Thank you, MacRumors, for alerting us! I will be extra vigilant looking for messages from T-Mobile.

Having said that, since they’re informing us, I don’t think this is all that bad. It’s a business after all and they made a crazy promise to never raise our prices. Are we going to keep the same price for 40 years? :) I will certainly try! But can you blame a business for trying to make money?
The point is that they are going about it in an underhanded way.

I dumped Verizon and went to T-Mobile last year because they increased the prices on all of their older plans in an attempt to get people to upgrade. T-Mobile seemed like a good deal at the time but now I’m questioning that.
I had Verizon before the iPhone and got sick of them nickle and diming me. The last straw was when they decided to change my year contract for a data hotspot in the middle of the contract (thus nullifying it) because they wanted to stop my corporate discount.

AT&T had growing pains with the iPhone but service wasn't bad. They went nuclear on the TV thing and kept raising prices for plans after. When they stopped having carrier subsidized contracts and offered no discount I switched to their prepaid, with terrible customer service and realized in Northern Maine I had no service but my friend on postpaid AT&T did. Plus in reading it seems AT&T is more susceptible to SIM swap attacks, but that may be internet lore. Their prepaid service wasn't that bad though for my normal day to day use.

I switched to T-Mobile and they were great on price and service. Now they are quickly becoming as bad as the other two, I fully agree. They stopped the discount with credit cards as payment, and prices seem to be going up. I split a 55+ plus plan that was $70 / month with discount. Now it's up to $80 due to no discount. I'm going to call to keep what we have but who knows how long they will allow it before forcing us legacy people off. There is a cheaper plan but taxes and fees aren't included and they dropped Netflix. So dropping to that and paying for Netflix out of pocket would equal about the $70 /month like it was, the only real difference is less data for tethering in a month which isn't a biggie, but still.

The problem is I like postpaid and Verizon and AT&T are both terrible so now T-Mobile is the only option. If I have to I'll drop down to a single plan on their prepaid, because at least it's not Verizon or AT&T. I don't need unlimited data now that I'm not in an office anymore for work so I can go to a less costly plan.

My days of paying $70+ for a single user cell phone plan are long gone, I won't go back. I'd sooner deal without. In general I'm tired of the privacy issues and data scraping, even before this price hike. I toyed with just using a cheap T-Mobile call / text plan and shutting off data on an old iPhone 5 since it's LTE. That way at least I get a music/calendar/camera/texting device that is small, and still have a basic phone. It's really all I need.

FYI, I had a One family plan 4 lines $140 p/m. I switched to the Go5G+ last year for just $5 more p/m. On top of that 3 iPhones 14 with great trade values of $830 each (my old 7+/10/11). The way to do it, is request it through Twitter (X) T-force sales team, they are way better than calling the 611 number. Also ask for promos. Sometimes they will give you a break. It took me a few tries but eventually I've got the deal.

Spectrum operates as a Verizon MVNO
and allows you to add Apple Watch LTE for $10 a month taxes and fees included.
I did a bit of searching and it seems it has to be a postpaid account for attaching an Apple watch since it's a cloned phone number, which yeah, brings you back to the big 3. I'm surprised Spectrum can do this (unless, is a Spectrum account postpaid?)

That sounds a lot like raising the price...
Yeah, nothing more fun than corporate double-speak.

I’m expecting they will also try the shrinkflation method: "We are not raising the price of any of your plans; we are moving you to a newer plan with fewer benefits at the same cost,"

**** T-Mobile.

I "switched" to google fi a while ago - admittedly they also use T-Mobile... but at least they're getting less money from me now! They offer better prices, the exact same service, and uh... I mean, honestly, google fi gives me way better deals on samsung & google phones than t-mobile did for anything (as a 'grandfathered plan' customer anyway lol).

The Apple Watch issue was one of the last things that prevented me ditching the big 3. Spectrum is setup as postpaid even though it’s an MVNO.
Might want to check them out if you want Apple Watch yet want to get away from the big 3. I was surprised as well that I could bring my Apple watch and everything has been flawless since switching. I got one whole year of free cell phone service and 3 months free Watch service as well for coming back to them for home internet plus a $19.99 rate lock for 2 years.

