Would SJ get pissy over nothing? Highly unlikely...

Buy people read the things they post.

2.010, TWO years AFTER the first Android device, ONE year after Schmidt left Apple board.

And what features is Jobs talking about?

I hear what you're saying, "where's the hard proof" that Android copied iOS, and for the record "no" I personally don't have any such concrete evidence on my end to support this claim. So there you go.

However, I'd go as far to say that if Steve Jobs strongly suspected that Eric Schmidt used the knowledge that he gained of iOS while sitting on Apple's B.O.D. to help eventually develop Android into what it is now** then it's a strong possibility that there is some real truth to this, especially when Jobs went on record to say he felt "betrayed" by Schmidt in reference to the whole matter, nor did he want to accept a financial settlement to resolve the matter.

Legally speaking, this "insider trading" accusation hasn't (or even can't) be proven either way***, at least not amongst ourselves in the public sphere, so arguing back n' forth for or against it is kinda fruitless. But the reason why I posted that link earlier was to highlight where the poster WeegieMac might have been getting his "source" from, and that IMO it's a noteworthy, if not credible one.

** even though it was 2 years after the 1st iPhone that Android started looking more like iOS, that still doesn't mean it wasn't happening (the use of iOS trade secrets) to help get Android to that stage in it's development. Remember, in computing, the designs that appear on the market today were road-mapped for production at least 1.5 years prior to public release.

*** which if it is true, is only more credit to the thief for successfully accomplishing their goal, as they have concealed it enough to stave off any potential legal action taken against them.

Anyone having a tough time deciding between the Kindle version and iBooks version?

I like getting my books from Amazon and it would be nice to have one consolidated collection but it just seems "necessary" to get Steve Jobs on iBooks.

"Although I'm sure it is a great read, I'm sure it will go next to an equally unread Sun Tzu's The Art of War on the shelves of managers that only want to LOOK good."

Sun Tzu's Art or War takes less than an hour to read. I've given away many copies. I bought the biography for many of the same reasons, mostly the concept of strategy.

"I want you to stop using our ideas in Android, that's all I want." - Steve Jobs

Kind of funny considering the iOS notification center is pretty much a copy of Android.

I don't see anything beautiful about SJ's obsession --- this guy cared about money & power; the tech was just a tool he used to get them. You sound like you believe that SJ was some altruistic technological philanthropist, who was obsessed with helping people via new technologies.

Not "helping" people, but making his vision about how you and I should use tech into a reality. No philanthropy here, just obsession about what he wanted products to be. It isn't that hard to understand, but maybe in this day and age it is. Or maybe this is the wrong audience to be to be explaining it to.

The guy was obsessed about refinements, details, every last element that was involved from the user wanting to execute an action on a device, to when the action is executed.

Does this guy sound money and "power"-hungry?

"So Vic, we have an urgent issue, one that I need addressed right away. I've already assigned someone from my team to help you, and I hope you can fix this tomorrow" said Steve. "I've been looking at the Google logo on the iPhone and I'm not happy with the icon. The second O in Google doesn't have the right yellow gradient. It's just wrong and I'm going to have Greg fix it tomorrow. Is that okay with you?"

Yes, Jobs called Google about the colour being off on an "O" in the Google logo. Who the hell else would pay such attention to that? Steve made that small detail an "urgent issue." Like he made the all the elements of what makes Apple products great - all those little details that add up - into an "urgent issue." Attention to detail, design, and refinements to the User Experience were all "urgent issues" to Jobs. What a shame there aren't more tech CEOs like him.

Jobs was someone who actually gave a damn and was out to perfect his craft. He was in the game to challenge himself each time. When the iPad was first criticized and cut down by the (later to be repentant) media, Jobs took it very personally and was very down about it. It was his baby. Anyone who has such a close relationship to their work would understand this perfectly. I challenge any also-ran CEOS - those of Dell, Acer, HP, to feel the same way.

Naturally, someone like this is also responsible for revolutionary shifts in tech. You don't need me to tell you what those are. They are obvious.

Here's a question:

Will Bill Gates, when he eventually dies, get this kind of sendoff/attention?

yes, SJ didn't "out" ES but...

You guys keep missing the point. Jobs never accused Schmidt of any wrong doing personally nor did he accuse Schmidt of spying/being a mole.

