Apple troll is a troll. Why am I not surprised?

Your eyes have to have Apple stickers covering them if you think the Galaxy S's screen is 'pixelated crap'. Have you actually used a Galaxy S (or other large-screen phone, like the HD2) at all? No?

Yes. I put my iPhone 4 next to a Galaxy S and my Retina Display made the Galaxy S pixelated crap.

Anyone that has compared the phones in person can say that. Not to mention there are a bunch of pictures here

http://www.engadget.com/photos/iphone-4-vs-samsung-galaxy-s-display-face-off/#3115588

and when you have them in front of you, it looks just like that.

Not sure why a 4" screen is somehow worse for reading than a 3.5" screen. With the extra real estate you can zoom in without decreasing the number of words displayed (compared to a 3.5" screen).

I don't have to go through the extra steps of zooming in. I can just read it. You have to zoom in. Defeats the purpose of a huge display.

And, um, mind telling us what exactly about Android is 'ugly'?

Are you insinuating that having the option to display the weather on the home screen is an problem with Android? What? It's not like Google is forcing you to have a weather widget on your home screen

Sounds like you're the one who 'has no clue'.

I am wondering why Android users all have a stupid weather widget. Why do you need to look at the temperature outside all the time?

I'll tell you why. They think it looks good. Because other than the 3rd party weather widgets, there is nothing visually appealing about Android.

well one thing that apple would absolutely *have* to do in the next major ios update is change the weather icon so its updated constantly like the calendar icon (updates with day/date). can't be that hard to implement right ? best of both worlds; icon size remains the same and you get the weather at a glance.

It's certainly possible since I have exactally that on my JB IP4. The clock icon is live too. But let's be frank about it, it does nothing for usability. Sure it looks cool and I wouldn't mind it being added, but it hardly something that 'needs' to be added.

smh. do you go around and downplay other phones while showing off your phone as the "greatest phone in the world"?

start being openminded. this is why apple users have a bad name.

oh and BTW, i HAVE both. unlike you, i dont go to stores and fiddle with it and than say i can input my opinion. and oddly enough, the iphone 4 is in my drawer right now while the focus is my primary. its weird, im not having any trouble reading web pages either...

I have both phones sitting in front of me, thank you very much. The Galaxy S's screen looks just fine. So does my HD2's. My 4's screen on the other hand looks small compared to the other two. In terms of crisp-ness, they're just about the same.

I don't have to go through the extra steps of zooming in. I can just read it. You have to zoom in. Defeats the purpose of a huge display.

Go to the New York Time's website (full, not mobile) on your iPhone. Hold it at arm's length. Can you read the text? I can't, and I have 20/20 vision. I don't, coincidentally, have to zoom in on my HD2, since the pixel density is lower. Text looks just as clear though.

You're right. Android looks quite classy while the iPhone looks... bloated and boring.

I am wondering why Android users all have a stupid weather widget. Why do you need to look at the temperature outside all the time?

I'll tell you why. They think it looks good. Because other than the 3rd party weather widgets, there is nothing visually appealing about Android.

I can tell that you've never used an Android phone for an extended period of time.

Try peeling the Apple stickers from your eyes. A whole new world will be revealed to you!

Now you want me to believe you hold your phone at arms length?

Anyway.

I went to the ny times website. I held the phone as I usually would.

I can read everything in the center and even the smaller text on the side.

For example, the one that reads "Debt Plan Ideas Draw Scorn of Liberals and Tea Party" I can clearly read without ever zooming in. I can also read the menu on the side.

I don't have Apple glasses.

You like Android. I like Apple. I like iPhone4.

You're saying if I don't see it your way I'm wrong.

I like what I like. I have my pinion. You don't agree.

The end. No need to keep telling me you don't agree. I don't care what some dude in a forum thinks.

And if you think the Galaxy S and the iPhome 4's screen are about the same you really need to get your eyes checked.

Anyway. You don't need to keep defending your love for samsung. Anyone here can go to a samsung shop. Take their iphone4 and compare for themselves. There is no contest. The iPhone 4's retina display is obviously better.

I love how you think simple icons on a screen is bloated but widgets throwing crap in your face and animated backgrounds is not bloated.

:D

It looks cheap and cheesy.

I hate Samsung. Their hardware sucks. I'm not defending it. I won't be buying another samsung product again.

What really irritates me is how you insinuate that the Galaxy S's screen looks like 'pixelated crap'. An NES connected to an old skool TV looks

I usually hold my phone about a two feet away from my eyes. I suppose if I squashed the phone on my nose I would be able tp read all the text. But I'd also go blind. How do you hold your phone?

Yes, I think that the loud colors and bloated homescreen on the iPhone is worse than the soft colors and effects (transparency, etc) really make that screenshot look better than the iPhone's screencap. I personally use the Glasklart HD theme on my iPhone. Much better than the standard theme.

The retina display is not 'way better' despite what you supposedly perceive (they way you describe the S's screen, it sounds like you've never seen it at all). Slightly better, yes.

