And apple would go broke trying to implement blu ray.
smiley-laughing024.gif

I laughed pretty hard when I read that and then I laughed even harder when I realized you were serious. So lets say apple has 40 billion in cash, and let's just say they would sell 10 million blu ray enabled computers. For your beyond asinine statement to be true the licensing fee for blu ray would have to be around 4 grand per computer. It is amazing I can get a laptop for under 600 bucks with a blu ray dive but putting blu ray drive into a 2 grand laptop would bankrupt a company.

Not really apple may have to pay more than PC makers has what 10% or 15% of the people have Mac computers and other people PC's .Who do you think Sony is going give good deal to first?

And no way apple has 1 billion in cash they are not rich like Microsoft.

Best Buy has laptops with BluRay starting at $700 and refurbs are available starting at $450.

No, Apple has $40 billion in cash.

Does your Dell have an HDMI port, that would be the way to go. Most TVs will not hit true HD resolutions through their VGA (normal monitor) port.

You can't have checked very hard :

Seriously, your argument doesn't start to hold water. Look, you're late to the party by about 5k posts. The licensing costs of Blu-ray per device are nothing. Also, Apple places 4th in the US for computer market share amongst the OEMs, you're saying they can't get a good deal from Sony ? That means only HP, Dell and Acer would get good deals since they are 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively, which again makes no sense. Go read up on stuff.

Also, next time you present an argument, you bear the burden of proof. We don't have to prove you wrong, you have to prove yourself right.

Apple has close to $60 billion in cash reserves. They used $3.9 billion of that cash to buy LCD displays for the iPad which no competitor can even come close to copying (i.e. Xoom - ROFLMAO). What is even funnier BD folks, is that the iPad which lacks BD ( like the rest of the Mac family) is responsible for "cannibalizing PC sales". It looks like people prefer a "working machine" over BD supported PC's. LOL

$3.9 Billion of Apple's Massive Cash Reserves to Go Toward LCD Displays?

Yep, this conclusion can clearly be drawn from the data.

It clearly separates PC's without blu ray from the ones with blu ray and shows without a doubt that the number of PC's shipping with blu ray declined.

Did you even read this highly opinionated, free hosted blog, full of ads that makes the article make no sense in places?

Lines such as "including extended PC lifetimes and the lack of compelling new PC Dell xps m1330 battery Dell d630 battery experiences"

Also who buys a tablet without any video outputs expecting an optical drive and it to be thin.?

Also if you bothered to read the quotes of the analysts you will find they don't place it down to tablets entirely.

It should also of been expected that tablets would eat at the PC market. Tablets are grabbing potential netbook customers, causing customers to put off PC upgrades combined with longer PC hardware useful lifespans. As stated by the analysts

The option for Blu-ray would only hurt Steve's self-esteem. It would benefit those who want it, which is not determined by those who don't want it.

If you look very closely you will notice that the "source" is "Gartner."

Umm, heard of "Gartner?" ROFLMAO

The news of iPad cannibalizing PC sales was also reported on hundreds of news outlets. I will provide you with a few since it seems to be a habit of the pro BD folks here to make blind assertions without factual evidence. I guess the fact that their beloved physical medium is unimportant to the rest of the world has been a hard pill to swallow.

Ahh, I see another blind assertion. Allow me to provide you with yet another link. Don't worry, I enjoy doing the homework of others ( that was sarcasm again). This is a link for the iPad Digital AV Adapter with HD out.

Apple.com would be a reliable source for this product.

wow it looks like they are starting to get more and more blu ray for laptops now.

one laptop saying Blu-ray Disc-enabled DVD±RW/CD-RW drive
Features full read support for next-generation Blu-ray Disc (BD-ROM, BD-R, BD-RE).
or other laptop saying laptop features a DVD±RW/CD-RW drive with Blu-ray support for creating CDs or DVDs and watching high-def movies.
No idea what that means. What is strange some $700 computers have blu ray and some $1000 computers do not and some do ?

But it looks like they are making the switch to blu ray.

Anyone know why less desktops than the laptops with blu ray? Where the laptops seem to be more so getting into it.

They did when Sony was pushing blu ray 2 or 3 years ago there was deal with Sony and the PC makers but the licence fee is too high now .So do not expect PC with blu ray unless it is multimedia brand PC ready and going spend alot of money on PC .

And apple would go broke trying to implement blu ray.

Right, that explains why there are HARDWARE PLAYERS selling for $100 and below?

Yes it was, if you read my other post you would also realise that the decline isn't all attributed to tablet sales alone.

A lot of tech products are irrelevant to the rest of the world. Just take OSX for example. Doesn't mean they are bad products or no good.

The fact that blu ray continues to grow as a format, despite all their insistence that it is "dead" must be a hard pill for anti blu ray people to swallow

Wow - look at all of those unreliable sources from Apple fanboy sites! (FYI - that was sarcasm)

Being someone who has been described as a "sarcastic b***ard" by there boss, I would consider myself reasonably good at spotting sarcasm

I stand corrected, I don't keep up with all the accessories and apps developed for Ipad. Due to not having an Ipad or having an need for one at this moment in time.

But tablets generally don't have optical drives, even ones not aimed at consumers do(I bet your going to go find one now). They just don't need them/adding one would be pointless for the device.

Right, that explains why there are HARDWARE PLAYERS selling for $100 and below?
Did he really comment that they cant afford to put one in a mac? or isnt that he just didnt want the head-ache.
btw Im a big time BD supporter but lately Ive stopped buying and just rented my first BD in months.
has nothing to do with the tech just that lately movies have sucked :p

I still haven't had the need for one either.

What's your point? Is this still about cash? Because none of those are cash balances. The statement above of $60b in cash reserves is a poor implication, but the number is accurate. They have $27b in cash/equivalents as of 12/31/10 (the most recent reporting date), with LT investments of $32b. This data comes from their public filings, they are a publicly traded company, and required to accurately present this data to the world. I pulled it from Yahoo Finance.

If you're going to start talking about financial data, you'd better have some clue what you are talking about, or you'll just appear idiotic. Frankly, from your posts about both computers and Apple financials, it sounds like you read some news once in 1999 and then again in 2009 and think nothing has changed.

I still don't understand why Apple won't give their customers the option. Let the customer pay the royalty if they want a BD drive in their Macbook Pro or Mac Pro.
