huh?

Where was this supposed survey taken? NYC? SanFran? Other than those two places, I bet the rest of us get pretty good service. I'm certainly not switching away from ATT. I had VZ once upon a time, and while their coverage was pretty good, they could never get the billing right, and they charged for every damn little thing.

I get great coverage on ATT, and it's faster than VZ, and I can talk and surf at the same time. And while I haven't had the need for it yet, I can actually use my phone overseas. The bill I get from ATT is also accurate 99% of the time. The few times it's been off, ATT has been very good about getting it corrected. I have had a good experience on ATT, better than both of my previous carriers, so I don't know what the complaining is all about.

All I can say is - good riddance. The grass is always greener...

I do hope that those so eager to make the switch realize that in 5 months or less there could very well be an iPhone upgrade and they'll be locked into their current phone without being able to upgrade early.

Less drain on ATT after they leave too....

Somewhere I started a thread which will no doubt contain all the complaints from people who switched... I'll have to find it and see how we all did predicting the "issues"

I have been able to watch movies from Netflix when on 3G.. But it dose not work every where the same way.. Some places in town work find where other places it lags or stops for a little bit then start playing again making hard to watch.. So it a hit and miss when playing movies from Netfilx on 3G..

I've had other people tell me they can do this. Yet my experience has not been good. Still for my purposes, I'm usually in wifi and only on 3G when driving.

I know bringing this up sounds like someone trying to bash ATT. But I'm just trying to gauge my experience so far.

This is great news to me, as one of the other 74% of US iPhone owners. My service is great, will only get better, and probably more aggressively priced.

1.7-4.7% dropped call rates?
(snip)
Is that what it is like on US networks all the time?

Not on Verizon. I can count the number of dropped calls over ten years with half of one hand.

And in parts of the country, even ATT is pretty solid.

Not "parts". The overwhelming majority.

And that the point.. You have to keep a charger around where I can go all day without needing to charge.. The whole point of a PORTABLE PHONE is to be portable not plugged it all the time just so you can use Voice and data..

P.S. in stand of just caring a phone you also have to care around a charger.. The last time I checked I was caring a phone around not a laptop....

First, the iphone charges pretty quickly. Your assertion you gotta keep it plugged in all day is wrong. More like a 15-30 minute recharge in the afternoon while you're doing something else.

Second there a hundred other reasons besides simultaneous voice and data usage why people would drain their battery before the day is over that applies to both GSM and CDMA phones
- using GPS regularly
- playing a lot of games
- doing a lot of syncs
- using your phone to browse the web regularly
- using your phone to download regularly
- traveling a lot

Which makes your argument that CDMA not having simultaneous/voice data is better because it makes the battery last longer and you don't have to carry around an extra charger kinda frivolous.

Happy with AT&T

I've been with AT&T since before they bought out Cingular Wireless.
I've always been happy with my service and my wife and I have upgraded with every new iPhone and have always been more than satisfied! (that's what she said)
I rarely ever get dropped calls and have never had any issues with the so called antenna problem. Costumer service with AT&T has always been top notch, they've always helped me out. And I use voice and data at the same time frequently because of my business.
As far as my area goes, I'll stick with AT&T. This is good all around though for everyone because (A)More bandwidth for me and (B)Price Wars!!

I'll stay with AT&T... Coverage isn't that bad overall where I am... I've had very few dropped calls.

Ditto. Can't remember the last time I had a dropped call. ATT Service in the Boston area is excelent. No reason to switch. I had Verizon a few year ago and I wasn't all that pleased with it. Expensive, poor/rude customer service, lame proprietary addons like Vcast and such.

Not sure why so many are ok with folks moving to verizon. If 26% of AT&T leave, wouldn't that mean less revenue and therefore less for AT&T to use for technology upgrades and service? Not sure they are thinking this through.

Did ATT tell you that? I just got them to reinstate my unlimited plan after I downgraded last May.

Yes, chatted with customer service on-line tonight. Unbelievable.

Only 26%? I was hoping it would be more then that ;)
Come on people switch over, free up the network and bandwidth speeds for me:D

I rarely ever have a dropped call but with all those people leaving ATT won't it improve download/upload speeds for those of us who stay?

No one will ever know until the actuals come in, I really doubt 26% are going to pay a penalty to get over to Verizon. Studies and surveys like these are notoriously unreliable and there released for the shock value. Personally I think its BS!

i saw another article that said 16% would leave att.. either way. go ahead more room for those who stay

i TOTALLY agree - i live in RI and NEVER had a drop call.. oh wait i think once literally.. i know this can vary but att customer service (on fone and local store ) has always been very good.

Plus i a REALLY looking forward to the upcoming price/feature war between Atnt and Verizon.

Me too :).

I have no plans on switching but I hope Verizon can offer enough competition/good pricing to encourage AT&T to add more perks or better prices (ok, price wise I probably have it made cause I'm pretty sure my voice plan is no longer offered. It's not many minutes but me and my roommate hardly use any so we don't need it and it's cheap).

