Haven't gotten anything on my iPhone 4 6.1.2 either OTA in settings > general > about or in iTunes.

I'm jailbroken and on 6.1.2, not sure if you have to be on 6.1.3 and unjailbroken or not... can anyone comment?

Unjailbroken and 6.1.3 is necessary.

Pretty sure apple is going to take all the old A1428 iPhones back to the their "Factory" and enable 1700MHz on them.

Also I feel apple isnt doing anything about this until it gets hit with a class action lawsuit (which I have a feeling some people will at least give it a try - would be the only fair way to go as they should have just added the support...I mean Samsung, HTC n other manufacturers have been doing it for a long time...they didnt need to be told - the reason it hurts more for the iPhone 5 is because apple is basically replacing it with their "Improved" one.) as they most probably don't want to look stupid for not allowing 1700MHz (AWS) Support for 3G...I think people would have put apple in the spotlight if all of a sudden they started selling a iPhone 5 with 1700MHz 3G Support without saying something along the lines of "it is enabled on hardware at the factory" etc.

Believe it or not turning it on after the fact is an accounting thing, well used to be. Same thing happened years ago with early Core 2 Duo machines that had Wireless N hardware but software that did not officially get "turned on" until an enabler was released for a couple of bucks, or you updated to SL which included it. I believe it was SL, or maybe Leopard, whichever one. I could be wrong but this was the reason back then, and may still exist today as the reason. Had more to do with business/corporate laws than them not wanting to enable it.

Sure. The hardware is the same but the firmware on the chip is obviously different. Apparently the firmware is not able to be updated with a software update. Otherwise Apple wouldn't spend resources on updating their entire supply chain with the new version.

Yeh most likely.

Also a side note. I have the 6.1.2 Official Unlocked iPhone 5, jailbroken, and I am thinking that the reason I am not getting the update over OTA is because I have the LTE Hack from Cydia and maybe the OTA checks for ios version and or if i already am connected to 4G or not. I personally dont want to go thru the hassle of uninstalling it and then trying this, any volunteers?

Read my post, post #98, on the 4th page.

Ota release date

I spoke to a TMO rep earlier who says the update won't come out until next Friday 12th.

That is unlikely. Even their own support site says it is coming today. They would already have the new iPhones setup with this carrier bundle. Forcing 2 million customers with this upgrade the same day of the official release is asking to take down their system.

It will be interesting to see differences among 1900MHz 4G, LTE, and AWS1700 HSPA+. I am ready!

I'm reluctant to update given this:

"Personal Hotspot Settings (Smartphone Mobile Hotspot)"

I currently have the $70/month plan, unlimited 4G, and use personal hotspot. Get much use out of it with my WiFi-only iPad Mini.

Anyone know if T-Mobile offers personal hotspot (additional cost) with the $70/month plan? If not, I'll have to go down to the 2.5GB 4G plan. *sigh*

I noticed it auto configures personal hotspot settings, which is probably a nice way of saying it restricts them unless you buy a plan with that feature. Right now, I get poor network quality but free tethering with my t-mobile SIM. If I install the carrier update, I'll have better network quality but no tethering (unless I pay more).

I'll almost certainly install the update because my network connection to T-mobile's network is terrible to the point of unusable 75% of the time, but wanted others to be aware.

I had the same hypothesis as well. Let me know if it's true if you decide to update.

Can you CONFIRM you have to be on the LATEST iOS version? T-Mobile said 6.1.x, not 6.1.3.

The latest carrier bundle format requires 6.1.x. And even if you are jailbroken and don't get the carrier bundle update, you can update it through itunes. The carrier bundle will be easily accessible.

They give you 500MB of hotspot free. 2GB for 10/month. Or 4GB for 20/month.

Clarification: This is for the unlimited ($70/month) plan.