If nothing else - and given Jobs' personality and this book - if he had thought Schmidt, himself, was backstabbing him - he would have outed him as such. He didn't. He points his finger at GOOGLE.

Yes, technically speaking you are correct about it being Google that Steve Jobs was pointing the finger at, but remember that Jobs said he felt "betrayed" by Eric Schmidt (see here, here, here, and here) and just where did Schmidt go to work right after he left Apple's board of directors??? That's right: Google. So, when you think about it for a second, it's pretty much one and the same in the bigger picture.

Maybe it wasn't "purposeful" copying or nefarious in it's nature, but it's still a plausible argument to make that Android copied elements of iOS based on the knowledged Schimdt gained while over at Apple.

Also, if Jobs was going to "out" Schmidt personally he would need hard proof, else short of this could be considered libel with serious negative legal consequences for both him and Apple, and Jobs wouldn't risk that, so the next best thing in his eyes (I'm guessing) was to shun Schmidt both for personal and professional reasons.

That is were he was working before entering Apple's B.O.D and were waas working while was in the board.

Or Schmidt stopped being CEO of Google while in the board?

Can't decide whether to buy it and read it on my ipad or get the printed version. What would Steve want?

Something like Tim Cook said comes to mind; don't ask what Steve would do, do what is right.

I've purchased the Sample of the book on iBooks (~120 pages) and I will purchase the full book when I hit the end of the Sample. I already know that someone wants to buy me the physical book as a gift. :)

Excellent read, really. I love having it right on my iPad when I want to read a little more. I'm going to take my time through it - I don't want to rush through this one. This is a take-it-in sort of read.

Incredible that Steve still hits #1 with his work, and I know this won't be his last chart-topper, either.

Some of this things I have read about Steve remind me of how self centered I was at an early age. He was arrogant and self serving but so I was, and still am to a certain extent. His brute honesty is what I liked about him. I deal a lot better with those personalities then with those who tell you one thing and do another (Bill Gates). At least with Steve, I could say "Sorry man I don't see your vision" and buy another product. He didn't care that I didn't like his product, he made what he thought was best.

Was a nice relationship when he and I started seeing eye to eye :)

btw, ordered the 17" Macbook pro with update Specs.... :)

and now if amazon could just let me know that my copy has shipped...

man, wish i could afford an ipad.

I don't know about you, but mine's been pre-ordered for a month and it still hasn't shipped. What exactly is the point of the pre-order, then? Maybe simply to get it at a cheaper price, but once you add shipping, it's not that worth it. Can't cancel, either since it's been sitting at prepared for shipping since late last night. I should have simply waited and bought mine today at Walmart. Has anyone seen their pre-orders ship from Amazon who lives in the MD-VA area?

.

LTD - funny how he was obsessed with such minutia and deemed that urgent meanwhile there have been gaping holes/deficiencies in a lot of Apple's own software and plenty of hardware issues that went ignored. Surely you can't deny that ;)

Probably not as big because he doesn't have a legion of devout followers, but he will still get a fairly big send off thanks to his contributions to the world through the Gates Foundation.

Plus he's had just as big an impact on the tech world as Jobs, if not bigger.

LTD can AND will deny anything that could possibly shed Apple in a bad light. :)

my earlier point is still valid, if not more so...

I phrased that wrong earlier about Eric Schmidt's actual tenure at Google** so thanks for taking note of that. However my earlier point still stands, and if anything this correction makes it a stronger point of consideration that ES potentially used trade secrets to help develop Android. Again, no one can prove this for certain, if it's true at all, but the overall point here is that it's not as far fetched of a possibility as some are trying to claim.

**(Just FYI for others: Eric Schmidt was Google's CEO from 2001-2011, and he sat on Apple's Board of Directors from 2006-2009)

The price is ridiclously high, IMO.

what did it cost them to put the epub on itunes? nothing.

with a hardcover book, you have to pay for material and shipping and all that stuff. but $17 for an epub is way too damn high.

i think $5 is fair for the epub, $10 because it just came out.

Don't you think Walter Isaacson and Simon & Schuster should get paid for their work?

It's equal parts fact and fiction. But no doubt the majority on this forum will go with the conspiracy theory since it's serves their agenda

so are you saying Steve Jobs is a genius but then is too stupid to realize Schmidt may take ideas to Google? Also all the board directors that voted him in?

yeah ok...