Basically, I hope to benefit from this through AT&T needing to do stuff to keep customers :).

If nothing else, if AT&T can't keep up and Verizon offers a really good deal, it means I have a choice when my contract runs out and maybe can get a better deal if I decide to switch, even if AT&T decides not to offer anything.

Hey if that many people switch to Verizon, maybe the prices for used GSM iPhones will drop and I can finally pick one up cheap, unlock it and put it on T-Mobile. :)

Just hype

This whole Verizon bull **** is getting annoying. I have been on ATT for a very long time and never had any real issue. I live in Texas and I know for a fact in the south and mid west ATT is 100% better than Verizon. More coverage, more reliable and much faster. I went on a road trip to Breckenridge Colorado with 8 other people this past summer, and while most of us were on ATT, we had 1 on verizon and 1 on tmobile. Through all the mountains and plains, ATT was the only one with service for most of the trip. While it may not always be 3G, at least you can use your phone. For the 11 hour trip, verizon had service for right at about 8 hours of the trip. While ATT only lost signal completely once going through a tunnel in a mountain. So while im using my phone on the EDGE and GSM service in the middle of no where, my friend on verizon was just sitting there, pissed off and wanting to be on att (an apple/att hater before this trip). Also anywhere he had 3G signal so did I. Always. Period.

So if you SERIOUSLY are thinking about switching from ATT to Verizon, just remember that this is all media hype. A bunch of jealousy over ATT and the iPhone has caused every venue possible to try and take down ATT. But the reality is that ATT has no real problems from ANYONE I know in the south or midwest. YES drop calls happen, they happen on every service, on my iPhone 4 I have now had a few dropped calls. big deal. verizon also drops calls. its cell phones, always have and always will drop calls.

**I have heard bad things about New York from a few friends, but I am willing to assume that is becuase New York is a 100% overpopulated place, making any service with alot of users suck.

Just my take on this whole hype fest of the verizon iPhone. Happy for Verizon users finally get a taste of real technology, but really, att retards are gonna switch over? have fun paying $500 to get out of a contract to downgrade your cell service and speed. And most likely not get anual refreshes for the new iPhone like att does. And of course you can't sell your verizon iphone 3rd party to help pay for the next iphone and make it essentially free.

But I honestly don't care too much. if 10% of ATT's customers leave, which wont really happen once again just hype, then that much better service for me, and ******** for Verizon.

0% Of non-US customers plan on switching to Verizon.

Ain't going anywhere!!

I live in the South East Houston area and I'm glad to say that I really dont have a problem with Att service. There prices could be lower but as far as there service, I don't have a problem. I rarely get dropped calls and I couldnt leave my unlimited data! I have the iPhone 4 but since i am an old customer, I was able to keep that, at least for now!!

Wow, I've heard about how bad AT&T is, but never would have thought that customer satisfaction is THAT low!!

I'm glad I live in the UK and haven't had to deal with AT&T. :)

Yeah it's a good job O2, Vodafone, Orange & T-Mobile are all brilliant isn't it!

Been on Tmo with IP4 sine July '10. Tried ATT, great when it worked; super spotty coverage, dropped calls almost daily (Houston, TX). For half the price, Tmo is slow but she puts out every time. Just wish the next IP4.1 will have that crazy 1700mhz band.

You obviously don't have a clue about wireless technology, because CDMA is far superior as far as voice quality and security goes. Any hacker wannabe can listen to your GSM calls because the security is so poor.

Sorry, you obviously don't have a clue.

Voice quality is different between them. Neither one is far superior, or even consistently better. The codecs are different and both have their strengths and weaknesses. Both also have multiple quality settings carriers can use to trade off between quality and network capacity.

Security is an issue in GSM, there are known weaknesses. But listening to your calls is hardly the project of "any wannabe hacker" - it's still VERY, VERY secure by any normal person's standards. Intercepting GSM calls is not feasible in the real world despite well-publicized weaknesses in the encryption (which I'm SURE is what you're referring to... here's a hint - news headlines like "GSM call hacked with $15, 3 minutes" are great at getting readers, but horrible at telling the truth. Sure, 15 dollars, 3 minutes, the phone number and approximate physical location of the person, a rainbow table [list of millions of possible keys], many hours of engineering work into the sniffer phone that is far from being an off the shelf phone, and a bunch of other stff).

Also, GSM has been largely replaced by UMTS (GSM 3G) which doesn't have the same encryption vulnerability. Which is pretty meaningless unless some VERY skilled, resourceful hackers are targeting you. Compare to how easy it is to bug a landline - anyone can do it, easily.

This is all over-hyped I've had iPhones since the first one with ATT providing service for them all. I've never had any issues. Most of the major cell companies have good service now. Don't buy into the hype.