Not sure how a clock widget 'throws crap into your face'. You really have to stop implying that the option to have widgets is somehow bad. If you love boring icons and icons only on your screen, you can do that on Android too.

If you'll take a glance at the top of my post, you'll notice that I am in fact posting from my iPhone- ie I'm not blindly posting crap like you seem to be.

It's all about personal choice. Get what works for you. I'm not an Android fan, but I'm glad they're making strides. It pushes Apple and others to be more innovative; or at the very least add some new features to future releases.

Competition is good. Saying one sucks and the other is awesome is purely opinion. I'd never own a Nissan Cube, but some love the look of it...this is no different.

Ok. Let me try this again

I have seen the galaxy s in person. Just because I disagree with you doesn't make me wrong.

You seem to think your opinion is the only valid one.

Believe it or not, there are people on this planet earth that just happen to think the retina display is miles better than the galaxy s.

Believe it or not, there are people who like iOS. Like the 14.1 million people who bought an iPhone 4 in the last 4 months even though there are android phones in the world.

Yes. We exist. This is just MY opinion of the displays, OS and handsets.

It is different than yours.

Too bad so sad.

Can you move on now? Or will you lose sleep over the fact I have a different opinion than yours.

You sure think very highly of yourself.

Anyway. You just confirmed the fact you're nearly blind.

I'cve never seen a normal person read something on a phone while holding it 2 FEET away from their eyes.

You're either joking or you have no idea what 2 FEET are. Thats 24 inches away from your face. Are you kidding?

So, according to you( the expert whose opinion is the only valid one) people either hold their pines 2 feet , yes 2 FEET :D away from them OR next to their nose.

I see.

:D

Get back to your medication and get your eyes checked.

Yo sure think very highly of yourself.

Says the person who thinks that iPhone>anything else in the world  Perhaps you shouldn't post things like 'throws crap into your face' and 'retina is obviously better'. You seem to be saying those opinions as facts. So why can't I post my opinions as if they are facts?

Believe me, this is not how I normally post. You can go thru all my posts to confirm this fact. Going through your posts, however, you seem to have a personal vendetta (excellent phrase ipodlover77 :) ) against anybody who thinks that the iPhone isn't the best object in the world.

EDIT: Ah, I see you've gone through your post and cleaned up your grammar. Still a work-in-progress, but we're getting there.
Measured the distance with a ruler- approximately 1 foot away from my eyes. As you can see I'm not the best with measuring distances. Sorry.
If I were nearly blind, I would not have 20/20 vision. Try again.
Mind telling me how close you hold your phone to your face?

Gosh, you sound like you're whining now. Don't cry. I'm sorry. I was completely wrong not to agree with you.

You have serious issues or you are addicted to forums.

So now it's 1 foot. I thought it was 2 feet?

According to you I hold it up against my nose.

But we now know how good you are with measurements. So :D

I guess youre equally good at judging distances as you are judging screen quality.

So, now we know how to value your opinion

As I said, people can just go to the Samsung store and see for themselves that I am right. Retina Display is clearly better than Galaxy S. Hands down. For some people, that doesnt matter much when buying the phone.

If you don't think so, then go get one and be happy. It's just a stupid phone.

As for iOS vs Android, that's just a silly argument. You get what appeals to you. IOS appeals to me. You get what you think is best for you.

I came from a Desire to an iPhone 4 and my personal view is that the AMOLED screen is better in some circumstances and worse in others, but the difference in resolution is negligible in normal use.

There's nothing "magical" about a retina display - it's just a high resolution screen that has a slightly higher resolution (960x640) than the Desire and other similar phones (800x480), but at normal viewing distances, I don't see how anyone can describe a screen of 800x480 as "pixellated crap" - it's crystal clear. Maybe not quite as clear as the iPhone screen (due to the lower res), but certainly not crap.

One thing I preferred about the AMOLED screen was the absolute blacks you get, and the lack of a backlight: I use my phone as a bedside clock and the AMOLED screen is far, far superior to the iPhone screen for that use (with the iPhone, the backlight throws a fair amount of light into the room no matter how low you turn the brightness down)

However, the AMOLED screen is pretty useless outdoors in anything approaching bright daylight (I think the Super AMOLED is supposed to overcome some of that problem)

Personally, I'd be happy with either type of screen in my phone but if pushed would probably prefer the iPhone screen for it's better visibility outdoors and improved viewing angles.

Order: Super AMOLED (galaxy s), iPhone 4 , iPhone 3Gs

Some folks really have no clue what they are talking about

and even though you may have a HUGE 4" display Super Duper AMOLED, it does you absolutely no good when reading, which is what I do mostly.

Galaxy S vs iPhone 4. Even though the iPhone 4 is a smaller screen, you can read the text without zooming in. What is the point of a bigger screen if I have to constantly zoom in?

I'll stick with my iPhone 4... Thanks.

