i'm on NSFNET.

With pleasure, this conversation went from an interesting sarcastic debate, to genuinely wondering if we live on the same planet.

Same planet, but different timelines....

In 1995, however, the NSF dismantled NSFnet and replaced it with a commercial Internet backbone.

On April 30, 1995, the NSFNET was officially dissolved...

But, fifteen years later Macdrew is still on NSFnet. Interesting, to say the least.

Guys, I think it's clear this guy is just a troll. Stop replying to him.

Plus I think the Walmart he goes to is the ghetto Walmart.. Because all the Walmart's I gone to have a really big selection of Blu-ray it each one have been in good part of town.. Hell two of them where new stores.. It funny is that Walmart still sells CD's too..

Your right this guy is a Troll.. When Blu-ray is not sold in Best Buy, Fry's, Sears, Kmart, Target, Toys r us, Walmart, and the list goes on then Blu-ray will be dead and not be on the market any more.. Until then Blu-ray is as life as we are and will be for a long long long time...

Ah, not sure where you've been for the last 34 years, but that's been Apple's formula when Steve Jobs has run the show. You might want to study Steve's words and actions over the last few decades, this recent interview will get you started on how he thinks.

Why Flash, Floppies and Serial ports are obsolete

What? Our schools are 100% Apple based and have been for decades, so you must live in a very backwards area if that is not the case in your school district.

Nah, BR never took off, wireless took over so Steve is once again ahead of the laggards. After years of promotion, DVDs still far outsell BR, so it's clear that format is the next 8-Track.

Seriously you are just trolling at this point. I find it funny that you registered in 2003, however never really posted much until this thread came along and now are making outrageous statements.

BTW Blu-ray is officially known as BD not BR. If you are going to argue something at least use the right terminology.

IMO, it doesn't matter if 100% or 50% or 10% of people want Blu-ray. If People want it, and Apple doesn't offer it, it's anti-competitive as they are pushing people towards iTunes, and away from BD.

I want to watch my movies on my computer. Apple needs to offer Blu-ray drives in their macs. It's as simple as that.

I was going to reply to him a couple of pages ago but figured I would catch up to the end of the thread first. It's painfully obvious that he is living under a bridge. The outright lies were the first clue. Though he did get quite a few bites with his fishing technique.

Because 1080p video is so ghetto?

I thought blu Ray was a format for enthusiasts only, how can they afford that?

it's because they can't afford the bandwidth, so have to resort to near carrier pigeon data transfer rates. face it, BR sells poorly in areas with fast internet connections.

Nobody cares how Blu-ray is abbreviated, it's a dead end, it's about as useful as knowing what a "choke" is on an old "DVD era" automobile.

I never make outrageous statements, I simply shed light on current topics.

Sorry you just proved yourself wrong..

I live where we have 12Mbps (Comcast) and 18Mbps (At&T U-verse) and Blu-ray sells like hot cakes... Next city over has 25-50Mbps (Surewest) and blu-ray is every where and selling like hot cake there too.. So maybe you should take your trolling butt some where else before you make yourself look even more foolish then you already have...

No, you are incorrect, if Apple sees Blu-ray as a dead end, there is simply no reason they need to provide it for anyone. You can shop somewhere else if you don't like their offerings... that's how competition works.

Why would would want to watch HD video on your computer anyway? Unless you have a 27" iMac, you stream it to your TV, that's what the Apple TV is for... take a look:

Apple TV

That way you can play any content from any source for free.

No, I'm always correct. You forgot to include the time & energy to get that obsolete circle of bits. Where is "blu-ray" selling like hot cakes? Please cite your source. My sister lives in Rocklin, so don't try and lie.

You just don't like modern electronics for some reason.

dont be silly :p

1080p is quite affordable, i think the price has reduced far quicker then what DVDs were at - they are more popular too (given the time to implement etc).

Absolutly, the cost has decreased as they become a mainstream format.

