what the hell are you smoking, man?
You must not be very far in the game at all, the music is brilliant. And as far as SM64, this rivals it, if not beats it (I'm 30 stars in). You start to forget about what you CAN'T do from SM64, and really enjoy what you CAN do in this new world. I just love long-jumping into orbit around the planets... a lot... maybe too much.:(

I'm at 20 stars so a 1/3 of the way through the game (well to beat it, not unlock them all) and the music, a few cool remixes aside, I don't find all that good. Most songs I just kind of ignore but a few actually annoy me. That and Mario's damn voice  It sounds different than it used to...

Mario is one of those "untouchable" games like Zelda, and Halo, or even the Wii itself, you say one bad thing and people whine about it.

and i finally got to hold it in my hands (thanks to local store who always breaks the street day ;) ) .. just went through the dramatic intro...

The music is amazing, spectacular, awesome, any other word you can think of...
BUT...

Sometimes it doesn't really feel...Mario. It feels like it would be more at home in a game like Zelda at times. It's not as punchy and energetic. The game as a whole feels a lot more relaxed...like the sleepy music in the central ship area, or how Mario gives a little relaxed sigh after getting a star and returning instead of his usual "Whoo-hoo!"

I dunno, from an audio perspective, the game has clearly very high production values and talent behind it, but it just seems less energetic and less fitting of Mario.

I really want to get my hands on that OST and put it on my iPod though.

I'm at 21 stars right now. Oh, and the music in Sweet Sweet Galaxy is just plain awesome :D

I remember first hearing the (thanks to the interview for the name) Egg Planet song and thought it was possibly one of the greatest game songs I've heard. I've heard other tracks on Youtube and the Wiicast, but nothing has come close to that. Think it's mostly down to it sounding oddly familiar to something I used to like/play/watch when I was a kid... If I could marry a game it would be TF2, if I could marry a song it would be that.
;)

The sun is setting now. By the time it rises I'll be well on my way to getting Galaxy.

I could not see a game clock:(

There are 5 save slots:)

I have play for about 8 hours and i have 49 stars.....:(:(

Forgive me for asking a silly question most likely, but what is the clock on the file selection screen for? It isn't a game clock because sometimes it is lower than it was before. I also don't think it's a clock telling the time but i could be wrong.

It gives you the date and time of the last time you played.

I've got excellent self control, but technically it counts as research and therefore it's important to play ;) (I'm not joking either! Even the concept of Mario Galaxy had me make a 24 hour game - Vertix)

Overall the game is wonderful. The music is nice. However, whoever created the ray surfing stage did a poor job on the controls.

I have no self control :p

I just finished the story mode part with 60 stars. The ending was completely epic, not to mention the boss fight! The music for the last stage was insane! This has to be GAME OF THE YEAR!!!!!

if you were around my parts, you would think the release date was tomorrow, the toysrus just got them today...man, when i tell you florida is always last for everything.

how long is the 25 buck gift card offer going until? okay, just found out it was saturday, and the greedy toysrus closest to me won't even sell it until sunday for non preorders and another one about 45 minutes away sold out (sounds like they got it earlier than today).

looks like it's off to target for me.

They ticked me off because their shipment didn't come in until yesterday. I thought they were going to jip me on the gift card, but all worked out, but probably because I pre-ordered it.

I was tempted to pick it up from Frys and other places I saw it in stock the first day they left me hanging because their shipment didn't come in.

I live on South Beach, in Miami Beach, and I walked into a best buy on tuesday around noon, and they had PLENTY of copy's.

try the sticks. it's like the last place to get anything good. i heard there were no copies of it anywhere near here on tuesday, and yesterday was hit or miss.

This could very well be the best game I have ever played.

Everything is spectacular. GOTY for sure, there's just nothing wrong with it. The only fault is the story but it doesn't set out to tell a magnificent story, sorta like GOW. I'm at 9 stars. If it keeps this pace up then wow. Found it quite difficult too! Hardest Mario beginning I've played for sure.

It's actually fun just being player 2 as well. I've been helping my sister through her first 6 stars and it wasn't boring in the slightest. Probably looked like them Wii gametest people who smile and laugh a lot. So many oohs and ahhs.

edit: (some more loving) the music is so triumphant and uplifting, melodies are stuck in my head like it's the early 90's again. The graphics are buttery smooth. Sounds? All oddly in sync with the game, matching the game. This is pure addiction. It's everything that made Mario an icon, with such refined gameplay and responsive controls. I'm looking at this thinking where can the series go next?
Although... I'm missing the "cave" levels already. A shame that the intro is so needlessly long winded. Mario 64 threw you straight into it. But the shame lies with Nintendo having to do this sort of thing to satisfy the people who want cinematics. For shaaaame.

I am not a Wii owner yet but I have been reading about SMG.

Can someone explain the controls please? I can’t seem to find anywhere on the internet that tells how you control Mario. You use the nun chuck right?
Do you think Wii will ever have a controller for lazy people that like to sit on the couch and play the games? Sometime I just want to sit and not have to swing my arm to make Link use his sword.

Sorry for dumb questions. I just need to know.

You use the nunchuck to control mario, the Z key on the nunchuck makes mario duck. Forget what the other button does.

On the normal wii-mote, the A key makes mario jump and to make Mario do his spin attack you flick the wii-mote. You don't have to swing it (you don't on zelda either) you just flick it. You can also point at the screen to grab objects.

You use the joystick to control Mario, A button jumps, Z crouches, C centers camera, B button shoots wherever you're pointing on the screen, and you wiggle the controller to spin.

So you do point the Wii remote at the screen and shake it sometimes, but there's not a lot of motion.

So far I've clocked in 12 hours give or take a few minutes and I have gotten 72 stars.

Ruddy nora. Must be big then! It's been on for about 6 hours now and I have 22 stars, my sister has 9 and my mum has 1.

Bowsers boss music is, frankly, incredible. See Nintendo! Orchestras are good!