When I browse my screen, it catches the eye of everyone who has seen my iPhone 4. It's the first thing they mention. A WOW, followed by "Man that is really clear".

All the visually appealing UI doesn't make it more usable. Using Windows Phone 7 is a pain in the ass. No multitasking. and Android is just plain ugly.

iOS 4.1 on an iPhone 4 just looks polished and so easy to use. Everything is right there. It doesn't require the brain to think to perform any task. Just looking at the screens one can see that Android is basicaly one disjointed disorganized multi-brand phone mess

iphone-4-vs-android.jpg

Inbox. Again. iOS requires no thinking. It's natural. WP7 makes your brain think "What the hell am I looking at?", and Android is just trying to copy iOS

WP7-vs-iPhone-vs-Android-email.jpg

again, Android is ugly as hell. I am not a fan of widgets, but even if I was, I just can't get past the ugly icons. It looks a real mess.

and what is it with Android people and weather widgets? Do you REALLY need to be constantly looking at the temperature outside on your screen? Come on.

You sir, make an excellent point.

Thanks for such an awesome informative reply.

iPhone 4 is clearly superior out of the rest.

I fail to see how the Retina Display is 'hands down' better than the Galaxy S's screen. Without figures/etc you simply cannot state this as a fact. What you can say however is that that is your opinion. I believe you were the one telling me not to state my opinions as facts a few posts ago

I believe that this thread is about IPS vs (S)AMOLED. Not Android vs iOS. You were the one who dragged it off-topic.

Back on topic now, I guess.

Considering the highlighting of spelling and grammar as a valid argument is a real sign of desperation.

To be honest, having seen both side by side, I have to say the iP4s screen is much nicer.

Now in terms of UI, well, I really don't see it as "dated." I think people see it as getting long in the tooth only because it's been around awhile, but from a design standpoint it's pretty solid. That said, it also seems like many competitors have a very... similar set up for home screens. Android breaks up the rows of icons with widgets, but other than that and WP7 they all pretty much look the same as an iPhone.

Now you want me to believe you hold your phone at arms length?

blah blah blah

I do because I don't see things well when they're too close. Whatever the rest of your post was about was lost at the insult.

"dumm" ..... uh huh. Because they like a large bright screen even though they might see some pixels .... that makes 'em "dumm?" Frankly, while I really enjoy the iPhone 4, the quality/resolution of the screen is totally meaningless to me. I could care less if it had half the resolution it has. Things that small (photos, games etc) really don't make that much difference on a screen that size. It's all Apple hype. I'll take a 4"+ screen any day over the 3.6 with 1/2 the resolution and I'd be happy if I had the option on an IOS device. I guess I'm just dumb.

lol at the "quality/resolution of the screen" being "totally meaningless" to you.

Thats just about the most asinine thing I've ever heard. Why would you pay as much as you might for an iPhone if these sorts of things are meaningless to you?

The retina display is a game changer, plain and simple. I remember the first day I used it after 2 years of iPhone 3G usage and let me tell you, it makes a difference. A huge one. If you want to throw your money away thats fine but most of us care about what we get when we're paying thousands of dollars over the course of the contract to use it.

- It's not really a game changer, just a screen with slightly more pixels then your average Android phone. As His Steveness himself said, the human eye can't discern pixels past a certain resolution, so some of your dear little pixels are completely pointless because we can't tell the difference anyway.

- It made a difference because your iPhone 3G had less than half the pixels of even the most pedestrian Android phones. It's a "game changer" in the same sense that a Droid's screen is.

If you want to throw your money away thats fine but most of us care about what we get when we're paying thousands of dollars over the course of the contract to use it.

A lecture on the value of money from an iPhone 4 fanboy. Comedy gold!

P.S. Generally, it's a good idea to check whether you make even an ounce of sense before denouncing others as "asinine".

Clearly a forum troll.

I am in a forum not writing a thesis. Should I put a comma there? Nah

Oh. I forgot the period in that last one. Get that for me will you?

Fact is that for me, when looking at both in person side by side, retina display beats the super Amoled.

Others may agree or not. I really don't care. Just wondering why you care so much.

Get a girlfriend. Turn off the computer.

I came from a Desire to an iPhone 4 and my personal view is that the AMOLED screen is better in some circumstances and worse in others, but the difference in resolution is negligible in normal use.

The super Amoled and the galaxy s are nice. Sure. But the phone is the same price as the iPhone 4.

Just looking at the Phone icon at the bottom that android tries so hard to copy from iOS, the pixels in the Super Amoled were clearly visible to me. Althogh the screen was very bright, my iPhone 4 screen looked much better in comparison. Looking at the same icon in both phones the iPhone 4's pixels completely disappear. My screen looks to be of a much higher quality.

That's why I say it's pixelated crap. Because they're selling it to me for the same price even though mine is clearly better.

Again, anyone can just go to the store and compare for themselves.

And a coworker just bought a desire. Tried to compare it with my iPhone 4.

Poor thing. :D
