Not everyone lives in a town where there is a store to line up at. I don't so I've never considered it. I wonder what the numbers are.. more of the fanatic fans live in Apple Store towns or not. It's at least a 3 hour drive for me. Doesn't sound like stores are going to have them until closer to the end of the year anyway. I'm really curious what the future holds for availability.

I'm afraid that you are actually dead serious when you say this.

It's a phone

Will your life cease functioning for a week if you don't have this device?

This! I'm on the fence with the "8" anyways, if I don't get a preorder in, thats fine by me. If I do, happy to wait however long it takes to get to me.

Hmm, we've got two Apple Stores practically next to each other (Glendale Galleria and Americana, ~600 ft apart?). I've never been to either on launch day although I've seen the lines snaking around at the Galleria once when I needed to get something from Macy's. I think that might have been iPad Air/mini 2 launch. There's like a mini-park by Apple Store Americana so if ever I'm gonna line up, that seems like a nice place to do it. I dunno, though. I just don't think it's worth it to expend that much effort. :p

Edit, apparently 150ft.

Looking at another post, I saw that someone who preordered minutes after the announcement got their phone after 1 week. People, this means that if you preorder, you will get your phone possibly 7 days later than the person who lines up! With all the leaks and rumors... people seriously aren't considering lining up?

Preorder folks get their devices the same day that the iPhones go on sale at the stores.

Key word "YOUR"
What's it to you what somebody chooses to do with their time?
Just don't understand the negativity and judgements.
Does it make you feel superior to deem how one chooses to acquires a device bad if it's not in lockstep with your ideal?

Simple No reason

#1. You either stay up overnight and do a PreOrder or
#2. You don't get one until 2018

There will be no Camping out. There will be No buying them in store.

I agree. That is exactly the route I plan to take. If it hasn't been done already this would be an interesting poll question.

Those early waiting in line days were fun, no? :D

To actually wait in line like that, it would have to be. All sorts of people were doing it. I remember a celebrity cut in line once, which got everyone snickering. No one came right out and said "You suck Bateman" or anything. Although it was implied. Pretty funny.

Last year, I waited overnight at a nearby Apple Store. I get to the front of the line after 13 hours in line, only to be told all of the 7+ in all carriers and colors were sold out. Needless to say, I wasn't happy and I'll never waste my time like that again. It's just not worth it.

There wasn't a "local" Apple store here until 2-3 years ago. There were Apple resellers though and if I'm not mistaken, they are ALL now GONE. The "metro" area I live in has just over 1 million people too. Not small or rural, by any means (not LA, Chicago, etc either, of course).

Before that, the closest was about an hour drive away and the next closest after that was over 1-1/2 hours away.

Does it make you feel superior to question my opinion ? That's all it is, my opinion. I don't care what that poster does with their time nor will I even think I can tell them what to do (or talk them out of it) but I still think it's silly. Their life will go on, with or without this new phone model. They don't have it now and we can presume they're "okay".

If i cannot make preorder delivery as i want then i will ready night solo trip at 3AM at Apple Store.:)

I want to do the preorder online and then just wait patiently. But then part of me want to hold off to see if T-Mobile will have promotion on old iPhone trade in peogram toward the new 8. So many unknowns right now to lean either way.

What phones the stores will have on Day 1...I'd wager that better than half of those people who are lining-up...are either scalpers, paid by them, or the opportunistic...and whose primary motive is sell them for profit.

If you want to join that crowd...be my guest.

I'm not buying a new phone this year and if I were, it would be online. And yes, probably a sizable wait is likely.

No surprise on that.

I’ve preordered all of my iPhones. Can’t understand why anyone would sleep outside in front of an apple store just to get it a week early.

No fair LOL

Last time - I walked into a local Verizon store on day 1 and walked out with a new phone - it had more memory than I thought I wanted but they had several. I would suspect several similar stores have phones and people tend not to think of them

My local Apple store had zero 7+ models on launch day. Not a drop. So you can line up, but that doesn’t mean you are getting a phone even if you are first.

I camped out for the 6 and had an absolute blast. Met some cool people, had a good time, and got my Space Gray 6 on day one. I'd definitely camp out again, but I don't know if I'll camp out this year. Due to some personal stuff I'll be headed out of the country for a couple years (I leave in a couple months) and so I don't have much of a reason to buy a new $1000 phone if I have to turn around and sell it a month later. Still, if a friend or family member wanted it on day one, I'd camp out and get it for them (provided they pay, of course) since I do enjoy camping out.

Any idea Best Buy will have some new iPhones on launch day? I still need to use my BB gift card.

I never buy bestbuy ...

1- they never treat customer polite like apple
2- they have low stock
3- they have limit stock that save for preorder backorder
4- they are same as >>> ATT

Last year i saw couple people working at ATT store on my area waiting inline on launch day
, customer dont know them though they are magic can get an iphone for them but the true thing are
they same like anybody else:D

Why would you have to sell it a few months later? You think Apple phones aren't used overseas?

Hey guys need your opionion.I usually pre order through Verizon but this year my friend actually works at a corporate Verizon store and says that he can order it for me and my chances on getting it on release day will be better.Any suggestions on which way I should go.

I love hearing stories about the iPhone lines. A few years ago, a guy with the first iPhone dropped it during a TV interview. I heard people sleep in parking garages for the 6S/6S+ in 2015. You would lose a lot of time and/or money waiting in a line for a phone.

My opinion is you can order through carrier, I find the process to much quicker, even though it's easy through Apple as well. Offering through a carrier will explain your terms and conditions better as well.
