The Apple Bible has arrived. I'm sure it would be used as resource for future and countless debates. Read it and memorize it people.

"No, if you read page 567, paragraph 3 of Steve's Bio, it says that…"

Not surprised at all. Do you know anyone who doesn't have an Apple product whether it's an iPod, iPad, iPhone, or iMac? Jobs touched a lot of people and was a leader in the most important business industries of his era: computing and smartphones.

Not to mention that he was a unique character. Give me another CEO in his fifties presenting in jeans.

Not to be contrary - but what the hell

Yes - I know quite a few people that have no Apple products.

And Richard Branson often presents in jeans. Although now he's not in his 50s - he DID present in his jeans when he was :)

For anyone who ordered a hard copy from Amazon, has your book shipped yet? I ordered my late last week, & mine says shipping soon. Where is Amazon shipping these books from?

I love when people show their ignorance of the publishing industry.

And you are showing it in spades.

Whether it's electronic or printed - there are still royalties, editors, legal, design and production people, etc - ALL which contribute to the final product whether or not it arrives as a physical product.

And people on here say Android people are cheap

True, but then what is overly price is the suggested retail price for the hardcover.

The only reason it's at it's current price is the huge volume run that Amazon is paying for in advance.

And clearly, the highest profit margin product for either Amazon or the Publisher directly is the digital format.

You don't sell at total cost to the publishing arm. You mark it up well so that people still have jobs.

An area that publishing houses have cut corners drastically is in the quality of paper and binding since around 2000. Most hardbound typefaces, inks, papers and book backings are crap.

Hardcover is 30% or more off everywhere I've seen so far, Amazon, Target, B&N.

I picked up today at B&N where no one knew it was even released yet, though the store was packed with signs promoting it. I got the first copy and was handed it right from the still sealed "DO NOT OPEN UNTIL OCTOBER 24" boxes.

had to down you only cuz you think Lion is crap! Seriously?? if Lion is crap then Snow Leopard must be crappier to you then huh cuz Lion is only a huge improvement on that. I just don't get some people.

I know the downgrade storm will fly but the guy sounded like a jerk. Who parks in handicap spaces the doesn't actually need to? No plates on his car? Demeaning waitresses and employees? Does this sound like a good person to you? I know he had a lot of success in life and did great things in his line of work but come one.... Parking in handicap spaces?

IF it wasn't Steve Jobs and you saw someone doing that, wouldn't you think they were a douchebag?

Im sure there will be a ton of interesting things in the book but at least they're honest.

I find it hard enough to buy a book that I will only read once. I have outgrown my hoarding mentality. I will just get books from the library and return them. Everyone can benefit from just one copy.

For everyone that thinks libraries are for luddites, the library also has eBook loans.

Man, I haven't read the book but just seeing Jobs trash companies like Microsoft and Google makes for an interesting read. History repeated itself with Android just like Windows. So much foul language that you would think Scorsese should direct a movie about him.

Steve Jobs bio points out the good and bad
http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/story/2011-10-24/steve-jobs-biography/50893652/1

My fav quote from that article -

According to Leander Kahney's provocative book Inside Steve's Brain, Jobs was an elitist who dismissed most people as "bozos" yet made devices so simple anyone can use them.

He is polarizing because he can be so contradicting sometimes. He would refer most people as "bozos" if they had bad ideas or not on his level, but his company still catered to these same "bozos" with a novice level on tech. He says salespeople should never run a company but he was probably the greatest salesman in tech history. He is a fascinating man full of great incite and hypocrisy.

I want every Microsoft and Google employee to read the book. They are getting trashed by SJ repeatedly and maybe this wakes either up to come up with better products. Self-motivation book.

Well, Gates sat back and watched Jobs do all the work on GUI before ripping it off.

Then he watched Schmidt hoover up ideas from iPhone before quitting the Apple board and reporting the ideas back to Google who would implement most of them into the recently purchased Android framework.

He's quite right to be bitter towards these guys, because they ripped off his ideas. There's no denying that. And before someone brings up Xerox, don't forget that Xerox had a GUI but no idea what to do with it, no plans for it, nothing. It was Steve who seen it in action and seen the future of home computing and done the hard part assembling the team to make it a home user experience. And then along came Gates and ripped it off.

