I hear it's not if you're part of teams that fail. MobileMe for instance got their asses torn a new hole.

As they should have. As would happen in any corporation. I fail to see why this was such big news. Good product with a team that failed in their task of implementation. Ground breaking.

Well, this explains why the stock has been down in recent days. Shareholders don't like building a palace. Curved glass, huge courtyard, underground transportation network. Sounds real expensive...

Jobs Legacy

I hope it's not true but I can't help but wonder if this is Steve's leaving a legacy project.

This was unveiled last night.

Having just come from a council hearing in San Diego, I dream of the day we could argue from SJ's position.

Q: "What benefit does the city see from this project?"

A: "About a billion dollars to spend however you want. Or we could give our $ to the next town over. Your call, Sucka!"

Is it just me, or did the two council members who asked the most questions sound like complete idiots?

"Are you going to take safety into consideration when building the new campus?"

Seriously? You CAN'T build a new building in the U.S without taking safety into consideration. It's the LAW.

"So, what will tax payers get out of this other than the majority of the city's tax income? Free wifi or ipads?"

FACEPALM

jobs is building a glass palace, nice...until the 9.0 magnitude earthquake hits right after it's completed.

brilliant steve.

Don't you think they've considered this? Design materials? Mounting systems? The myriad of engineering details facing such a complex project? Don't you think they'll adhere to the California construction codes relative to earthquakes, probably going above and beyond? Good grief.

There will be more to worry about than Apple's new facility should a magnitude 9.0 earthquake ravage the area.

Steve Jobs: We are of peace.

I wonder when he'll announce blue energy.

If this is how government bureaucrats treat the CEO of the most valuable company in the world, I can only imagine what less powerful companies have to deal with. No wonder they're all leaving.

My family owns a small 100 employee business. The town makes it hard to do anything! It's like the government forgets where money and jobs come from.

Brilliant! Beautiful design, I would expect nothing less.

Anyone who thinks Jobs is in his death bed should watch this video.

He looks good, thin, sure, who knows what kind of treatments he's going through, but he's in crackerjack mental shape, you can clearly see that. He's not got any notes, all from memory, so he knows everything there is to know about the project because he's so intricately involved in the continued shaping of the future of his Apple, and its legacy.

Also this is a great clip to watch just to see how wonderful a salesman this guy is. It an amazing video. I'm glad this little city council had the facilities to tape it for all of us to see.

Poor Steve, are you freaking kidding me?
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA!!

I think that's the funniest ironic thing I've read in years! Thank You! :D

Hell, free WIFI or an Apple Store for a city the size of Cupertino is CHUMP CHANGE to Apple or compared to the cost of this massive project.

How embarrassing for Apple to be so CHEAP with billions of dollars in the bank while I'm sure there are still tons of unemployed people even in Cupertino.

I'm not saying Apple owes WIFI to Cupertino by any stretch and I'm sure it will get approved anyway, but I don't blame the politicians for representing their constituents and asking the question, "What's in it for us?" That's what they're elected to do, not to lick Steve Jobs boot, bow before him, and stand there slobbering over his City Council "keynote."

By the way, the design looks amazing. My first thought was that it almost looks like what would happen if Apple re-built the Pentagon! :)

No, they are elected to govern equitably not try and extort free WiFi out of a company.

A company that is a constituent.

Then again, this is America where I have to "get mine" at any cost.

ಠ_ಠ

what is this, i don't even...

srsly apple should stop making this crap and make real computers. not some desktop with a laptop GPU and overpriced computers with ****** specs

Does anyone know or they they know the benefits of a circular building? How that could help the business?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

Why don't they just buy Cupertino?

Seriously. Buy every building, all the roads, take over the infrastructure and show local governments around the world how things should be done.

Be an interesting experiment at the very least.
No need to buy the city. Just contract everything out. Maywood, CA is having to do just that.

And unsupported by controlled clinical evidence since 1953.

That's why it's called alternative medicine. You know what they call alternative medicine that is supported by controlled clinical evidence ? Medicine. ;) (props to Tim Minchin on that one).

Again, as symbolism goes, with Steve's fight with cancer, this fits. Could be a coincidence, could be deeper symbolism. I don't doubt it's not as a planned cure for himself though, that'd just be dumb. Buy them from Turkey by the case, much cheaper.

Out of curiosity, I wonder how many of the trees will be apricot, how much they’ll produce, and what they’ll be used for. Some CA towns are known for avocado festivals and others artichokes.

What if there was an annual Cupertino Apricot Days. That would certainly give back to the community by giving the city back a part of their identity and history.

True! They talk a good game, but then hassle the hell out of you over every little thing.

I used to work for a consulting company. One study we did found that businesses provide more revenues than the services they need cost. Residents on the other hand cost a city way more than they pay for. So cities that had a larger amount of businesses generally have better streets and services.

So it's essentially a copy of the UK's GCHQ building in Cheltenham. Very original.......... not. Does it have a very gradual unnoticeable spiral floor so you can walk through the building from the ground floor reception all the way through to the roof top viewing gallery with out ever having to get into a lift or use a staircase. (may take a while but isn't that called exercise).