What I was thinking about more is the cost of a HDTV to watch the blu Ray on. The cost of a HDTV is of course coming down also but I still have a hard time seeing it as ghetto. Of course I haven't done any research on this one, but still.

this is **** news for me because i wanted to use the new mini as the ultimate htpc (which it would have been with blu-ray for sure, so steve shove your god-complex right up your greedy arse).

anyway is it possible to buy an external bu-ray drive, plug it into the new mac mini, and rip the movies via makemkv? without downloading windows.

if so, which is the best blu-ray drive on the market?

Rocklin? LMAO a small little town that is a joke, I been there and the stores there sell blu-ray and have a large selection of Blu-ray movies then DVD.. lol

Every where I go in the STATE OF CALIFORNIA, Texas, Florida, Washington State and New York blu-ray sells are great.. I know people that work in retail.. Walmart, Target and Best Buy.. So I know how sells are doing.. Also where your source that says blu-ray is dead and not on the market. Where your sister lives is not a source so stop with the stupid lies. I see no links that back up you lies other then your opinion that does not = real world facts.. Nice try troll...

P.S. links to prove Blu-ray is dead and not on the market. No links meant you are wrong and will keep being wrong... So again you are incorrect once again..

you can easily add a blu-ray drive to your new mac, it will burn discs with toast, but for playing video, the blu-ray market has died out, so the Mac OS will never support playback. you'll need to scrounge around for someone still using windows since blu-ray isn't advanced enough for Macs.

then show us the data... you were the one that claimed blu-ray was still hanging on, not me. the rocklin reference was to your "surewest" reference, please follow along.

blu-ray is 6% of overall dvd sales and seems to be dropping as a percentage.

Blu-ray % of DVD sales

It dosen't really bother me, although it's a shame it won't be included in the future.

It funny that your showing a link for August 2008 and not 2010 LMAO... I guess you better tell all the Movie studios to stop making blu-ray movies of new and old movies then see that blu-ray is dead on the market LOL... If blu-ray was not doing good and was dead the Movie studios would not wasted their time and money in making new and old movies onto blu-ray... You really do not have a clue in what you are talking about and it is making you look like a fool.. LMAO..

blu-ray has died out? have a look around every forum that has something to do with electronics and a part from mac forums, they will say something completely different from what you just said.

Blu-ray is evolving, it WILL take over the market over the next few years, as the blu-ray movies get cheaper and cheaper, most already cost about the same as dvd's now anyway. If you have watched a blu-ray movie you can never go back to something like SD and itunes quality video.

I'm pretty sure that anyone who would want to have itunes hd over blu-ray is wearing apple-tinted glasses.

the day blu-ray dies will have to be the day people have no internet caps and have super high-speed internet to download 50gb files. that day is stil 10+years away.

I'm curious, what are your thoughts on DVD?

(And also, broadband internet. That was "dead" for a long time when it came out. So many more people were using dial up.)

all optical discs are being phased out, that's just the life cycle of tech. sure, you'll still them around, but no more development will be made.

nah, fast internet has rendered optical discs obsolete, you'll see what i'm saying in a few years. :)

I personally think you, steve and many other people on this site are try to see too far into the future, "a few years" ha, most internet providers are actually making a step backwards, instead of releasing unlimited internet broadband, they are starting to put caps on.

not only that but there are many places in this world, even in America and and the uk, that are still on dial up/very low internet speeds. this won't change for 5-10 years, not just 1 or 2.

I don't get apples approach, they could make millions because providing blu-ray support on macs and giving us blu-ray drives in macs, the mac mini with a blu-ray drive would eat up the htpc market.

of course movie studios are going to want to lock you into an obsolete plastic disc, this is their last gasp... but that's not what i'm talking about. all data needs to be free or at a very low cost, so whether you stream it, download it, or torrent it, the apple devices will play it.

so you need to step it up a notch or stop commenting.
