I wish there would be something similar in Germany. Not only we pay much higher prices, due the apple policy $=€ there is also nowhere a deal like this :(
This would be a iPad price below 300€.... What a dream...

A useless gimped internet device is still a useless gimped internet device at any price.

A useless hater comment is still a useless hater comment no mater how often it is repeated.
Suggestion:
If you don't want one, don't buy one.Constantly repeating that you don't like it is a huge wast of everyone's time, especially yours.
Grow up,get over yourself and move on.

I suspect the 16 G is going the way of the 4GB iPhone.

Not until flash RAM prices come down -- they are essentially still where they were last spring.

TJX selling iPads is just that. It has nothing to do w/ Apple. This is a mere sales gimmick, not a closeout party. They likely did not buy them direct -- maybe paid closer to retail than wholesale for them.

Apple's inventory system is sophisticated (should go w/o saying but guess it does). Apple doesn't pump out product willy nilly in hopes of a buyer. They calibrate production insuring no more than a 4 week supply is available at any given time. This prevents them from having a product glut when they EOL a product.

Also the current iPad is the current iPad. Even if Apple was going to push iPad 2.0 in Jan, they'd be able to sell through current inventory during the holidays @ full price. No need for a fire sale.

..and just like that the iPad revolution is over. Just like when Home Depot started carrying plasma/lcd tvs about four years ago.

way to kill the brand, apple.

Apparently the lost leader is working. Who would have bet this board would have dedicated 11 pages of comments in discussing TJMax, Marshall's etc. Women make most of the buying decisions in the household regardless of what us guys think. Looks like a great way to get some advertising buzz, and increase store traffic which is what retail is all about.

?

The iPad revolution is about the iPad, tablets, apps, but not snottiness. You must have mistakenly thought you were hot stuff when you swaggered down the street w/ an iPad because it was somehow "elite."

Refurbs

Haven't read all the posts, so forgive me if this has been confirmed already. I called my local Marshall's and spoke with the manager. He won't be getting any but he said the store in Manhattan on 18th St will probably have some and he said "I think they're refurbs."

Didn't sort through the whole thread, but the Peabody and West Peabody MA stores had them yesterday and sold out within the hour. Oh well.

Lol I can't believe there are people who actually think like this ^

I thought Apple killed the brand when they put iPod vending machines in Macy's?

Unless they are clearly labeled as such, then every sale would be illegal.

I got mine right after work yesterday (3:45ish) at TJ MAXX in hartsdale, NY. They are brand new, and warranty went into effect 10/25/2010. TJX corp is not an authorized apple reseller, so MAP does not play into the game. They probably bought a few thousand to drive in traffic into the stores so people would at least possibly by something else even if they don't get an iPad.

Killing the brand is making a successful product more accessible to people who want it?

I am striking out on this deal:

Charlotte's Concord Mill's TJ Maxx - Has them, but are holding them for Black Friday
Marshalls Near My House - Sells the cases, but not iPads

This did prove to me at what price ($399) I would pull the trigger on getting an iPad. Maybe I am cheap?

Thought I might save someone some trouble...called every store in RI and they are either sold out or didn't get any as of their 9:30am opening today.

That's an interesting point. Perhaps this is a way for Apple to test the market for the price point of the iPad.

My understanding is that the iPad, is not selling anywhere near potential, there are plenty in stock everywhere at the $500 price point, while iPhone are still scarce.

This could be some test marketing for a lower price point for iPad.
