Years ago I stood in line for the first couple of iPhones. It was a bit of a novelty. Fun seeing people you knew in line. The iPhone used to be an exciting and innovative product.

Nowadays I have more important things to attend to. Gotta business and have to keep working so I can continue to afford Apple products.

Besides it's a phone!

The 6 plus and 7 plus I bought came after the hoopla died down. I just walked into a store and bought it. Heck the 7 plus I bought came in the mail. No fuss no mess.

Anyone whose been buying iPhones since the start of time would know that difference between the previous years and last.

https://www.cnbc.com/2016/09/16/no-...ecause-people-learned-about-the-internet.html

Which still doesn't prove the point from you recently stating there is a difference in saying 'there were no lines' versus 'lines weren't like the previous years.' I think you're making this more difficult than it needs to be. Just re-read your original Post.

Looking at another post, I saw that someone who preordered minutes after the announcement got their phone after 1 week. People, this means that if you preorder, you will get your phone possibly 7 days later than the person who lines up! With all the leaks and rumors... people seriously aren't considering lining up?

I've been an apple user since way before Apple went mainstream, and i've never waited on line or camped out for an apple product. I don't see the point. I just order it online, and when it comes it comes. Or i just wait until the lines die down and then walk into an Apple store and buy it. Camping out for an electronic device just to be the first to own one never sat right with me. Same reason i use Amazon now for all my christmas gifts. Click click done. No muss no fuss. I dunno. Seeing people knock each other over on black Friday to get into a store first to buy a flat screen tv always repulses me. I dont need anything THAT bad.

For me, it’s not at all about being the first to own it. It’s a simple matter of “I want this item in my hands as soon as possible.” I have no intention of even telling anyone that I bought an iPhone 8.

Nope. Back in the days of 2-year contracts with subsidies, I wanted it day 1 if possible (or month 1 at least). I didn't want to give AT&T free money in terms of unused subsidies (~$20/mo per upgrade eligible line) if the device ended up heavily backordered.

Without that consideration, I don't mind the wait as much.

I primarily agree. But I think for some, it's not about having an item in your hands first. It's more the sport or sense of participating in something that draws a lot of attention similarly to Black Friday or an iPhone Apple pre-order line up. l Think some want to be part of the frenzy because 'everyone else is doing it.'

Back in the days of having to stand in line for a new iPhone, I enjoyed the social aspects of it. I may have had a family member with me, or I might have struck up a conversation with one or two of the line-waiters next to me. And who could forget the free snacks and drinks handed out by the Apple store employees? :)

As the question states... if iPhone 8 is all of what you feel it will be... will you be lining up outside the Apple Store to get one given supply will be limited? If so, have you lined up before for other phones or will it be your first time?

Simple No reason

#1. You either stay up overnight and do a PreOrder or
#2. You don't get one until 2018

There will be no Camping out. There will be No buying them in store.

This is why I did it once.

The one and only time I've ever lined up for something was back in 2008 to get a Nintendo Wii. My local Best Buy was getting 25 of them and I was the 18th person in line, arriving about an hour before the store opened. The manager came out a few minutes late, accompanied by two very large bouncers, handed out 25 tickets to the first 25 people in line and told the rest to go home.

I'm most certainly not camping out to get a phone, as it's already ridiculous that I'll be waking up in the middle of the night to place my 3 a.m. preorder. As I've mentioned elsewhere, it's not the end of the world if I don't get the phone on release date. If my delivery date is a couple of weeks after the release date, I'm fine with that.

I'd agree with that, I think for some it's the thrill of the chase. I can't stand crowds any more. Guess I'm too old, too grumpy, and have to pee too often to be able to wait in line for pretty much anything nowadays! Lol.

Yeah there can definitely be a social aspect to the waiting in line. Though I never waited in line for a phone, I've waited for concert tickets and I'd have to say you really had to be careful about the "snacks" being passed around in those lines.

I’ll consider lining up if my online preorder fails to deliver a good shipping date.

So much is up in the air though; we don’t know how constrained it is compared to previous years, or anything about the pre-order or launch day processes. Hopefully the Keynote sheds some light on the matter.

It’s going to be a crazy 3 weeks!

You nailed it. I'm older, grumpier, and have to pee far too often!

This time of year is always hectic. I expect we should have an idea of what to expect how everything will be set up once Apple announces the prices and carriers have the advantage to prepare.

Even though I’ve been in the Apple Upgrade Program for the last two years (with AT&T), preordering/reserving the iPhone 8 isn’t an option for me because my carrier is T-Mobile (switched a few months ago) and T-Mobile customers don’t have the option to preorder/reserve. So, in order to get the phone on launch day, I’ve basically gotta be one of the first people in line.

I’ve got nothing better to do, so I guess I’ll take a shot and try to wait in line. I stay up all night anyway, so it’s not a huge deal. Still sucks that I can’t reserve an iPhone through the upgrade program like the other carriers can.

I am wondering if Apple will only offer 'carrier specific' models at launch. Meaning you can only get GSM phone for AT&T and TMobile and CDMA for Verizon. Even though CDMA model will work for all.
Qualcomm vs Intel modem.

I won't even touch the new iPhone on opening day. I've learned to wait a couple weeks or a month to hear what early adopters have to say.

Hell no, I'll just set my alarm clock for 2:55am (east coast) and use the Apple app. I paid cash for my 256gb 7plus, so I can use that line to upgrade on Verizon but through Apple. My wife is up for replacement of her 7 so after I order mine I'll see if I can get a 2nd one to sell and subsidize the first one. I doubt it though, I'll bet the ip8's sell out in the first 3 or 4 minutes easily.

I would not line up. Then again, if it was a sure thing I would get it a month earlier I might.

I'm afraid that you are actually dead serious when you say this.

It's a phone

Will your life cease functioning for a week if you don't have this device?

It's just a phone. Relax. You're managing to exist without it right now, aren't you? Most people would rather wait several days going on with their lives as normal, than spend several hours standing in a line instead of going to work, school, or enjoying their free time.
