, with some of the comments here saying that the questions were stupid. I think they have done a fantastic job pretending to scrutinise Jobs with these easy questions. Steve gets to pretend to seek permission from the city, and the city council gets to pretend that the plan is scrutinised. Job done. Everyone gets paid.

It reflects the demographic of the city, which is 65% Asian, 20% white.

It's incredible that a CA City council from a respectable size city can be so low in intelligence and making such stupid comments and observations.

Seriously free WI-Fi? I was surprise she did not ask Jobs for a free iPad.

Feel bad for Jobs to have to endure talking with those clowns.
I bet he was so relieve when that meeting was over.

I feel for the apple employees when an earthquake hits. I would've asked about the safety of the campus and how they're going to get the council to approve and add a new budget for a new fire department.

I agree with all the complaints about how Steve Jobs shouldn't have to put up with all these elected politicians. Cupertino should just elect Steve Jobs as their King or something, then he would never have these problems ever again.

its coloseum

It will be new coloseum, inside the circle will be lions tigers and leopards.
Just in case, If someone screw something. (Like mobilme team did)

Ground Control To Major Steve!

New Apple HQ SPACESHIP that looks like the rotating Space Station from Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey + MAC OSX Mission Control / LaunchPad / Time Capsule / Airport / Time Machine / Desktop space photography from NASA? Apple HQ designed by world famous Spaceport America Architect Norman Foster for the Virgin Spacecraft for citizens adventure in New Mexico. Even the cross paths in the central garden appear to be the "X" from OSX from a birds eye view...Brilliant!

Cafe Mac

It would be really nice if they made their cafeteria open to the public! Though I know that won't happen. There is a very large, Bank in my area that has a pretty big campus here in town and their cafeteria is open to the public.