Yes. That devil Bill Gates who dared to bring the graphical user interface to the masses - and at an affordable price for everybody! This demon from Redmond who dared to license his software to all hardware manufacturers across the globe! What was he thinking? How could he not envision the world as a better place with everybody using expensive Apple hardware and Apple software!

Back to reality. If Steve Jobs hadn't had such a huge ego, the entire world would be using Mac OS since 1984. The only thing he needed to do back then was to LICENSE that piece of software like Microsoft did it with DOS and later Windows. He made the same mistake with iOS. Instead of bitching about how Android is a "stolen product" (which it clearly is not), he should have licensed iOS to HTC, Samsung, Nokia, Motorola, RIM and whoever else produces smartphones.

Windows and Android only exist because Steve Jobs in his infinite wisdom always refused to play ball with the other kids. When you refuse to cater to the demands of the market, someone else will step in and fill the gap. And when that happens, it's simply pathetic to stand in a corner and whine that others have "stolen" your ideas and your products. You've had your chance and didn't use it. Divide and rule. Or watch somebody else do it for you. When push came to shove, Jobs always preferred to watch and whine and leave the lion-share of the market to the so-called "rip-offs".

No, he doesn't get any sympathy from me for that. I had to wait over 20 years of my life until a "real" Mac finally became affordable for me. In the meantime, Bill Gates and his "rip-off" had always been affordable for me and his products had created a market in which I could make my living. Even though I am typing this on a gorgeous 27" iMac i5, guess who had more positive impact on my life. Thus far, Apple has only cost me money and their products have no direct relevance in my job life while knowing Microsoft's products puts food on my table.

By the iBook copy, then you have a copy on your iPad and iPhone, bam 2 copies for the price of one.
Oops, I forgot with the iBook copy you (me anyway) can get the definition of a word.

When you buy the Kindle edition, you get a copy of the book on ANY device that you own that has a Kindle reader - including the web reader. So you can read the book on the Kindle, the iPhone, the iPad, any Android phone, any Android tablet, your Mac, your PC at work and on any computer that has a web browser. Oops, and yes, the Kindle reader also has a dictionary on board that lets you look up the definition of a word. And unlike Apple, Amazon even has an official return and refund policy for eBooks.

Somehow, the Kindle edition is a MUCH better deal than the iBooks version that only runs on iOS devices...

Got my hardback at B&N today for $26.70 dollars tax included. I wanted the hardback so I could put it in a display case later and let it have a nice spot on my desk. And whats great is I didn't have to pre-order or wait for shipping*Amazon*. Just drove right up and bought a copy.

$34 is really expensive. It's just $2 cheaper than me ordering from Amazon U.S. and have it shipped to Hong Kong in 2 weeks.

Just bought the book on iBooks and then a friend informed me that there's a free PDF eBook of Steve Jobs Biography available - http://goo.gl/WLMYl. The quality is not as good but it's the actual full version!

I've finished chapter 1, 2 and will read some more tonight.

Fullest Portrait of Jobs

The book gives the fullest portrait to date of Jobs, depicting him as flawed but visionary. It also provides tantalising clues to the origins of his outsized personality and the company he created.

This deification is getting ridiculous.

Well said.

I'm so happy the book was released early. It gives all the worshippers plenty of time read it, gush over Steve, and with some luck, get over it so 2012 can be a "Jobs is God" free year.

Like it or not Tim Cook is in charge now.

Let's see if everyone has enough self respect to give this man a chance.

I am really surprised that you label Windows as "at an affordable price for everybody!"

and now if amazon could just let me know that my copy has shipped...

man, wish i could afford an ipad.

Have you considered a Kindle until you can get an iPad?

LTD - funny how he was obsessed with such minutia and deemed that urgent meanwhile there have been gaping holes/deficiencies in a lot of Apple's own software and plenty of hardware issues that went ignored. Surely you can't deny that ;)

He probably won't respond.

Steve Jobs basically had the book be the next surge for Apple momentum. This guy thinks 5 steps ahead of those who think they can stay 5 steps ahead.

I think the book will be an interesting read and I understand why people want to read it. I'll read it too. What I find ridiculous is the media coverage that has been going on for weeks. When a President or Pope John Paul, Mother Teresa etc died, they didn't get this amount of attention. You'd think this guy could walk on water and raise the dead from all the post-mortem publicity he is getting. Never mind the worshiping that goes on here.