Yes it's a **** show.. Been with TMobile since 2012 (Simple Choice Unlimited) and just had them place the "SC Migration OptOut' feature code in my account.

Call 611, and if the rep doesn't know how, ask to speak with a supervisor .. Shouldn't take more than 2 minutes to be done.

Verify by logging into your account - manage add ons - scroll down and look for " SC Migration OptOut" listed and checked.

I would reconfirm (logging into the account) and via phone or chat (preferably chat so I can screen shot and save should they goof up) after the 17th as well.

All said, I'll be looking to take my personal and business lines elsewhere..

So now the differences between any of the Big Telecom outfits are being reduced to pretty much zero. My favorite Verizon gimmick is their support rep telling you, when you start a new plan, that after the fixed term, they can raise the price (which they inevitably will, because it’s always a “promotional” price), but they never have to inform you of that before it happens. So you get an inflated bill when that happens, and you’re stuck with it for at least one month even if you drop down to a cheaper plan — and with the first month of the new plan comes a bill with a hefty “service charge” for the change of plan. Can’t imagine why Americans hate Big Telecom almost as much as Congress.

The actual F?

They literally were pushing "we'll never increase the price of your plan!" like 3 months ago when I signed up. Which knowing corporate greed is obviously BS and this is blatant BS.

We're not changing the price of your plan, you see. We are forcing you to a different plan. Which is a different price because it's a different plan, and that price just *happens* to be way higher. Weird coincedence to be honest with you. So your old plan that we promised wouldn't go up in price, actually didn't you see.
I read that they’ll be giving out Halloween trick or treat buckets on October 24th with the T-Mobile Tuesdays app. Maybe they could add a shovel so we can deal with their BS a little better.

1. AT&T forcing customers to pay with debit card or checking account otherwise the "discount" is reduced by $5 per line.
2. T-Mobile doing this shady crap to their customers.
Is Verizon any better?

-edit-
I know every single carrier is doing #1.
No need to keep quoting...
It was a rhetorical question.
I think Verizon requires a debit or checking account. It makes sense though, because they’re passing the savings of credit card transaction fees to the customer. Same conception as the Target Red Card (is that still a thing?).

I’ve lost my affinity for T-Mobile. They’ve become textbook for why less competition is bad for consumers. I think MVNO’s are the best choice now.

Say what you want about AT&T, they have never pulled this. I was on the original iPhone plan for a long time, and only moved when I finally chose to move to a plan that better fit with a new phone and changed usage. There are ways to encourage people to move to a new plan (like new features or support), or they could just up the charges because it costs more to operate their network (a justifiable reason, presuming it's true). This looks like an attempt to disguise a price increase with a plan change forced on users, with a difficult way for them to keep their current plan.

I didn't look to see if there's a benefit to the new plans, but it's pretty bad optics to force people to change just because they want to move them to different plans....it's going to piss people off more than if they just raised the prices for everyone $5. Would be interesting to see how many people they drive away with this ploy.
They definitely pushed customers that were grandfathered into the original unlimited plan to a new plan. Using the same manipulation tactics. Trying to confuse the customer into thinking they are getting a better deal losing their unlimited plan.

Learned a long time ago to stay as far away from T-Mobile as possible. This is not shocking in the slightest and it's not even close to the top of the list of shady underhanded BS they do.
I am in Europe so different things are done in the US I suppose, but the core mentality of insulting the user is the same.

Do those new and improved plans come with more or less of T-Mobile's infamous semi-annual data leaks? :p

Still double the $5 a month charge for our Apple Watch now with T-Mobile. $10 is a really bad deal.

Upgraded my phone at a T-Mobile retail store. First she tried to tell me I was trading in an older model phone that it really was. Then, tried to claim there was no trade in deal going on (which I knew there was). Finally, sneakily tried to slip the iPhone 14 into the checkout process instead of the 15 I had clearly asked for. Luckily I saw the box she put in the bag and I recognized it. Then tried to convince me to buy it from the website which would only "take a couple days" (the website showed all stock on backorder for weeks). The whole time being disrespectful and arrogant.

If you aren't upgrading your plan or activating a new line, Tmobile does not want to deal with you. She was visibly upset that she was losing a phone that she needs in stock to sell to people who are activating a new line. Tmobile is the worst.
